Clintosaurus 7,953 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Season won't be defined in Round 1 so no point going all out when we will probably win without him. 2 Quote
DemonLad5 1,642 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Yeah we saw from rounds 19-21 how ordinary he was when not right. We need him at his best, id be willing to wait to round 2,3 or 4 to get him at the high level he’s capabale of when healthy Quote
sisso 2,627 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Sensible decision and let’s face it we have won in rd 1 the last 3 years and not made finals in any of them. Round 1 is overrated! 2 Quote

Wiseblood 24,637 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Smart move by the club. The season is a marathon, not a sprint. I'd rather have him for 20 rounds for football than for just 2 or 3. Quote
Lord Travis 10,819 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Mods change thread name to rules out of round 1 please! Quote
david_neitz_is_my_dad 4,084 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Why announce it now though? In doing so you gotta imagine he's going to miss the first few rounds. 1 Quote
bush demon 2,209 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Was a key game in our last premiership year. Although we lost the season opener (narrowly) to Geelong we went on to beat them at Kardinia park and later claimed the premiership: 1 Quote

To give them breathing space so when rnd 1 comes around and he is still a month from playing we’re a little more comfortable. Quote
McQueen 17,867 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Disappointed mainly because I wanted to see him shitmix Selwood. But, what a refreshing change to finally feel at ease with our midfield depth. Quote
Cassiew 1,903 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 I understand why and it’s better we don’t risk it, but damn. There goes my hopes for round 1. Quote

deebug 1,754 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Going to miss seeing him play R1. Will look forward when he comes back. Quote

Hoping he plays for Casey next weekend and can build for round 2 onwards. Be aware, although he is a noted 'fast healer', it is against his best outcomes to return by Round 2. I'd reckon that he needs another month - even two - to improve the injury with limited training stress placed upon the injury. These days, C-V work and effective strength training to keep in tone can be quite easily and comprehensively managed; he will not lose his ball skills nor his drive. Training stress can then be undertaken with caution (of course) in the latter part of this continuing recovery and healing process. We are all very patient and considerate - no, understanding - of his real needs despite his great enthusiasm to return to the playing field with his team; however, he is too great an asset and personality to risk this rapid recovery and deployment. The MFC is Jay Viney. 1 Quote

This brings back wonderful memories - it truly does - of Polly Farmer, Bill Goggin and Co. Goggin was the toughest footballer that I ever played against, without doubt. TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 I wouldn't want to be his first-up opponent in the VFL... 2 Quote

I apportion blame to the Docs/fitness staff, the coaches and Viney himself. Had his injury been handled properly during its initial stages, he would've been ready to go come round 1. Given how tight the comp is to qualify for the 8, come year's end his unavailability may not only cost us a spot in last years finals, but this years as well. Hindsight is always 20/20 but with finals on the line, can you blame the club for trying to rush him back as earlty as possible? Quote

What 18,810 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 (edited) Not a shock at all. Bet we don't see him until round 4 or 5. Which is fine if it means his foot is 100%. Edited March 9, 2018 by Petraccattack Quote
Guest Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 For periods of last season when Maxy, Chunk and Viney went down, I was impressed by our ability to just find a way. We need to do that again. Quote
