It is just plain fun to think that we have the best 'true' medium forward in the game. Only Heeney would be a direct competitor but that thought just makes me dream of what Fritsch would be like in a fully functional forward line... oh... wait... that wasn't a dream... that was 12 goals in 3 finals!

:goody2:

Anyway, just for gloating's sake; top selections from the 2017 draft, reordered roughly as I might pick em, but very casually.

Angus Brayshaw

Aaron Naughton

Bailey Fritsch

Zac Bailey, Cameron Rayner, Adem Cerra

Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan, James Worpel, Charlie Ballard

Spargo and Petty also respectable mentions.

Demonland needs a Jason Taylor emoji.

Oh Dear.

Well, I'm not the first and won't be the last!

I wonder if there might even be a repeat of the 'D Cordner' (Denis & Don, of course) situation with the Brownlow votes one day.

I never had that problem with Allen Jakovich. He's a forward and I reckon somewhat comes with the territory.

Yes of course, but sometimes… it less a burning and more an immolation worthy of scripture and legend…

His tackling and forward pressure has come along nicely

I love inter alia his round the corner snaps for goal.

Me too, always feel safe when he goes round the body onto that left.

The making of the banner:

Tracing around those big ol’ letters and getting high on texta fumes.

Fritta’s mum just rocked up: let the fun begin! 🥳

When Pauline saw this she said, “I think I’m gonna cry” and I said “stop, you’ll make me cry!” And so began a chain reaction and suddenly Bayley had an additional half a dozen mums. 😁

And two brand new Giant Fritta heads!

Love your passion and work WCW!

One of my favourite Demons!

He's had a quietly good season so far despite not tearing a game apart. Hopefully this is the weekend he comes out firing and kicks a bag of six or seven.

Side note - He becomes the first player from his draft year to hit the 100 game milestone which is a terrific effort!

Well done on 100... no one would have seen your career trajectory and highlights package coming, least of all your grand final performance.

Anyway... glad he snuck through a goal tonight...

Marbol and Bayley are the only two left standing... kicked a goal in every match in 2022...

got a shout out by the commentators at one stage when he was in a contest around the 50m arc

"hair-raising? he's played 100 games and never had a hair out of place!"

Mr. and Mrs. Fritta loved the hair-raising reference on the banner. They had a choice of either that, or High-Flying. They chose wisely, since Fritta loved it too.
Scott (Dadda Fritta) was so pleased about the fam (14 of them) being invited to raise the banner, he sent us this message this morning. Note how he signs off. 😁

Honestly, this is so heartwarming. It’s easy to forget in the context of billion dollar tv deals and million dollar contracts that these are just people, with families.

It means so much to them, and only means more as they get further into life and realise how lucky they’ve been to be involved in the way they are.

It's a yes from me

I must say the Bailey Fritsch had an excellent 2022. 55 goals and 5th on the goalkicking table behind Curnow, Lynch, Cameron and Hawkins. He has steadily improved and notably his goalkicking accuracy has improved tremendously.
55.22. An excellent conversion.
All the practice which seemed to dessert him in game time finally paid off and he’s become a strong part of the team.
Whilst I’m sure he rather be competing and winning the GF, he can hold his head high.
Congratulations to Fritsch on an excellent 2022.

First player since David Neitz around 20 years ago to lead the goalkicking in three consecutive seasons.

He is a gun. Imagine if he got to play alongside a dominant tall forward!

Kicked his 200th goal on the weekend and currently sits at #26 for most goals scored at MFC.

May end up top 5 by the time his career is done.

Criminally underrated and flying under the radar again with 27 goals from 12 matches.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
