Danger won't play. Spoke to snr Geelong person today. Said they would be mad to play him if there was the smallest chance he does it badly and misses 6.

Any news on Ablett or is he definitely playing?

He said Ablett would play

Ablett was always going to play unless he re-injured himself.

Lets be honest, if we had Ablett on our list and he had zero pre-season, we too would back him in. He has enough runs on the board to suggest that even on half a leg at FF he will still do a very good job, certainly better than whoever else would be up for replacing him (Geelong has very little depth.
I suspect/hope Nev takes him when he's forward of the centre, I think they're a good match up.

As for Danger, this is a long season and Geelong are certainly backing themselves in for a top 4 and a tilt at the flag, why else would you get Ablett back? So to risk their best player 2 weeks into a hammy injury, would be sheer madness. Their next game is Easter Monday against arch nemesis Hawthorn, so it gives Danger 4 generous weeks to get himself perfectly ripe.
I think they back themselves to win against us without him, and won't take the risk.

I still can't work out how a player misses just 1 week with a grade 1 hamstring strain?

If he played for the Dees he'd be out for 6 to 8 weeks.

How is Danger a near certain starter if he hasn't even trained yet?!?! That would suggest he's certain to miss

Where does it say "Oliver likely to miss" ?  'Likely' being the operative word.

The club still expects him (Oliver) to play, but sources have indicated it is too early in the week to categorically lock him in.

Chinese whispers strike again...no likely there as far as I can see.

As I read it...

"Oliver not categorically locked in."

Says in 1st line Oliver remains in some doubt, I think he will play I was just pointing out the guessing going on by media outlets they all have no idea what’s going on

I reckon:

Oliver and Ablett will both play.

Tom Mac and Danger will both miss.

They will come up with sensationalist headlines until the teams are announced to get a few clicks, but I can't see Geelong being dumb enough to risk Dangerfield for just one match.

I won't believe it until he's announced to play 90 minutes before the game when the final team list is in.

For the record, they're crazy to play him, especially with Ablett going in with no match practice as well.  I actually think it works in our favour to have them playing blokes who aren't 100%.

Maybe I'm just coming up with conspiracy theories today, but I wonder if Oliver's 'knee soreness' is our way of keep them guessing as well.

How do you extrapolate "in some doubt" and turn that into "Oliver likely to miss" ?  Especially when it says in said article "the club still expects him to play".

You surely see the problem here.

It’s just the way I read it, people read things in different ways, again I was trying to point out that the media are just guessing, if people want to only pick up something I may or may not have read differently to them by 1 word well then I apologize clearly I have upset a few posters so for that I am sorry, I will edit my original post as to cause no more confusion

No problem.  I just think people need to be careful how they interpret articles they're sharing.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
