North must be wanting more than we are willing to give. They think there is a chance we will crap our pants and cave. However I trust the MFC these days to make good deals.

it’ll get done tomorrow and be a good result.

i dont want to get brown for 2 second rounders. Will getting brown put us in the premiership window? No. So lets not overpay.

You think offering 2 picks for Brown is a good idea, others don't, we will wait and see what the deal is and then be judged by our opinion once we see what Brown puts on the park, not on what he has done but what he will actually do.  I'm happy to be proven totally wrong and you are welcome to bump this thread late next year and I will cop my whack and will happy to do so because if I am we are playing finals with a dominant forward

So bring back Frost and Preuss then with 26 and 31 instead of BB? I hope we just do whatever the damn trade is whether it's 1 or 2 2nd round picks with a pick coming back our way, and we have a kpf next year. Amost any trade result is better than having Frost and Preuss/Tyson on our list instead.

For me  2 second round picks for Brown is a no brainer. 12 months ago if someone suggested that, they'd get laughed at.

for me it's a question of, does his lead up game actually suit our chaotic, bomb it long game style?

It’ll put us a hell of a lot closer than two second round draftees in a very speculative draft.

I’m still hoping we hold out, if we are to give up two second rounders perhaps ask for a third or fourth round pick back (if they have one).

So much for some of here yesterday saying that Brown will be a demon by COB..

He kicked 60 goals a season for 3 out of the past 4 seasons. If he added 45-50 goals for us in 2020 we probably win 2 (arguably 3) more games and are a bees d away from top 4. To say he doesn’t put us in the premiership window is a limited argument.

On the other hand, not adding either another key forward OR a goal-kicking small means we are reliant on our current set up adding another 2+ goals a game (on average) in 2021. I’d take the punt on Ben Brown For 2x 2nd founders of it comes to that.  Have to do everything we can to win a flag with Max & May at peak age.

Are we thinking North are prioritising other deals? or still just in a deadlock?

It could just be that both clubs have a deal in principle ready to go but want to see how everything else plays out tomorrow before pulling the trigger. I don't think either club have a reputation for playing hard ball.

I think Fox Footy and the AFL have gotten into both camps and are setting this up as a Tradeday Night special me thinks.

Latest Age article (headline about Stephenson) mentions Dees have not yet offered North any of our 2nd round picks.

Late Wednesday, North was still unable to come to terms with Melbourne on a trade for key forward Ben Brown, with the Demons yet to offer the Roos one of their second round choices - a situation that surprised North, since Melbourne had three picks in that round including the one acquired from Greater Western Sydney for Braydon Preuss.

Maybe we are trading up into the top 20.

A future 2nd for Brown should suffice.

Potentially not a bad strategy from Mahoney.

Brown nominated us. He isn't talking to any other clubs. He isn't going back to North.

We can do every other deal then do this at the end, as North doesn't have much bargaining power.

That way we can do what we want to with everything else (ie picks, players etc.) then offer what's left: as long as it is a reaaonable offer they'll take it.

If I was North I'd tell us to get F-d if that's the offer and let Brown walk to take a chance at the draft. He was god awful this year with lots of problems but you look at where he has ranked in previous seasons when fit and he's worth more than a future second rounder.

It's actually intriguing that it sounds like we're the ones doing a bit of hard ball on the deal, usually Mahoney looks to get deals done fairly easily if there's a player we want.

Not saying we should blink but Brown is a player we require so let's not go down the Blues path and force him into a draft lottery.

A bit nervous about this one. surely we just get this deal done asap and move on.

I hope we

Use the picks required to get  Krusty (Brown), then do a pick package with the Bulldogs to take their 1st rounder!

Use a hangover late pick to grab a diamond in the rough.

Every time I check into Demonland, I’m expecting to see a thread ‘Welcome to Demonland Ben Brown’, and all I see is yet more pages on this thread.

We’re starting to run out of sand in the hourglass.

That said, Mahoney is proven in this space. I think he knows how to pilot this ship. But I am getting anxious - we really need this bloke next year (and beyond).

I don’t know what I’ll do if we don’t land him.

Well, I do actually - I’ll drink loads of Scotch. At pace. Sans water and ice.

If not offer the 2 Macs 2nd rounder for Cameron.

We will also throw in Joseph Gutnick

Same, i'm confident we will land him, but it should have been done already. not sure what's holding it up unless we're trying to add something else into the same deal?

I am confident that this will get done. As I understand it, just haggling over the price.

I think it will be pick 31 or 33 that goes to Norf.

Intriguing if true that we haven't offered any of our second rounders. Our next picks are 43 and 50 and we don't have a future second to offer either.

Ok, Gutnick and  Wacko Jacko!

I hope you die"- Jacko Rips Into Journo

Actually, this guy roaming the forward line now  would be inspirational. God the AFL  has gone to riun!

A deal will get done and Brown will be a Dee, patience. As a supporter I don’t care what picks we give up, it won’t be a first rounder so who cares.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
