We should be asking the question about Logan Austin.

I think he is a very good player and he is only going to get better. He would be a lock at Full Back. The Saints traded him in last season from the Power but still has limited opportunities.

Happy for trade of Garlett for pick 50 as well. Pick-anything actually

The debate there will be about how much of his salary we need to pay.

Amazing drop in form.

Hopefully in this case he was front ended and his contract next year is for $2.50

Yep got Gold Coast written all over him.

The old “our team sucks so let’s fix it by filling up our list with every other club’s rejects” strategy. I’ve seen a few clubs attempt this (Pagan era Carlton, Voss era Brisbane, Neeld era Melbourne) and I’ve never seen any result other than complete disaster.

Garlett’s more likely to go to a club that can afford a punt I reckon. I think it’s more likely that his career is over.

I think his fall from grace is more of an attitude thing than his ability to play the game. He kicked 5 in the win against Brisbane in round 2.

He played a very good game against Brisbane.

He has dropped away quickly.  The same thing happened at Carlton before he came to us.

For those potting Garlett, check your stats on small forwards scoring 40+ goals in a season... Jeff has done it 5 times!

People aren’t potting, they are asking some questions, just like the footy dept did this season. He has answered those questions with a resounding “I can’t play the way you want me to”.

When he is on, he is my favourite Dee, he hasn’t been on for sometime.

Will he do it again at our club? That is the million dollar question.

He has personal issues that have stuffed his football.

I don't think many need a history lesson.  I prefer to live in the here and now.

In the last quarter for Casey in the GF he squibbed a marking attempt.  It was pea-hearted.  He had 5 disposals for the game.  It was Casey's biggest game of the year.

He's finished.

So what can we get for Kent? A fourth rounder seems unders.

Respect is such a difficult concept for some!

I don't think it's a question of respect re: Garlett.  I think it's a matter of fact.

I'll always have respect for what Garlett has done for the club - he come to us at the crossroads of his career and turned things around.  He has provided us with plenty of highlights and bags of goals.  He, like Daniel Cross and Bernie Vince, came to us when we needed some experience and class and he generally delivered it on a consistent basis in his first few seasons with us.

However, it's pretty clear that the expectations that Goodwin has for players is something he is struggling to reach.  That's not being disrespectful to him, that's just fact.  If he was doing all the right things then I dare say he would have been playing ahead of someone like Spargo.  But, his performances for Casey haven't been great and I think his time as an AFL player may be coming to an end.  I wish that wasn't the case, but I think it's pretty evident that he isn't the same player he once was.

Bugg gone, Kent going and if Spargo gets the 2nd year blues, we still need a back up crumber. Having someone that has kicked 40 plus goals isn't a bad plan B assuming the $ are in line

Maybe Port or back to WA ?   Or to Crows to replace Betts ?

Garlett hasn't lost his speed, with Bugg, Kent and possibly AVB going out i think we need him for our depth in the forward line. He could have a really strong pre-season, and play 11 good games for us

why only 11??

I see him as a depth player, so when we have a full team he will probably be in the VFL. But we will inevitably have some injuries, and in those cases he would be a good back-up pressure fwd. However, he may recapture his best form as well, and be a best 22 player again. But i think a good depth player is more realistic.

Throw away line, but someone will definitely take him.

I have a feeling we will find another small forward this year, from another team. ??? gut-feeling.

I wonder if we can get Lonie with pick 50ish, or a swap. Seems out of favour with Richo but showed glimpses of his scintillating crumbing when played.

I mean, with the pick 50'ish we get with Kent. If list space available and we have not recruited any small forwards

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
