Petracca in a rut?

Trac's core strength was great today. He has good hands at ground level and is able to stand up in or break tackles helping our forward momentum. 

I still think he could be in for a big finals series. Could be his coming of age.

There is also the ones we dont see, where he does the linking small handballs in close and doesn't show well on TV or live, however he is there. He gets the ball out and he is really strong to stand up in tackles. 

When his kicks pay off, its huge, a goal every time.

Give him time it is all building, he has all the required tools for an explosive half forward. The coaches need to instruct him to kick for goal when he gets the ball inside 50m in traffic and not look to pass off. I know he is trying to do the right thing but his little dinky passes trying to thread a needle fail most times. Just back yourself and kick it mate. I have faith that he could explode in the finals run.

The comparisons to Sylvia are laughable,as he has done so much more in his young short career than Sylvia could ever had hoped for,

He will also get better and better with maturity.

He is building quite nicely! Anyone who thinks his work rate isn’t up to scratch is kidding themselves. His effort and second efforts were there in spades today. We all want him to break out, maybe finals time is where it happens.

If your post on Frost was a cut shot to the boundary, you’ve just smashed this one down gully’s throat. I’m not sure what standard you are measuring Petracca against but he is travelling just fine.

I though he would have been much more harshly without the goals.  Overall, he was not clean.  He made bad decisions (the easy miss).  He has so much upside.

I actually don't mind at all where Petracca is at. I hope he gets it all together for a final but the way he's going about things is really good.

He's deliberately trying to share the ball instead of being the hero. That's good. One day he'll be the hero and that will be great but he's doing the team thing to get there.

He's been very careful on his set shots. Routine. Not blasting. It will come.

He's working very hard on his defensive running which we all know isn't a strong suit. What is a strong suit in his the way he can impact defensively when he does get to a contest and he's very good there. He closes distance so easily it forces mistakes and panic and he's very good at teasing distance when zoning off a player.

We could play him in the  midfield and ask him to hunt the ball and he'd have 25 a week but we've got others to do that. Gus and Clarry get free reign to do go after the ball and are inconsistently defensively.

We could play him as a designated full forward or even as the go to guy at CHF and he'd get more of the glory doing that as well, but we've got a forward line with a lot of variety.

It's not always pretty but I see a player being developed, through the ups an downs.

Only sometimes. Sure, he had that horrible telegraphed short kick when he should have had a shot. However, on the other side of the coin was the disgusting rushed snap when he had multiple options.

Although there was a fair bit to like, there was also a lot not to like. However, I feel like he could be a game-changer if he could put together a complete game. Frustrating player in that his potential seems to be far greater than his output, and does some stupid things, so I get the Sylvia references.

He's got the tools to be a game changer, but he's not there... yet. He had a good game today, but it could've been a lot better if not for a some poor decisions and missed shots.

He definitely needs to work on his set shots as a starting point. He's dangerous up forward due to his great marking ability and strength to stand up in tackles and dish off to teammates. He needs to be able to finish off his good work, because he is working hard to get involved, often without reward. It will come with maturity and experience.

Hopefully he puts it together on the big stage! Definite x-factor and weapon in September!

I never said he wasn't. I just have very high standards for Trac. He's the one I always thought would be the best of the Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca trio.

Oliver's gonna be the best player in history so I'll concede that one but I'm very harsh on Petracca only because I think he's very very talented but is not very smart in his ball use.

I watched him during one passage of play in the third where the Giants were running the ball out of the backline. He chased from the pocket, narrowly missed a tackle on the wing, persisted and tackled on the back flank in front of the members and turned the ball over. 

He's putting in the hard yards, played a great game today. I especially liked the tic-taccing with TMac, giving each other goals. Selfless, scintillating football.

I did notice that he sometimes jabs at shirt passes a bit and some don’t reach their target, but from what I saw of today’s game he appeared much more confident and part of the team attack.

His set shots and decision making from a mark in general needs work, but as a whole he bloody good and his field kicking has been excellent.

He's not actually awful. He's just fricken frustrating. Ever since his first game we all could see what he was capable of. He's so far off that it's not funny. The fact that 50% of his max (which is what I think he's at right now) is serviceable is a tribute to how good he could be.

No, starting point is 'increased intensity', and get to much more contests wide.  He did this today (intensity), and it really showed... and helped us.

He's was getting in.... and getting to.... Re the wider contests, not just those near the middle.  His game influence jumper 60%,  in my books.

 

X factor he is capable of, but not what we're looking for...  its only a 'sugar icing',,,  for occasions.

 

Its a big work-rate that is what we really need,,, and this is where he improved this afternoon.   And helped us to smash the Giants, around the contests.

This and other efforts were the difference, in his desire and his intensity...  a much bigger game commitment and effort.
