I like the pre-game warmup because I am conducting an unscientific study on the correlation between warmup kicking for goals and the in-game goal kicking to see if the warmup is an accurate guage. Results so far are inconclusive. 

I can contribute to this study. Adem Yze seemed to never miss a shot on goal (during the game) if he missed every shot in the warm-up.

But this theory never worked with Neitz, as he needed a set shot from the goal square or a handball over the top to get over his "kicking for goal nerves" for that game. Once he got his first he could nail them from anywhere.

I’m sure both teams appreciate being about to have a little warmup on the ground to help get a feel of it. Even if it’s not just form fams. So they’re taking a thing that fans like away to make way for a fan thing!? Storm games a very family oriented and they still do warmups.

Maybe.....they could have the reserves as a warm up game to the big game....and maybe they could have an under 19’s comp played on the away teams suburban ground at the same time as the seniors......and maybe they could have a trophy named for the winner of all three comps.... and maybe......nah! it’d never sell.....

I too have an interesting warm-up stat, normally every game we have a margin tipping competition where all entries must be in prior to the end of the warm-ups. Now, generally speaking if more people in the group tip us - we win, if less people tip us - we lose. With the exception of 1 game per year Anzac eve I cant get Peggy O'Neal or Brendan Gale to tip us for the life of me. 

So my question is - When are we going to run our nearest to the pin tipping comp - little do some people know our computer is very accurate at margin betting. Shivers I could lose a valuable revenue stream, which I often donate back to the MCG.

Yes SBF i dream of such things too, but i do want to win those flags under the rules of Australian Fiotball, rather than some hybrid packaged rubbish that has been dreamed up by an advertising company!!

I don't like the term "pre game entertainment". I fear something noisy and garish which will add to the cost of putting on the real game which spectators will indirectly have to pay for. I would, however, support curtain raisers, particularly if they involved our AFLW or VFL teams or even TAC cup football..

I'm guessing that the current coaches of Danger, Dusty and Fyfe will freak out at the thought of another coach getting their mitts on their guy ... imagine if Danger did a knee while doing one of Stuey Dew's training drills?

The coaches killed representative footy because of possible player injuries. They might kill this too.

There was the Herald Sun article that I linked before which was sprouting rubbish about AFL in 2050 being played on rectangular grounds.

This is where they want to go.

There is a movement within the AFL to make AFLX the new thing and ultimately take over. By doing so the AFL will actually make the game less popular by destroying the brilliant product that they have inherited.

No bouncing of the ball when running with it. Bloody thing sometimes goes sideways, ruins the spectacle on TV.

New exciting offside rule. Too dull when a bloke gets an easy goal over the top. Ruins the spectacle on TV.

Game day squad of 40. 25 on the field and 15 interchange. Unlimited interchange. How exciting to watch fit young athletes dashing on and off constantly, like track and field relay teams.

New zone system. No, not a requirement to have minimum players in each zone. Instead, teams will be penalised if any player is more than 30m away from the ball. Every player has a chance to be in the action at every moment! What a thrilling spectacle for the TV viewers!

No actual players. Instead players will be holographs controlled by Xbox gadgets operated by spectators who win a lucky draw before the match.

No actual "clubs", which are outre and tribal in this era of enlightenment and egalitarianism. Instead, sponsors will bid each week to have a team playing under their name & colours. ("Come to the G this Wednesday morning at 4AM -- Euro prime time -- to see the Reject Shop Pickers take on the BankWest Platinum Mastercard Big Spenders!") My god, the merchandising opportunities alone are enough to make you weak at the knees!

Players are not signed to club, they're signed to the league. Sponsors to decide which players will play on each team on the day. Marketing managers representing the game day sponsors will do an old fashioned take-it-in-turns to select players. Like in schoolyard days. A tip of the hat to the past, to keep the older (and bigger spending) punters happy.

At half time, players from other clubs can invade and take over positions on the field. For a touch of reality TV, which all punters absolutely love. Just check out the ratings if you're a tired old stick on the mud. One player from each team will change sides at a random moment. In-game betting will give out fabulous cash prizes to viewers who can correctly predict how much revenue this players earns during the game.

The people's game. And you're telling me we're going to have to wait until 2050 to enjoy all this!?
