20 min into the first quarter and we laid 2 tackles. 2 [censored] tackles. Frees in the first 5 to 0.

There was the game right there.

Incredibly loose all over the ground, just don't get it.

Our biggest problem all year has been going inside 50, and then defending on the turnover.

Utter garbage at both, and they do the same thing over and over each week. Need some massive changes when going forward.

I don't understand how people are saying we don't deserve to play finals.  If, by the end of tomorrow, we are in the 8, then we [censored] well deserve it.

If we're not in the 8, we don't deserve it.

As shattering as today was, we have to wait.  We've played 22 games to get ourselves in to this position.  Have we underachieved?  I don't think so.

Seconded.

Hannan was maybe a pass ay the end but i'm with u on the others.

Oscar had a run at the pill from behind the goals when that shanked kick came in from the boundary at the city end and still couldnt make the goal line to lay a finger on it

Guess it was (is) too much for both of my teams to make finals in the same year. Parramatta is the other. Had a great night at Suncorp seeing the boys tear the Broncos a couple of new ones.

Notice a couple of posters potting Jones. Not deserved.  Too easy a target. Other so-called leaders like McDonald, Vince and Gawn were awful.

Jones was one of the few that desperately tried to get  us over the line. If you think otherwise you werent watching the game

You are in much better form than our boys were today RTG

Today is a [censored]-sandwich RN. What can you do? Hindsight is 20 - 20 vision, I know, but I think I saw this one coming.

It all makes sense now. We finish 8th - and play Port. Goodwin's tentacles run deep to Adelaide - they'll win. We also get Lever, and they get commensurate compensation.

This is all about the AFL ensuring its the tightest end in years also :)

Without Tex and Talia?

To have any genuine success i agree.  But we also need a brute of a forward who can clunk marks/smash packs and score half the time from set shots.  We still dont have one.

For me it's not whether they deserve it or not but if they would have any impact, before today I would have said they might, now if they make it I just prey they don't embarrass them self

Hogan is our guy, but sadly we flood the goal square the bomb it long over and over, so he has no chance to mark it.

Get the hell out of the goal square people, make a lead. If hogan can't mark it, Jeffy can grab the scraps.

But nope, lets bomb it long to 15 guys and hope for the best. Genius.

We've had 23 rounds to prove it, not just one game.  We're in the eight at the minute which means we deserve to be there.

I reckon there are such things as season-defining games, and today was the one, so I just can't agree with you Wiseblood. In respect to the 23 rounds/whole season idea, for the last third of it, we're solidly bottom six standard.

Amen Brother.

Our leaders bar Jones were terrible.

Viney laid more tackles today than most of the team.

Disgusting mental application starting from the opening bounce.

I team managed the club many years ago and most of those players would be disgusted with the EFFORT today.

And for the other two thirds, you could argue we were a Top 6 side that had to endure more injuries to key players than any other side.

Regardless, I'm not up for a solid debate.  We've been through enough today.

lost to spud teams e.g. Nth x 2, freox 1

Should have locked away a finals spot by now!

Team has failed to take up opportunities & have a mental toughness issue either through a lack of leaders & getting ahead of themselves!

Whilst our winning games has improved from 2016 x 2...the gap between our best & worst is still evident....

Until that closes expect seasons like this!

As Goodwin said we haven't achieved anything yet!

sorry I meant Dom Tyson. Plays for melbourne.

The tone of the game was set in the first ten minutes. At the 20 minute mark I couldn't wait  for the  siren to sound. So predictable like all our other [censored] games against weak sides. I just hope Adelaide play like a dress rehearsal for finals and not go easy.

I want answers and accountability I'm owed a [censored] apology based on what I saw today.

I want these arrogant non achievers to stand up and explain why after 11 years of [censored] hell they think they can show up and show us no [censored] respect.

I have supported this team my whole life and today I am gutted.

I'm not going to go on about any negatives or players or ump decisions.

I'm just so disappointed with the result that it's gut renching and will stick with me for a long time.

Not a nice way to end the season.

Agree. You and I must have watched a different game. 24 possies and he gave most of them to the Pies.

West Coast win by 17 pts they will overtake the dees by a smidgeon on %. i.e wc 106 d adel 90. WC for will be 1970 aga 1873

which ends up as 105.17 ours is 105.22 and if wc win by another pt their % would be 105.23.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
