No you won't Andy, I promise!  Once you've savoured the first, the appetite continues to grow.  I've been lucky enough to see 7 of our 12, and I can't wait to celebrate number 13 (which for the first time I'll be permitted to celebrate with something a bit stronger than lemonade!).

So did you actually see our 1948 premiership win then Deeoldfart?

It’s not too much to ask to see Barrett’s “ Sliding Doors” comment come to fruition is it?

Melbourne

If

you've kicked 69 goals in your past three matches ...

then

we've got you down for 30 at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Bulldogs kicked two goals total in round nine, and none after half-time last week.

LOL!

It looks like 'purple' is the one now drinking our bathwater!!

I don't feel like we'll smash them, Bevo will turn the game into a (groan) dogfight, but we'll come away with the win by 3-5 goals

The win and the tie before it (but I was too young to remember any of it).  Been rusted on ever since.

He’s taking a “scattergun approach” to writing articles.

I like this quote from a st kilda fan over on reddit

"If I've learned anything in the last three weeks, it's "play Melbourne if you wanna get f****d"

This was very true for so many Demons supporters; the taste of victory in succession, every other year, every other game was hypnotic, addictive, unquenchable, greedy, luscious, anticipated and granted by the footballers.

Thought I told you, Tony Tea? With that infection, spluttering stuff all over us mournfully, ain't it time you tried to far cough?

I was 9 months old when we won our last flag. I have been suffering from MFCSS for most of my life. It is an insidious form of self doubting depression. For the coming of a premiership cup may to Demons may be the only form of recovery even if only till the first loss the following year.

I have genuine sympathy for those who are so scarred by our past that they cannot enjoy the beautiful football we are playing at the moment without being pessimistic and feeling the need to remind everyone that it can all fall apart. Enjoy it guys, I've been waiting 31 years for this and am loving every moment of it.

I think a Premiership is the only thing that will do it for me. I see the way we're playing and I know we can beat anyone but I'm so scarred by the past that I can't believe that we can be successful. It's all in my head. We were 60 points up last week and I was still thinking we could lose it despite what was actually happening. I need help.

When Hogan played on and was disallowed a shot at goal at 3 quarter time that would have put us 86 up a tiny voice in my head said "I hope that doesn't cost us"

I think threads like this are better after we've won by 80+.

My father-in-law was an Essendon supporter in 1948, and he still goes on about how Melbourne brought back $%^&*# Jack Mueller to play full-forward and how he kicked 8, 6 and 6 goals in three finals to win the flag for Melbourne.

I think he actually kicked it as well (with a drop punt)

If the players start drinking bath water again then it’s cold showers for them.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
