Speculate away.

Can only speculate, as I like most DL’s don’t know what they are doing.

Do you have inside info that we are actually not chasing anyone other than Preuss?

Always enjoy the trading/drafting period, though for the first time in 12 years I am enjoying the finals far more.

He is coming to the Dees! ??

I could almost put my testicles on it...

Dees have been into him for a long time! And his heart beats true for the Red & Blue!

Expect Gaff & Preuss in Dee colours next season!

The pitchforks on here will be coming for your blood if this is proved incorrect..

Me included.

Already moved on from Gaff. Think it's been dead in the water for a while now. I wouldn't be surprised if the reports that he was keen a few weeks ago were true but a lot can change in that time. It would defy a fair bit of logic if he were to come here.

what logic is that?

from the outside there are pros and cons for him to stay, to shift elsewhere, or come to the dee's... all as logical as one another.

The logic of a human being turning down a bumper money offer and the logic of our club having next to nothing to use in a potential trade for him were the two bullet points that came to mind.

@layzie...he doesn't need to be traded for

Some people also like the issue of $ taken off the table... ie: "I want what  I am worth on the market but prepared to take a little less + presumed success "(and that presumed success offsets the extra 100k,200k).

He might be a 'thug' now but I don't think he is a mercenary... ?

Anyway we will find out if @ProDee is accurate or @Grimes Times is, in around 10 days methinks...

Man I'm confused! After checking the definition of free agency you appear to be correct, but if Lever was a restricted free agent why did we have to do a trade? Another question is was he even a restricted free agent at all? If not then that got misreported a fair bit.

I do see what you're saying. He can still get a good money offer from us, I just feel like we will be poles apart in comparison to what North are offering. That's also with no knowledge of our financial capacity mind you, purely hunches.

My info is from the mouth of his manager.

He won't be coming to Melbourne.

Maybe we were never into him?

Lets see what Mahoney and co. have up their sleeves.    Kelly,  Sheil or Whitfield....  one of them will be a Demon.

Good, if North want to pay him 1mil+ per season they are stupid he is a wing man that clubs don't tag and when they do he goes missing, he will improve your side but not to the point where he will have a massive effect on the result.

Would rather save the coin and have a red hot crack at Kelly next season, this guy has super star midfielder written all over him

Connors: "He's (Gaff) totally immersed in West Coast. He takes his time to think about things. He hasn't made his mind up. I can swear on my kid's life that's the case."

Connors: "Gaff's situation is completely different to Lynchy. I won't confirm any of it. Money has no factor. West Coast is a great club."

Haven’t given up hope Hunt could fill that role.

Another pre-season, a bit of re-shaping, some required skills development focussed on a new role and contribution, some earnest MFC FD and supporter patience, their 'one-to-one' determination and continued encouragement, and Hunt might well be the outside runner we need with almost the best pace - and a development of two-sided disposal to complete the picture. I'd honestly reckon that this is all possible having watched him closely for several years now. For me, 2019 is his big, break-out year now that he already knows the game style, the brand (whatever that actually might be) and the need for his revitalising skills in quality delivery the football to his mates. 'Carna Dees!

We were into him, but he doesn't like the proposed role.  With Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, and Harmes playing inside roles there would be little opportunity for him to get his hands dirty in the centre square.

But he may stay at West Coast.  It's West Coast or North.  Fullstop.

As for Shiel, etc. how do we satisfy GWS when we have no decent picks to offer ?

We'll only get a decent player if we can land a free agent.

Moved just a little off Gaff for the Dees, as well. Our internal FD development may better provide a younger, injury-free bullet for the outside, with a revved up Hunt held currently in a developmental abeyance requiring absolute attention and encouragement - perhaps a role for the professor - Jordan Lewis - over the summer break/pre-season 2019.

What tingles in the mind is our chances of securing May and Preuss - both would have multiple roles and impact on our team, to say the least, thinking backline and ruck-forward respectively.

It will be a bit of deja vu if Gaff goes to North to play inside and ends up as a permanent winger.

Howe claimed that he wanted to go to collingwood because they were prepared to play him as a permanent forward, allowing for him to develop some stability and consistency in his game.

Next Minute, Howe hasn't played forward for collingwood in 3 years...

and I hope he was open enough to tell you we weren't prepared to pay what Gaff was asking for.

That particular mouth has needed to be washed out before. :) But sounds like both sides have walked away. If we dont get a free agent we are still holding pretty much a royal flush in players going into next year, ruck withstanding. if Tyson and Kent are traded we are still well in the 2nd and 3rd round of the draft.

I was keen on Gaff but aren’t sure whether bringing in “superstars” on giant money works.  Buddy was a success commercially and individually but for Sydney an overall fail football wise.  Sydney have given up some critical talent the last 5 years.  I actually hope Richmond get Lynch as I think it will weaken their culture and if it does they’ll be mediocre.  I’d rather back JT to draft some elite outside speed via the draft and continue to retain and develop our current list.

I dont doubt your info @ProDee but if Gaff has turned us down because of the role I find that extremely unlikely. He either wants to come to the club because of our current position, MCG, Dees suppport etc etc  and play his role or he wants to come to Vic to the highest bidder. ie north.

Jake telling you hes not coming to the Dess because of the role is IMO another way of saying the moneys not enough  and keeping the perception up that any possible move will not be all about money.

I don't care, mate.

You're welcome to believe what you want.

So, no other posters need to bother telling me that they think he's taking coin.  It's great you think that way.  I don't care.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
