CHRISTIAN SALEM'S COMMITMENT

Featured Replies

I love seeing things like this. Players working hard to get the best out of themselves! That is what wins you flags, not just talent alone.

Good story.

Hopefully he continues to build on his reasonable start. I would like him to pick the more difficult attacking option at times.

We need players who can hit targets.  I think once he builds some rhythm he will become an important weekly fixture.

Demonland. this is all i get of your posts.

Christian Salem received some honest feedback at his Melbourne exit meeting last year. But rather than dwell on the criticism, he decided to improve.

the last sentence line, I only receive the top half of that line.   The lower half of sentence lettering is cut off.

He has been ok.  Started very well on the weekend then faded.

We need more from him...   if he ever reaches his potential our midfield will go from already scary to plain old unfair.

I think you have the auto edit turned on

Good on Christian for turning things around, but it is a little disappointing that he had to be told these things at year end. It should have been apparent to him throughout the year that he wasn't fit enough and, if not, the coaches should have been all over him about it.

Obviously injury and illness were a factor initially, but he has basically wasted the first four years of his career by just cruising along.

He was very good on Saturday, particularly in the third quarter, so hopefully that level of effort becomes his new normal.

Probably easier to train over summer when you aren't dropping bricks on your head.......

Certainly raised my eyebrows Saturday, with more grunt evident, and generally, harder for longer, in the play more.....

Congrats too him as he plays his 50th on the weekend too.

I’m guessing his win/loss ratio (19/30) will considerably improve over the next 50 games and include a number of finals appearances.

Happy days to be a young Melbourne footballer..

Salem doesn't seem to like North much. Took his angry pills again last week. Looks much better when he's aggressive and has had a few good games against them now. Hopefully he can stay a bit riled.

He played well on the weekend, but games prior to that have been poor. Good to hear he has hired a personal trainer over the summer because he is probably one of our most talented players. If we can get the most out of him it would be a big boost for the rest of the group.

I'm a massive wrap for Salem, but I wouldn't describe his first 3 games as a "fine start to the season". Saturday's game should be his baseline.

why the [censored] does a professional footballer, in todays age, with all the coaches and strength and conditioning guys at there disposal need to hire a [censored] personal trainer to do things outside of the scope that their own conditioning staff have pencilled in for them.

To me it screams either

a. incompetence of our staff to put blokes on the right pathway with the right fitness plans

or

b. complete lack of faith of our staff to deliver whats in a.

or

c. a massive lack of personal drive to accomplish whats been set.

either way i wouldn't be promoting this as a football club to the outside world

Is that right. 50 games to young Salem?

Well done Salo.

What a load of rubbish,  he just wanted someone to push him in the off season.

Many players would do this.  I know for a fact Cale Hooker at Essendon does this.

Sometimes, you don't know what you don't know. I can appreciate from the outside they're the only reasonable options that you can come up with to make sense of it.

All players from all clubs, receive a range of guidance to plug certain gaps at certain times... and none of it speaks to the reasons above.

Umm, the opening/title post in this thread only contains a link to that article... so yes, it was raised already.

Melksham said prior to the game that the North boys sledged a lot when they played Melbourne (and it wasn't like we didn't give them insufficient ammunition).

I think this time at least we hit hard but we didn't go overboard. There were more Nev Jetta on Brown style hits and less Bernie Vince on Ben Cunnington hits (who responded beautifully).

Hearing the same message from the same people day in day does get boring. Multiple players from our club and others work with other people in the off season.

Is there CBA involved as well? Ie the players have a mandatory rest period, are clubs unable to have to much contact in offseason?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
