    I remember this game vividly. I reckon that snap from Lyon went about 150m up (at the time). Everybody celebrating that goal so hard behind me they’re not even watching Wrensteads subsequent shot at goal. Great result en route to the grannie.

    Yeater's shot was from 35ish and pretty much directly in front on the run.  To be fair it was going straight through the goals initially (for the sealer) till the last 10 meters when a hand of god saw it miraculously (for the Dorks) do a 45 degree sharp left turn  (from behind the goals) and go sailing through for a behind (half goal post height!).  I was gob smacked in disbelief at the time.

    People tend to remember the last few minutes (Stynes, Eishold, Yeates), which unfortunately weren't great obviously.  But we forget little things that may also have cost us the match like the late Sean Wight in the 1st quarter (i think) giving off a blatant lifted throw as he was going to ground which i'm pretty sure the Dorks goaled from.  Also the last torp from the square (by Tuck?) was allowed to get out the back (not enough numbers up/back in what was effectively the last play of the day).  Probably a few others during the course of the game etc.

    A small precaution to take him off the track.  Should be right for the weekend.  As it stands today, he'll play on Sunday.

    Sounds promising but I think the next few days will be telling in regards to how his foot feels.

    Big worry with T-mac injury.. depends a lot on if its the foot or the ankle., but we cannot afford to lose this guys for a long period.. he is now one of the most important members of the team, gives us what other teams struggle with and that is legitimate versatility.

    If T Mac doesn't play which is likely given the precautionary attitude they will almost certainly adopt I would play Hogan forward and try to use Pedersen or Smith in Hogan's upfield role.

    IMO Hogan's upfield play has been one of the big pluses this year but until Tom Mac returned we just couldn't kick goals (which is the aim in AFL).

    We struggled to kick them against the Hawks in the wet, and then against the best defence in the league in Richmond.  In our first 3 games we still had 29, 30 and 33 scoring shots, so it wasn't really an issue.  

    The issues was more around our structure.  We went with Hogan and lots of smalls, but now we're essentially playing three rotating talls with Gawn having a rest down there as well.  It works really well and has allowed us to play great footy.

    Tom will be a big loss, but now that we've sorted out the structure of how we play I'm more confident that we have the capacity to cover him for any length of time.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
