He said on the radio we had another 6 goal run against us.

It was four.

David king is bias, Geelong have the same problem as us with teams getting huge run on against them, but king said Geelong have no concerns at all.

It’s funny how we’re always the subject of these articles. Yes while we’re guilty of it, most teams across the weekend conceded a barrage of goals in quick time. Teams can’t and don’t play at 100% for 120 minutes, so it’s about minimizing the damage when you’re not at 100%. 

We were better at it this week

I don't think any of us as supporters think we are playing @ our best, yet we were a stray kick away from a 3-0 start to the year. We have some key players to return in Viney and TMac, we have a full list to chose from, and a very large playing contingent @ Casey.

I'm bullish about the season, I think the Hawks this week should be a great test.

Spot on. There are 2 teams on the field. You cant 100% beat the opposition 100% of the game. Doesnt happen.

It's hard not to ignore SEN.  They're the outfit that see David King as an intellectual and Andy Maher as talent.  .

However unlike other finals aspiring teams, we have had a habit over the last 2 years of conceding runs of goals that cost/almost cost us games. We are better at minimising the damage this year, but in each of the 3 games so far we have let our guard down badly for about 20 min. The Bris game would've been lost last year, it was great to see the boys turn it around

We all know of these lapses, so it's not surprising that a cretin like King has final caught up

You are dodging the real issue though. Which you did earlier in the year and so do many other supporters on here.

The next two games are going to be a massive slap in the face for many on here who only choose to look at positives in our game. 

Hawthorn and Richmond will punish us if we have any sort of lapse. Absolutely punish us.

No, it was a 4 goal run. A "run" means consecutive goals.

Either/or. It doesn’t bother me. A 4 goal run and a 5.3 quarter against a bottom dwelling side is worrying. 

The trend continues. Whilst we’re scraping by with wins, the way in which we’re playing isn’t going to knock any half decent side off.

We need to lift our performance significantly if we’re going to beat Hawthorn.

We didn't scrape by, we won by 37 points. After that initial 4 goal run we outscored them by 10 goals.

I'm not saying everything's peachy but some of the negativity on here is crazy.

Well, we have won 9 out of 12 quarters played. In contrast Essendon have won 3 out of 12. Keep that ratio up we can afford the subsequent bad quarters and lapses. We will win far more games than we lose.

Going by the results so far this year it's hard to say who the bottom dwelling sides will be with the exception of perhaps Carlton & even they had a run against the Tiges.

I don't think any of our more astute supporters on this site believe we are playing great footy at the moment but if we stay in the race, work on our game &are  playing our best footy in September that will do me & might even be good enough to win a flag.

I’m still yet to see a team this year really put in a four quarter effort (and completely dominate a game , maybe barring Adelaide over the aints  and rd 1/2 against the dogs) 

I think we still aren’t grasping the fact that this competition is as tight as has ever been, there are no easy wins against bottom sides, games will be subject to reverse momentum swings all the time, sides will hit back (often assisted by umpire momentum) 

this is not the same competition 10 years or so ago where a top 4 team would routinely spank bottom 4 sides by 12+ goals 

yes agree these quarter lapses are something we need to react to much better and to slow down opposition momentum, but for us to consistently expect 4 quarter dominations as being conducive to being a top 4 side , IMO is being slightly unrealistic. We need to win ugly those games when we’re not 100% on where previously we would have lost, and then we need those handful of games where we smash an opponent, we didn’t do the latter last year and % cost us . 

I think people are right to look at us with a bit of skepticism at the moment. 

I'd prefer it to be honest. 

At this stage we have beaten 2 predicted bottom 4 - 6 sides and lost against a team that hasn't won another.

he didn't notice jeelong only got 17 points in the last half against us? talk about being blind

Every team gives up runs, but our problem is that it's either at the start of a game, or after we've establish a big lead. If we kick the first 3, and the opposition kicks the next 6, we're only down by 3 goals. No one bats an eyelid.

If the opposition kicks the first 4-6, it's newsworthy. Or if you're up by 6 goals and have 6 straight kicked on you, it's a problem.

I think that in the modern game, anything under 5 goals is a nothing lead. Atm I don't think it's a major issue. But if we certainly need to lool at closing that gap.

i actually think it is a good sign that we are the #1 scoring side and should have been up 3 zip when you consider

1. we are still making a lot of mistakes

2. we have a number of players who are playing below their best or average

3. no tmac or jv

when we get our shlt together we will be awesome. better to know there is a lot of room for improvement than to think we are playing out of our skin and what you see will be as good as it gets

I think I agree with you dc but I am too scared to say so!

Still plenty of room for improvement, hopefully we can consistently see it over the next four weeks. If so, then it will set our season up beautifully. 

Looking forward to Viney and T.mac getting back to match fitness. Adding T.Mac’s aerobic capacity and marking power to Hogan’s current form could prove to be a nightmare scenario for our opposition.

I'm ok where we're at but there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially with scoring efficiency.

I heard today that an article in one of the papers over the weekend likened MFC to a P-plater behind the wheel of a big V8.  A lot of power in the hands of the relatively young.  Once the power is harnessed and focused we will be a consistent force, but until then, we're also prone to running of the road into a ditch.

I've had that thought too.   You'd be struggling to find another pair in the comp like them.   To have them interchanging between deep forward and hit up targets up the ground would be pretty hard to stop. 

Thier mobility and endurance is suited to the modern game and could be the envy of everyone else.

A 5.3 quarter after a 4 goal start isn't too bad. You can't really count both as negatives. We steadied with a couple of goals and kept the margin in control. 

We need to get it down to a 3 goal run or a 2 goal run against bad teams. 

The issue is we only defend and halt momentum by winning a heap of the footy ourselves. Aside from parking a spare defender the only way we defend and stop runs is by upping the ball winning and attack.

The entire side has to build resilience all over the park - forwards, mids and backs to minimise the oppositions scoring when they are winning their share of the contest.

Then there's the issue of the ugly wasted chances of the 3rd quarter. Some training needed during the week on how to recycle the ball in a crowded 50 to create betting scoring chances than guys randomly hacking at the ball in huge congestion.
