They are super confident on Bigfooty Carlton board. They are certain of the win. Would really love to pummel them. It's time.

I like Kent as well but the last few times we've seen him in the seniors he looked like he wasn't doing the team things like chasin and tackling. If he gets those factors right I think he can be a good player for us.

If he has half a brain (not conclusively proven as yet) he will realise that he has been given chances before and it seems hasn't done what has been asked of him, and may not get too many more chances especially as some of our injured players return.  If and when we get a fully fit list there will be quite a few disappointed spectators amongst their ranks.

So hopefully he will run, run, run, tackle, tackle, tackle, and kick a bag of goals.

There doesn't appear to be a training thread for today.

Can anyone lucky enough to get there comment on appearances / work of some our injured top 22?

In particular:

Jones?

Tyson?

Salem?

Watts?

Brayshaw?

Was Bugg there?

Viney - was he there at all?

Why wouldn't Bugg be there?

Sorry, I was posting updates on this thread from training today.

None of the injured brigade were present apart from Brayshaw. He completed the whole session and also stayed back for extra work with Cross. He's looking good.

No Bugg also, I read he is away for a bit.

Billy Stretch would almost want to play the game of his life! Very Very lucky to retain his spot after indifferent physical presence last week!

Not overly keen on these changes.

Smith in so early is a huge gamble, no direct replacements for Tyson and Viney.

Fingers crossed that Lewis and Vince get lots of time in the midfield.

Let's face it we are looking at the bottom of the proverbial barrel and none of these players would have been given a look in had we not had the injuries.

Hopefully they get us past the Blues and then we can slowly reset

It's only Carlton, will play him back into his brilliant qtr debut form.

With 5 wins and the 2nd lowest % I wonder why. Even with our injuries we have heaps of talent. They are still imagining that we are the easybeats of the last decade and haven't paid attention to not just our form but their lack of. How good is this season despite our injuries. Cant wait to see the hulk play and Garlett feeding off him.

Well this is very disappointing not to c Trenners in the side. Obviously his cards have been stamped and I for one cannot understand why we kept him on the list just for a reserves player.

Its pathetic. Two of our best midfielders are out and we have included NO midfielders as direct replacements.

Kent u beta pull a performance out of ur behind.

I just don't understand the logic behind it.

Smith has only just come back from a serious injury and I would have thought he would be given more time in the reserves to get match conditioning and Kent he has been given more chances than I care to remember. Kent needed to continually show consistency in the reserves imo.

Trenners should have been in the side.

I didn't have a good feeling about this game before the team was announced and now it's even worse.

Im really [censored] tbh and feel deeply for Trenners.

From all the Casey reports I have read all year, Trenners seems to have consistently been one of the stand outs.  Hard not to imagine where the club is going with him.

I'm just looking forward to some footy being played this weekend.  The debacle that was Friday night seems to have dragged on for a fortnight and it's good to focus on some actual football instead, even if we're missing some key players and the game will be closer than most of us would like.

I disagree, as I don't think he brings much more than the others that are in there.  Someone like Harmes, for example, has more strings to his bow and can play multiple positions with confidence.  Not sure Trengove has that capacity, even if they have been trialling him off half back.  I feel for him, but understand the decision.

Hard to say when we never get to see the poor bloke play. Agree about Harmes but I would have had Trenners in b4 Smith and certainly White last week. Not just as a reward for effort but also about deciding the former captain's future which seems a forgone conclusion with this non selection.

Despite the odds and injuries I'm tipping a big win and statement by this club.

Oliver, Trac, Lewis and  Vince to get the job done in middle (Prefer Bernie there anyway).

Our backline to stand up like it has been and our new forward line with Tmac and our 2 highest goal scorers back in to get us well over 100 points. Go Dees.

Just like the time before last time when we beat them.

Every game we play until Jones and Viney are back, that's a fair old chance.

Playing finals is touch and go, this game is massive for us, bigger than the Sydney game.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
