Revenge?

Bulldust.

Win round 1 by 10 goals in 2018.  Great.  Doesn't do a single thing to eradicate the last round in 2017.

About time this club, and its supporters stop looking at external irrelevant factors like curses, luck, and seeking artificial fleeting feel-good moments like 'revenge'.  Yes, we didn't have continuity with injury.  But we stuffed up from an on-field viewpoint (North, Freo etc..) and I reckon it wasn't our best year from a medical point-of-view either.  Viney's return in 2 weeks post-surgery was heroic, but I wouldn't call it smart.

Sure.

But the only way we can do anything about the failure that was 2017 and in particular Round 23 is to make finals in 2018. And winning Round 1 by 10 goals would be a good way to start, no matter who we play.

Agree with the external factors though. How many people blamed the AFL and/or umpiring for the WC-Adelaide result?

Love it, bring it on

Allows us to keep QB as home game while entering a gate sharing agreement with the Pies. Locks in a return game against them every year and guarantees another game at the G (plus starting our season at the G).

I saw that and wondered if it was reported correctly.

Its a big win for us if we keep the gate from our Home QB game and share the gate with Coll for the opening round which would always be their Home game.

It would make more sense if we shared the gate from both 'Blockbuster' games.  Otherwise we make out like bandits financially and Eddie isn't about to give us another free kick.

We may need to wait till it comes from the AFL or the clubs themselves.  As reported it seems odd...

Yeah if it happens it would be a big build up and we would prob win.

Come Rd 2 we play the gcs at the mcg and lose.

That would be typical Melbourne.

It won't hurt and it means we don't play them in round 23

Hold on - this is the same team that just rolled us without several regular starters in their team in a dead rubber for them and for us a fame that meant so much

hmmm, my read of this is they think they have our soft under belly covered and like the sound of stating the season 1-0 and a big gate take

just a little bit jaded still I guess but how people think we can show up and roll them by 10 plus goals is extraordinary

How can it be revenge when the MFC screwed it? We had our destiny in our own hands (and feet) and blew it badly. It's not Collingwood's fault that we blew it. They turned up ready to play for the future of their coach and for their own pride... we couldn't even get motivated by the prospect of playing finals for the first time in years!

We should be thanking Collingwood for what has hopefully been a massive wake up call, not seeking to exact some sort of misguided revenge.

Hate them all you ( as I do) like but one of the nations biggest clubs wants to play us in a "blockbuster"to open the season.  Just shows we have come a long way, despite the obvious disappointment right at the end.  People who dont see this as a positive and a great fillip for the club are deluded.

In a fashion am not fussed who we play. Pity the poor sods. Good ol yoyo Demons will want to make a statement. ( Who knows what will happen the following week ?) but week one they'll be hungry hunters.

Might as well snack on Poi ;)

A wake up call and a lot of mental torture for 8 months to come. It's going to be a long wait to see if it's true.

I like the idea and gives us much needed exposure, think of it as the road to redemption. It doesnt change what happened last week buts its a start.

If we dont get the Pies then it has to be Kangas.

I couldn't care less about revenge, but getting a highly visible and marketable round 1 game against Collingwood AND keeping Queens Birthday would be a wonderful result. Let's hope it happens.

Of course there was talk this time last year about us playing Essendon in round 1 and we know how that panned out.

Every year being able to budget for

1)Pies Rd 1 with the usual hype leading into Round 1 - Pies home game = 70k+

2)Anzac Eve against Richmond 75k+

3)QB depends upon ladder positions but at least 60k with 75+ if both are up and about

Don't underestimate what this exposure on the big stage does for sponsors, attraction of players and big game experience

A big yes from me

Start of the season with a highly billed revenge match between the dees and the pies, I would hope that this would see the player come out and start the season off with a bang not a whimper like they did after Jimmy died.  I want to see real  intensity in tackling, some of best side I have ever seen playing AFL always kept pressure on the ball carrier at all times, if they slipped or made a mistake they were gone. Our game plan seems to be corral them and box them in rather than attack so if they slip or make a mistake we arent always there to take advantage.

Only if this happens.

Round 1 is probably the best scenario to appease the Pies. The first week tends to attract big crowds and so kicking it off against Collingwood would probably get 70k through the gates. Having it after QB probably limits the appeal and if one team is already knocked out of finals, it makes a 50k+ crowd tougher to get through the games. Two clashes before mid-season benefits both sides.
