The setup at Punt Road was farcical yesterday, for the players to get onto the grounds they literally had to walk from the portable setup that is the away rooms, through the crowd and then down a stairway that's the only access point to the whole ground, and thus full of people. There was also from what I could see only one entrance to get in, a nondescript narrow doorway past an indoor area being reconstructed.  And the wooden seats at the fence level were unbelievably uncomfortable, seemingly designed by some sadist who enjoys seeing spectators rub their backs in pain at irregular intervals.

Agree DD... a very strange set up. It also made it hard for spectators to access the arena itself at the breaks.

Also very unimpressed with Punt Road from a spectator viewpoint. Ended up in the old stand which was comfortable but I love the VFL because of the ability to easily stroll around the ground and watch from different vantage points. Absolutely impossible due to access to various parts being denied.

Catering came from one van in a crowded area that further exacerbated the squeeze. Give me Box Hill, Coburg etc any day. Williamstown on a non windy day is also an absolute delight.

I am biased TPF39 , but the problem is he is short and does not make up for that with speed or better than average skill.

I know it is very earlier days but he will not be a regular at senior level. He will be a valuable player at VFL level but that is the tops IMO.

A beautiful day... caught the old train to Williamstown.. fish and chips on the promenade and then to the ground.

Got chatting with some young fellows who played for the Williamstown under 18 comp. They were a pleasure to speak with and it is probably what got me interested in following the Casey VFL team.

Port Melbourne is also worth a  mention for its famous Burra burger alone

I have been there a few times over the years and on every occasion it has been windy, cold and just for good measure showers of rain sweeping the ground. So I will take your word for it.

I have never been to the Port ground, driven past a hundred times but never gone in.

End of next week I am off o/s for five weeks so my match attending will come to a close till after QB game.

However I have to say I  enjoy the VFL games now more than the AFL, so much easier to go and low crowds and you are up close to the game.

I’ve never seen him play live, but I was under the impression that he was quite quick ‘in the mound of Boomer Harvey’... or was that just pre-draft hyperbole??

I have seen the two games he has played in both he was among the best however there are lots of occasions he is just to short to get the better of taller players.

He knows how to get the ball, so he knows were to go and how to get it but gets caught a bit. He is not slow but I would not put him in the top 25% of players for speed on top of that he does not have a penetrating kick, 35 meters with 40 at max.

These are all just  my opinion others will no doubt disagree now I may be being a bit unfair after two games but I do not see a senior level player.

There are always exceptions but IMO if you are short you have to be very good to make it at AFL level and again it is only my opinion but he is not very good.

THE WALL by KC from Casey

At the 15 minute mark of Sunday’s game at the Swinburne Centre against Richmond VFL, the Casey Demons led by 5.1.31 to 0.1.1. By the time the first quarter had come to an end more than 20 minutes later, the lead had been reduced to a mere 11 points and that came on top of a goal on the siren by Lachlan Filipovic. At some time during those last 20 minutes, the Demons had hit the wall because, by the end of the day, they had channelled their senior counterparts from their last game and fell by 35 points.

The result came as no surprise in light of the changes to the team’s make up in the fortnight since its barnstorming opening round 107 point win over Coburg. Back then, there were 18 MFC listed players in the line up with many of them fighting desperately for a place in a Melbourne team that had just beaten North Melbourne for the first time in 18 encounters. Against the Tigers, there were just 12 AFL-listed players in the team with Harley Balic, Jayden Hunt, Joel Smith, Tim Smith, Billy Stretch and Sam Weideman out from the previous week.

The problem was compounded by an injury to Tomas Bugg after he landed awkwardly in a marking contest during the second quarter. The Demons were already a man down after 23rd player Mitch Lewis was concussed early in the game. To make matters worse, the bulk of the Demon listers had poor games and many were unsighted after the first break. 

The exceptions to the rule were Cam Pedersen who continued where he left off in the second half against Werribee and youngster Charlie Spargo who was busy all day and kicked two goals. Pedersen marked strongly and worked hard supporting an otherwise well beaten big man division and his five goals for the day kept the Demons in the hunt until the final quarter. Jay Kennedy Harris, Mitch Hannan and Oskar Baker had their moments but the rest of the AFL brigade were disappointing. 
 
The Demons were well served by their VFL listed players. James Munro and mature aged newcomer Ryan Morrison attacked the ball aggressively, Mitch Gent was solid.

Casey plays its first game at home on Saturday night when it takes on another VFL stand alone, Geelong.
