MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15

JKH, Kennedy or Kent very stiff to miss out. We lose a small forward & wing/mid & replace with 2 defenders? Trust in Goody, I guess. Not too many mistakes so far.

The ins (Watts, Garlett, Hogan)  next week vs Carlton are going to look very, very nice.

Especially considering we will be coming off 5 straight wins. Yes we will beat Sydney.

True but if we win well it could make selection a nightmare. I feel sorry for Jones who has played in so many games when we have lost. He needs to be back enjoying the success after all that darkness. Got a feeling Trac is going to have a big big game. Maybe up forward.

Was hoping Sydney wouldn't drop Sinclair. They're immensely better without him. He is garbage.

True, but there is clearly more to it.  Possessions are one thing, but it's all the other stuff that matters and if they aren't even listed as emergencies, then I doubt they are meeting the requirements to get a senior game.

I think Goodwin has done enough with his selections, some of which were questioned, that we should wait and see how it plays out.  White and Wagner give us good foot skills, plenty of run and lots of options.

I agree and I've been vocal about it in the past but not saying a thing this time.

Clearly he is trying to send them a message though.

Walking the beach break nothing in my head the whirl of cheroot smoke riding my tread and two sooty oystercatchers coming my way low on the wave and I call out to them ...Hey who's in and they waggle their wings like two big W's and I see its Wagner and White for Garlett and Salem and exhaling I say thanks     but what does that mean and almost lost in the waves is the sooties cry ... Hunt goes fooorwwarrd... And so I stop take of my clothes and walk into the surf Byrons lighthouse is blinking on the horizon.....

That is the best dream I never had. #huntforward

Swans at full strength, Dees decimated by injury, coming off 3 six day breaks and likely suffering light headlines after unprecedented over hyped media talk. Always a poor omen!

My head says no!

My heart hoping my head is wrong.

One last thing, if the Dees somehow win Goodwin has one hell of a selection headache next week.

Sydney ins are McVeigh and Zak Jones

not bad ins

Mcviegh is a hand full of games from retirement. He is now a handicap to the side. They are slow as it is.

JKH has been tearing it up in the middle in the VFL, already got a contract next year, wants to keep improving, intends to keep banging the door down and earn a spot

I reckon,  why not Oliver actually rest in the Forward Pocket? I heard that the umpires are so pee"d off with "not being taken notice of" they are going to give him fifty free kicks.^_^^_^:roos::pj::rolleyes:

Not quite sure what the adjective "sneaky" adds to this unexplained number. Irrespective of the formula used to determine the "37 per cent chance", that number is meaningless if we're not told what the percentage chances of every other club is.

The number is meaningless anyway, regardless of other club ratings.

A number derived from a set of data, much of which is meaningless means that is meaningless too.

Remember this is the organisation that rates Collingwood as having the greatest midfield in the comp.

Does anybody remember the after match functions we used to have back in the Daniher days? I only went to a few and they were generally at the Hilton in a big room with a stage. There was 1 back in about 2004 when wed just pinched number 1 spot on the ladder after a win over the Hawks at the G. Daniher walked on stage in front of the whole team and just waved 1 finger at the crowd which went absolutely berserk! Unfortunately the fairy tale didn't come true that year, but I was wondering now with our resurgent successes would perhaps this sort of thing start happening again? I'm not sure who or how it used to be organized but they were great events.

I wasn't there but remember hearing about it -- it worried me that we were well ahead of ourselves and if I recall we hardly won again that season.

Hold the celebrations until the evening of September 30 -- not that I am getting ahead of myself :-)

Watch us struggle to tackle him with his subtle little shimmies and twists.

Me at start of year - yeah, I'd  be happy with 7 - 8 wins.

Me now - I WANT TO WIN THEM ALL!

Wagner and White off half back?

Hibberd to the midfield?

Hunt up forward to replace Jeffy?

Goody has something up his sleeve!

Have a feeling Hunt will play Garlett's roll of sprinting into an open forward line

Way too much read into who the Emergencies are.

They're partly an encouragement award.

Every player on the list knows where they stand irrespective of named emergencies.

feel sorry for Jones if he never gets to hold that silverware above his head before his career is over.

Apart from H,who is running a Kingdom.

Still looking forward to this game, heading along hoping for a win but hard to see us pulling it off, I hope it's a close game

Only forced changes:

  • Emg: Jack Trengove, Sam Weideman, Dion Johnstone
  • In: Wagner, White
  • Out: Garlett (hamstring), Salem (hamstring)

Bit surprised with the Emg: No Kent, JKH or Kennedy - some of the best players at Casey and highly touted on there.

1st Prize goes to @Satyriconhome who first said White will play!

Nnnoooo?! I'm shocked that a professional team didn't make "horses for courses" or "soreness" changes when pushing for finals for the first time forever...

Best team will play each and every week barring injuries or better players coming in, we no longer live in the "rested", "managed" or "general" phase.

Upgrading a rookie ahead of Kent, BenKen and our man Trenners says a bit.

God I hope we can get up for this one after a bloody tough recent schedule and give a big shout in our first Friday game when we are finally playing well.

Seeing Dion Johnstone as emergency ahead of Kent... bit odd. Kent will surely be requesting a trade at the end of the year.

And...

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
