My understanding is we left the Gaff poker table some weeks ago. Buy in price way too high.

He won’t be at the Dees next year.

Have we folded though?

Does the Eagles winning the Flag make it more or less likely that Gaff becomes available?

I missed a GF once through injury & have to say it made it easy to walk away the year after due to feeling no emotion to the Premiership....in fact it felt worse than losing 1.Who thinks now that he is more of a chance of jumping ship & who thinks it will push him into staying on at WCE?

I 'm not sure winning the premiership will make much of a change to his decision making.  I think for Gaff it's a question of whether he wants to come home and be near his family (and be very well compensated) or remain at West Coast and be not so handsomely paid (but still on pretty big money). If anything it may free up room in the Eagles TPP due to not having to fork out over the top money to retain Lycett.

An interesting take on it.

I do agree if you weren't on the park you won't have the same bond. Some might suggest that for some that might make the hunger stronger but I'd be inclined to also think , if were I, what are the chances of back to back etc. That's very difficult.

I think you can become a bit of an outsider after this sort of thing

He looked a broken man yesterday. I totally disagree with what he did, but gees hasn’t he paid the ultimate price now!

A part of me suspects he will never be the same again. If North want to throw their dumb chest at him, then so be it.

It goes to show just one minute of madness can be a lifetime of pain.

Or a new start might invigorate.

Now I know this is a less than ideal analogy... it's all a bit like when your better half cheats on you. You don't ever go back to the 'normality' it once was.

No one's cheated on Gaff ..but the others did something he didn't.

If me. I'd leave. Fresh start..head down, bum up...get into it.

If Gaff and looking at lists and prospects ...we leave the Nuff Norfs in the dust. FMD.. .. we're already 2nd fact for flag next year...wtf lol.

Gaff is a mid.. who's midfield would you rather compliment ?

In the post-match commentory on ABC radio, they said he had separated himself from others in the rooms, and was "crying his eyes out".

Apparently Andrew Brayshaw has only just started eating solid foods again. Let’s not forget that.

I do wonder if Gaff can actually make a “new” start within the AFL

Agree. And he would compliment ours perfectly

I will be totally amazed if Gaff stays at West Coast. He would have made his mind up already and he would have announced it ahead of the GF as a morale booster.  His obvious devastation yesterday was because he could have left on the high note of a flag but for his action and suspension.

Will most probably nominate North for megabucks but I suspect we've been right in the discussion for a long time and the Hogan trade may be giving us scope to the offer, there's a chance he comes to us.

Apparently he congratulated the players before telling them he would be playing elsewhere next season.

It was more the commentary around throwing their dumb chest at him... that sounded rather definitive.

Purely speculation on my behalf, but the Hogan/May developments may have also opened up cap space, letting us back into the Gaff conversation.

A hypothetical...nothing more

Before Eagles win Premiership..Gaff just an Eagle..biding his time...do I dont I...  maybe a shltload of money aint a bad thing.

After Eagles win Premiership .. Gaff an outsider in his own neighbourhood now.  Hard to re-bond with existing...was looking to fresh fields anyway....but maybe the lustre of a Cup is shinier now than before.. Option....somewhere just for money..lots... somewhere else where that Window is ajar...still going to get  more than a fist-full of green !! Hmmmmmm

...and just maybe after yesterday winning a premiership takes a precedent over money or the desire to be an inside mid.

It’s a bit like people who believe in God, just because you keep on preaching it, doesn’t mean it’s true.

And I'll keep saying that Gaff's manager (Paul Connors) has said that he'll either stay at West Coast or go to North.

Gaff wants more time playing an inside role and he knows he won't get that at Melbourne.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
