Love rumours. Happy to have them.

My only comment: It's 'Dees.'

It's a C-apostrophe! Haha...

...

But, seriously, change it.

Done!

Surely nothing wrong with having the discussion regardless of what triggered it.  Melbourne, like every other club in Victoria, would have at least asked the question. Kelly would make every team better for his inclusion, and if a player like that becomes remotely available, you ask.

My feeling is we wouldn’t be best served entering into any bidding war this year, teams like North, Saint Kilda and Carlton do have a fair amount of leverage in terms of money and tradeable assets, and each have a future to sell. Our best chance to get Kelly may well be if he re-signs with GWS and we spend the next couple of years working out what assets we need whilst clearing the decks sufficiently for a run at a player like him.

We would have our own story to sell to him, particularly with one of his best mates in Salem at the club and the brand of football that is being built. It might come down to timing.

We'd be nuts if we weren't thinking about Kelly.

Some caller on SEN just called and reckons he seen them meet or similar. Reckons a back ended contract after Vince and Lewis retire.....

I can't see it happen but you never know with the new look Dee's, they're secretive.

You just get home Revs Steve?

Sorry mate, I'm unsure what you mean? Was that the callers name?

Maybe we can offer them Salem and Tyson. Oh, wait...

I'll throw in my 3 children too if that helps.

Rumour season has begun.

Don't let them put you off @SFebey, some of the best times on here are when we are discussing trade rumours. Only thing that gets my cranky up is when the inevitable moronic trade suggestions come up. 3 x krap for 1 x champion

Large or small, true or complete BS, I say bring 'em on.

Ok I'll go first, Lamumba, Toumpas and Dawes for Kelly?

Life doesn’t get much better than this; team on the cusp of finals and rumour of the player I want most is considering donning a blue and red guernsey. Best thing is that you know if it comes true our footy department will be offering Kelly a deal that fits in with the rest of our young and talented  team and not some stupid Nth Melbourne $1.5m+

Would love this, Kelly AND Lever, and our list would be complete. However I can't see us having the currency & cap room for both.

Kelly and Lever and we have a dream team. Even landing one of them would be great. I can't see why either of them wouldn't want to play at MFC. We have one of the best young lists in the league. If Kelly chooses North over Melbourne then I'd question whether he was the full quid.

....and i reckon Lewis would have a lot of old friends too......

When the Kelly thing picked up steam a month or so ago, an article said North, Saints and an unknown team were keen. I thought at the time it could be us.

That said, I don't think it is. But he is exactly what we need

I don't think it's financially viable for us to spend the sort of money it'd take to get Kelly. We have a lot of young stars to re-sign as much as he'd be a perfect fit.

Plus I doubt we could satisfy a trade for him and lever without giving up a young gun.

God it would be good to get one back on GWS after $cully

Would love it to be true, he is exactly what we need. But I think it's zero chance of happening.

Leaving a team WITH the best young list in the league, on the cusp of Premiership glory, and returning to Victoria would also beg the question of him being the full quid.

Is he in it for the money or is he wanting to play in GF's?

I reckon he'll extend a couple of years. He's in a team chock full of stars and whoever is in charge of working contracts and player salaries up there has their work cut out for them.

Would he consider the MFC as a likely Premiership contender and play for us, probably on a salary similar to what he'd be getting offered to stay at the Giants (I'm factoring in having Lever also on board) I'm not too sure but I like the sound of it.

There wouldn't be many on the list I'd consider untouchable if it meant getting Kelly and Lever... happy to burn picks too, but the $ tag... I dunno. A price war in the club among the young 'uns wouldn't be good.

I don't know if this story is true or not, but I'd like to think it is - back in the 80's one of the guns at Hawthorn went to the club asking for a hefty pay rise. The answer from the club was to show them Leigh Matthews contract and ask them if they thought they were worth more than him.

That's a bit hard to do when you have a player on $1.5 a year or so.

Another thing to think about too is the CBA has gone up which may free up cash. I can't see it playing out in my head but he is exactly what we need.

We can't afford it and frankly I wouldn't want to spend so much money on one individual. Yes he's a gun but how do we propose to pay all the other young guns on our list if we blow over a million a season on this kid?

A team full of C graders like North can afford it. We can't. Besides is a false dawn strategy. We need to build a good team not a team built around 1 good player.

We have more than one good player. Kelly would be the icing on a very substantial cake

The are many things to like about this rumour.

1. Ending up with Salem, Kelly and Tyson in the same team, swallow that purple.

2. Watching a Scott brother spontaneously combust.

3. Reminding the World of where the centre of the football universe is.

4. Best of all... probably won't happen, but will still make DB choke, the Scotts go shrill, and dominate with the list we have.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
