Seriously though, without being called on MFCSS or whatever, this club can't take a trick. Every year we have good players go down, often before the season starts and for extended periods.

As someone said on another thread, last year we lost 168 games of player availability due to injury and 70 to our best 6. How the hell do you win games with those injuries and especially to your key players.

No wonder the Tigers with not an injury and a soft draw, did so wellย in an even competition.

It is also why I regard pre season reports as useless as we are always training the house down and come the first game the injuries are there.

End of rant, Go Dees. Luckily our depth is far deeper.

Well this probably indicates it's not just luck and probably our incompetence, given the Trengove situation.

All player loads and recovery loads are tightly controlled by the fitness / recovery team now DV. ย The Playersย stepping outside and doing their own recovery regime etc isย old school thinking. ย Buck stops with Misson in terms of when/how much/how little/methods etc. ย Coaching staff are very much in the hands of the Elite performance manager's view (and club doctor)ย on all such matters once a significant injury and/orย health issue is diagnosed.

So if the player doesn't mention they are sore in other areas of the foot, and that the limp is only the Plantar F alone?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that like TMac, Viney's issue is with his toe - that is, unrelated to his original foot issue.ย  So for those going on about his facia issue being mis-managed, you may be off the mark.ย  This appears to possibly be an unfortunate coincidence.

Nup Nupย  IMV any foot injury that changes the gait and style of running will put pressure on other parts of the foot.ย

ย I'm giving some opinion from my Phys Ed background but, happy to seek and take advice from others on this site who might know more.

Also, we seem to cop the full brunt of "unfortunate coincidence" is that is what it is!

Remember Tom Mc had operations on both ankles post season.ย  This would affect his loads, movement etc. Now he has had issues with his toe for about 8 weeks ie since mid/late January.ย  But was allowed to play in Feb/March in the AFLX and 1st JLT.ย

Something went wrong with managing his rehab and return to play -ย  now we pay the price.

ย

Not good, but we've got plenty of options to cover those boys, injuries are always going to happen its rare that a side has its absolute best 22 available for any length of time. We played some of our best footy last year with Max and Jesse out.

Still confident that the side we'll put out on Sunday will win a lot of games in the first half of the year

I'm not sure if blame is the word but the FDย must take some responsibility...

Playing an important player coming back from ankle surgery in the off seasonย in the AFLX was not smart.

Tom was in rehab earlier in the preseason and came to the main group late. It was a dumb move playing him.

...not to mention that the AFLX game isย one that Tom is not suited to.

There was nothing to be gained by playing him.

Yep and againย  The questions need to be asked Viney and T Mac both "Unfortunate Coincidences" have a habit of being the rationale of choice when these incidents occur.ย

Whatever the reason we cannot afford to lose two Key players early in the season IMV.

Don't worryย  we've got this.

Oscar of course.

FFS Oscar you bastard! I'm over it! See you next season!

dramatic much. see ya

I should clarify I was meaning see the players TMac and Viney next season.ย

God if I was that fickle I wouldnโ€™t be a melb supporter.ย

Makes Salem's positional change to inside midfielder seem anย inspired move... it's like they anticipated JV's issues may extend.

And this again is very old school thinking and management. Any player MUST report all niggles when they occur.ย

I'm not going to pass any judgement as I am no expert.

But I am sure that there has been enough of this happening over many years that it would be prudent to employ an independent expert or experts to investigate our rehab process.

From someone who spent 31 years in the Media, 9 of those in a National Newsroom

Do not believe the media coverage when it comes to sport injuries/recoveryโ€™s

It is all spin.ย

Today the Club had to tell the Truth.ย

This has been brewing all summer, regardless of what the players โ€œtellโ€ Satyr at training, he will obviously believe anything he is told.ย

I have had hip, leg and foot prroblems all my life and knew this wasnโ€™t a quick recovery. Load bearing injuries are just that. As soon as you run again, there is massive stress.ย

Whoever gave Viney the ok to play after 19 days of surgery had better find a new job, because they are a fool.ย

For months this club played Trengove week after week with a Foot Injury until he was disabled, and we didnโ€™t learn...

Goodwinโ€™s ass is right on the line now, he is going to have to coach out of his skin this year to cover this mess

i hope he gets through it....

ย

I don't understand why everyone is suddenly up in arms? Dave Misson basically told us this exact news in his video yesterday.

De-load for 10 days and then start to build them back up. That is exactly the same as the time frame given by Goodwin.

ย

I don't care too much about McDonalds injury as it's new and Pedo can come in and do just as well. But Viney, for f#$k sake, they've had 6 months to get it right. I wouldn't have cared if he sat on the couch for 4ย months until it was 100% and then build up his cardio after that. Surely the priority is to get his foot right before re-loading. They say he is out for 6-8 weeks. I think most supporters would prefer it to be 15 weeks if it meant he was to be right.ย ย

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
