Wines Unsure of Contract

Featured Replies

Wines would be huge. Jones won't be around forever, and we don't know how susceptible to injuries Viney is. Outside mids are a dime a dozen, and it seems we have the players to accomodate for this (Fritsch, ANB, harmes etc) obviously not as good as Gaff but if you have that dominant inside midfield, your outside mids instantly become better players. Which is why I'd rather Wines over Gaff any day.

Wines, Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Petracca. Imagine those players choosing from and rotating the likes of Tracc and Oliver up forward to keep the opposition guessing.

The trades required to get this done don't bare thinking about. Particularly given we don't have a 1st round pick this year. It is pure fantasy.

Gaff on the other hand Is just possible since he is a free agent. I also think he adds more for us than another in and under player.

Voss, Black, Akermanis, Lappin, Power, Headland. We are not even close to that.

Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Embley. Or that.

If you swap Wines for Fyfe, Martin or Dangerfield then you might get a seat at the table.

Not this year, but soon, Oliver and Viney would walk into that Lions/eagles midfield. Gawn is better. Brayshaw 2018 has something. Just out of interest i reckon Judd/Cousins>>Voss/Black what do you think? I would have Oliver/Viney close to par with the Brisbane pair.

Viney and Oliver still a long way off. Voss and Black are all time great players imo.

Cousins is soured because of the drugs, but the guy was a legit freak. He legit had everything. Judd was also a freak, but again is probably soured by his injury years at Carlton in which he didn't do much.

If I was Wines I'd be reconsidering Port based on their form. they should be pushing for a flag and are currently out of the 8.  they recruited soft flashy players and their core is getting older.  best chance for him to leave is them not making the 8

Anyone saying we don't need a player like Wines, I just don't get.  He runs all day, has that mental attitude of Viney that you can't get, and is a beast all over the ground. still only young too.

Gus is playing fairly outside and can play half back. Trac up fwd...

I don't think we need Gaff as much as we all thought we did, last year.

Our young mids are starting to grow their engines, and run.

Stretch is running hard and creating, and just needs that breakout game in the seniors.

Hunt likewise needs to learn to adjust his mind.

Viney, Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw are all different to Wines. I think they compliment one another's abilities.

No one is an Oliver.

Certainly Brayshaw is not an Wines. very different.

We could fit Wines in. Petracca plays forward, Brayshaw - if he's not traded to create the room - rotates in from the wing. But he's going to cost 2 first round picks we don't have, plus a mega contract. Gaff fits a need better, is cheaper - both contract and trade - and it's a question if we can even fit him in.

I doubt it.  I think we've got room, but not that much room, unless we let someone like Brayshaw go.

I'm not convinced Wines wants out, though.  Give it a few weeks and he'll have signed a new deal with Port.  Gaff is the one who I think we can pry out of West Coast.

You have my vote WB.

The irony is that it took me about 45 seconds to reply with that link, when it could've taken me 2 seconds to reply with "He's 25"!

May as well close this thread. There is zero chance of this happening.

He’s not a free agent, and we don’t have anything to trade with. We have no first round pick this year, and we are not allowed to trade our first round pick for next year.

Unless we’re willing to trade Oliver, Hogan or Petracca, then trading in Wines is impossible.

they are GOAT contenders for sure, but our two i disagree about being a long way off, viney just as hard and making himself better by dedication just like Voss. 2019 barring curses etc, they will be very close.

Notwithstanding the drugs that pair together were incredible, I don't count his injuries against him, was more a conversation about the peak that they reached. Judd's decision making combined with speed, were phenomenal. I used to be so dirty he didnt come to Melbourne but looking back at that period of the club you have to say he was right.

Image result for can't we have both of them

We have no picks as currency and I'm not willing to part with a comparable player.

Gaff is a free agent at the end of this season - have a red-hot crack at him this year.

Let Wines sign on to PA for another two years, then at the end of that contract, he's a free agent - have a crack then.

They owe us one for Jimmy Toumpas though.

I suspect there is more chance of Jack Watts & Jack Trengove both being at the MFC next year than there is of Ollie Wines coming to the club.

Nice to dream about, but there is no way to make it happen.

Spot on with"flash/soft players.

Wonder wat wines thinks of these inclusions.

Gaff adds outside run while Wines is another in and under. I'll take whoever is cheaper thanks.

Also if we need cap room isn't Vince and Pedo on their last legs? Also Jeffy isn't going to want to sit in the reserves, maybe a trade to Freo. (We can say it's Jesse Hogan and do a no return to sender)

:roos:

Did I do it right? I went looking for a Roos image on the line I could make a crazy eyes gif with but there's only Fitzroy stuff and a few others

He we go again : get GAFF, get GAFF, etc

Surely we have 4 or 5 'spare' players lying around that we could package up for a first round pick, and then put that with some rubbish late picks to get Wines?

Am I doing this right?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
