We now have a real winger for the G. Welcome Ed, the frustration of 2019 is starting to ease.

I wonder how that decision gets made? Do you reckon it means we’re backing ourselves to finish higher than the Hawks, or am I reading too much into it?

good point...

looking at it objectively you would think the two possibilities are absolutely line ball.

I suppose you could say it's the equivalent of the club backing itself which excites some supporters but PR aside it's strange.

Could also just be that Freo thinks we will finish lower than the Hawks. In all honesty I think us and the Hawks will be fighting for similar spots in and around the bottom part of/just outside the 8. It will likely end up being the difference between pick 29 and 31

cannot understand why we needed to drop four places in the second round this year.

Marginal negotiation skills demonstrated again given we had the PSD card.

Still better than giving away this years second that so many here were happy with

We have given away a hopefully lower pick, in a worse draft next year, for dropping 4 spots on 22 this year in a stronger draft and got our man.

That is great negotiating!

Not in this trade. I posted a few days ago that he would be reasonable with us and he certainly was. He can't be criticized in this trade as we have done extremely well.

I don't care what he does with the Saints or anyone else, he was good with us this time.

Hope everyone on the list is ready to run next year, Langdon will be burning past our players and making them look second rate if they don't. Great get and that 2-way running power will be enormous on the 'G

Wasn’t meaning with our trade specifically Red but just in general.

Another great deal! We move down 4 spots in the 2nd round but also snag Langdon also and still having a future 2nd round.

This is why you don't go early on the one Frost trade.

I think we still have a few things to do pick wise and have a feeling we are after 2 top 15 picks.

That is why we didn't want the late picks this year.

Agree, but the usual suspects couldn't help themselves on the Frost thread.

Welcome Langers, now all you need is a hair cut.

Couldn’t be happier with the way the club is going about this trade period so far.

Absolutely ecstatic to have Langdon on board.

Damn this club!!! They are sucking me back in again as usual!

The probability of the player we like being taken between 22 and 26 and there not being another player of similar ilk that we like being available is a million to one. That part of the trade isn’t even the cream on top, it’s the puff of air that comes out of the can after the cream. It’s zero cost.

not if you have effectively been out of the pointy end of the draft for X years and desperately need to top up your quality youngsters.

But perhaps we just negotiate differently

then why do it ??

Today's wrap:

Upgrading a NQR defender who is borderline best 22 when everyone is fit, and who constantly breaks team rules and structures but is exciting, for a top 5-10 player who is only 23 and fills a specific need, for the equivalent cost of ~pick 52.

Today was a win.

Not really correct.

As it stands over the whole trade period, we're down approx. 400 points, which is about pick 40.

Great result on this.  Would have got done regardless of the Hawthorn second rounder but we don't lose much.  Possibly the Bell factor and the fact the Dockers are probably eyeing the draft a little more than us coming in to play.

Ed a solid acquisition and starts to bed down the bigger grounds somewhat.

Now for either a big bodied KF/or mobile medium plus a  genuine pressure small (Butler?).

Then nab Dylan Stephens at the draft and we are looking in alot better shape.

Welcome to the Dee's Ed Langdon, (went after him and got him) look forward to seeing you running the wings at the "G". Very happy with this pick up, along with Tomlinson of course.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
