Umpiring of MFC games very questionable

So ,really, we only lost by 5pts, and it cost us a finals berth.

There was no way those frees would not have been paid to Coll. if the situation was reversed. The influence of the howling Mudpie fans made sure they got a good run all match.

Sorry to put you through this Jack, but any idea who the controlling umpire at the time was? Lucky number 28 perhaps?

Also, anyone watching a replay, there was a contest in our F50 early on, I think before a goal had been kicked. Outer wing, kick into Pedo to attempt a mark. Was it a one or two handed push in the back to take him out of the contest? Play on!

No I think it was ump 8 that turned a blind eye to Dunne's scoop, and the same ump didn't pay the Pedo push in the back soon after on our 50 m line.

I haven't checked whether it was Pannell(28), that failed to see the blatant free to Tmac in the square on 3/4 siren.

Ok then, for all the 'incompetence' theorists out there. Looking at the finals week 1 umpire appointments, both Chamberlain and Nicholls have been given a run. Would this really happen if they weren't performing or doing what they were requested? There's no incompetence here. I'll go even further, and as Jack said above, it was umpire number 8 Brett Rosebury that missed 2 crucial forward 50 free kicks for us against the Pies. Guess who else has been given a finals run. Hmmmm..... Steak  knives? The other umpire from our Pies clash, 11 Curtis Deboy, has been rewarded with his first ever finals appearance. Well done champ, your efforts have not gone unnoticed! The only question though is, where the hell is Pannell? He must've accidently paid us a free

deliberate OOB paid when WCE one point in front, the touched goal...

look at the AFL Media today going bananas over that last decision, which was a free everyday of the week for me.

if you've watched a lot of footy this year and last nights game and think that's it's still not a stitch up then I'll go jump. The most obvious and suspicious season of umpiring I've ever seen. My opinion stands.

Must admit I was a nuetral observer going into the game. Despised them both being in front of us and in the 8.

I didn't know the free kick count but started supporting West Coke because of the umpiring bias to Port.

Having said that I believe it was more of a home ground thing than any instruction from the AFL.

I think you mean a final decided by two players from opposing teams.  One that gave a high tackle in the forward 50, and the other being the player that kicked the goal.

GM: Ohhhhhhh yes. That. I'm glad you're here. I've got a few words for you blokes.

Umpire 2: I know, Mr McLachlan. We're sorry. We held our own review after the match. We're really sorry. We know it's a showcase and it's broadcast into 800 countries worldwide, and--

GM: What? What are you talking about?

The guys wearing foam costumes like lions or tigers or swans or clowns or what the f*** run around before the game giving high fives to the kiddies. Tradies try to take speccies at half time to win a TV. And you f***ers run around doing your umpiring refereeing ... whatever the f*** thing. You know what? I spoke to the Eagles sponsors after the game and they were so f***ing over the moon they were talking about sponsoring the entire league! And here you are worrying about "decisions" ... what ... Sounds about right, can't wait for the next episode, Syd/Ess URP. Those poor bastards didn't stand a chance, but at least they tried. Winning the free kick count 26-20 away from home is about as good as it gets.

I've just watched the Geelong/Sydney game. I wasn't really barracking for either side, so for once, I was unbiased in my judgment of the umpiring.

For the first 5 min, the umpires let the game flow, not paying "twiggy touch woods".

Then they gave Dangerfield a very dubious free in front for a tiny jumper tug, which happens in every marking contest.

From then on, I could only describe the umpiring in that game as unintelligent, ignorant and inconsistent. Nicholls, Raspberry and the other goose should never get another final.

They pay too many "unnecessary" frees, where nobody would criticise them for not paying a free. Frees that you have to watch the replay three times in slow motion to see why they were paid.

Then they fail to pay blatant holding the man, throw, or push in the back.

The umpires are very well paid. They are above criticism.

Tonight's Pelicans should get a pay cut or a fine.

Well seeing as this is an umpiring thread and the Brownlow is voted by the umpires I'll have a rant. @Lucifer's Hero sums it up very well!

So we have the deliberate (no votes) to Danger to avoid embarrasment of winning.

Then we also have GOTY, winner being indigenous which is great as they are the real stars but there would've been 20 better goals this year, even Oliver v Adelaide & Hunts 75m torpedo into the wind were better IMO, not to mention 5-10 of Eddie Betts' goals and the best one of all IMO was Buddy's.....

Then MOTY - Howe did Howe not win this? He was told to be sitting in his seat when it was announced and funny enough it was given to an Essendon player, who I think the AFL are trying to get everyone forgive after their drug cheating scandal. I even think Puopulo's mark was better than JD's!

Now apparently these awards are voted by the public? But everyone at least thought Howe should have got MOTY. Which leads me suspect the AFL intervened and rigged it all. Just my thoughts, but I have no trust in the current AFL administration one bit. Gil needs to go.

And all in the same week as Cotchin, captain of a participating GF team, gets off the MRP with no case to answer? When he clearly tucked his arms in, lead with his shoulder and caused concussion - if he was going for the ball adamantly he would've had his hands out to grab it, any other week during during the year he would've been rubbed out or got a fine, which would see his missing the GF...AFL wouldn't let it happen, AFL wants Richmond to win the Premiership. If Dangerfield laid his "dangerous tackle" in the Pre-lim, do you think he would be playing the GF? Yes he would.

Did Andrew McGrath deserve the Rising Star ahead of Powell-Pepper or Burton? McGrath another Essendon player.

James Hird to present the Norm Smith after his indiscretions? Essendon.

The whole thing is getting unbearable to watch, but Gil and his puppets will call it the best season ever due to the closeness of the games, where if one watched closely, umpires evened up games themselves. The whole game needs an overhaul, but they will get away with it due to the "results."

What gives me hope is maybe one day soon the AFL will want the Mighty Dees to win a premiership after a long draught, but personally, I hope we do it the hard way and our own way.

Can someone please clarify...are the Mark of the Year and Goal of the Year chosen by the public? (I don't mean the weekly award - just the annual award taken from the weekly ones). If it is, Howe not winning MOTY is astounding as I would have thought the Collingwood masses would have been enough to get him over the line. And if it's not public voted...I still don't understand why he didn't win it.
