If anyone is looking for a definition of "a very Melbourne thing to do" I think we have a contender.

Yeah and now Oliver will be out with facial fractures for 8-12 months

Isaac Smith ran riot last week against the ‘Aints last week and it was beautiful to watch. It’s time for Jayden Hunt to do the same and take the game on again as we know he can, lots of running bounces - get a step or two outside of the 50 arch and launch for home. Don’t worry about bombing ‘into’ the forward line - just go straight over the top - we know he can do it.

Hunt absolutely needs to step up.  If he lays another egg he will be out of the team next week with Salem and Viney coming back.

I had Brayshaw a couple of years ago on my card and he barely got on the ground with all the concussion issues he had that year.

I’ve since decided it was all my fault and I jinxed him so I go with the generic card these days.

Does anyone know which round our other replacement game is? The magnet fixture you receive with your membership used to have an asterisk next to them, not this years one.

Can you get Dangerfields pic on your next card ?...I would love to see him have the year Brayshaw had.

Wasn't it Carlton as well last year? Is this a strategy for the AFL to pump up Carltons home crowd numbers?

Interesting question and for they would be, they would be trying to pump up all of the lower drawing teams like Carlton.

As an aside Dees currently average the 3rd highest attendance for the year, behind only Pies and Tigs. (From yesterday’s Hun).

Love the excitement Hunt brings but very predictable. No left foot, runs at a 45 degree angle towards boundary and bombs it long. Really needs to tidy this and should be further advanced at this stage.

My views on Goodwin are unaltered.  He is admirably and luckily bluffing his way through.  He is consistent only at inconsistency.  Results this weekend will prove this.    When we lose, its always in the same manner.  Over the top, out the back, Lever and McDonald looking stupid, inept forward entries to outmanned contests, exhausted from attack, and no energy and or structure to defend.  Week in week out.  This suggests he is not learning.  Just occupying, collecting a cheque, satisfying and fulfilling an ego and desire to one day be the coach of an AFL footy side.  Thus, it will be a loss this week and Goodwin, since taking over will have coached us to 16 wins and 16 losses.  In 5 weeks time the Jesse Hogan is returning to WA bandwagon will start rolling.  For make no mistake, if we are not at least two games above .500 in 5 weeks time then it will be obvious to all, pundits, Jackson, Bartlett, the board, that Goodwin is not cut out for it.  So, Goodwin's future head coaching career will be determined  by mid jun.  And so it should be.  He should be very worried.

Hey pink i, you should ring Bomber up and ask for a refund.

Edit:- I went over the top 1st time - sorry

Interchange for me should be Spargo, Fritch, Smith and Garlett/ANB. Toss up between the last two for me. Do not mind either way. Spargo and Fritch stay after performance last week and I would like to see Smith get a run to see what he has got to bring.

I still do not like the look of the team with Vince, Lewis and Jones  there.

So are you thinking they need to drop all 3 or just 1? Is leg speed your issue?

I think leg speed is there issue but I also think they are needed to lead and direct on the ground.

Carlton

Good point. He looks much more dangerous when he runs through/to the middle

This is a huge bugbear of mine.

Classic example last week was when he took that mark over McDonand-Tipungwuti and then tried to run around him and kick the ball into the forward line, but because he ran on this angle to get around McDonand-Tipungwuti he was forced to kick to the pocket.

If he simply went straight back and kicked over the man on the mark he could have kicked the ball to the hot-spot and not to the pocket because he wasn't on an angle.

The fact that he doesn't have a sidestep and can only run in straight lines doesn't help things either.

Y'know, I'd reckon Stan Alves should be contacted to assist both Harmes and Hunt in their quest for sidestepping on the run, in using both feet to kick rapier-like passes to teammates down the field, to engage in that supersonic dash and carry on the outside and to crash through the packs where everyone is waiting for something to happen. He was the Demons' master at all of those things. And then there was the Alves' blind turns...

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
