Silk Road or local supply?

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Mitch White has been promoted meaning he's one of the ins. Definitely didn't see that coming.

I'm surprised at the inclusion, was mentioned by other posters that he might come in but I didn't think it would happen. Faith in the match committee I guess.

Does anybody remember the after match functions we used to have back in the Daniher days? I only went to a few and they were generally at the Hilton in a big room with a stage. There was 1 back in about 2004 when wed just pinched number 1 spot on the ladder after a win over the Hawks at the G. Daniher walked on stage in front of the whole team and just waved 1 finger at the crowd which went absolutely berserk! Unfortunately the fairy tale didn't come true that year, but I was wondering now with our resurgent successes would perhaps this sort of thing start happening again? I'm not sure who or how it used to be organized but they were great events.

I remember Daniher on the couch before the 2000 GF giggling like a school girl while Sheedy was all business and focused. I knew then we would get smashed. And in the rooms beforehand the bombers were smashing each other at boxing whereas we were all backslapping each other.

I daresay it would be different today

Daniher used to say that you have to enjoy the journey but it was clear we were happy just to get to the GF.

Melbourne team: round 15

B: Michael Hibberd, Oscar McDonald, Neville Jetta

HB: Jordan Lewis, Sam Frost, Jayden Hunt

C: James Harmes, Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince

HF: Billy Stretch, Cam Pedersen, Christian Petracca

F: Clayton Oliver, Tom McDonald, Alex Neal-Bullen

Foll: Max Gawn, Jake Melksham, Jack Viney

I/C: Mitch Hannan, Tom Bugg, Mitch White, Josh Wagner

Emg: Jack Trengove, Sam Weideman, Dion Johnstone

In: Wagner, White

Out: Garlett (hamstring), Salem (hamstring)

Hmmmmm. Not sure about these.

One, sure. Both... not filling me with confidence.

I'll back in Goody, had done well most of the year with selections.

Interesting to see DJ as an emergency in front of Kent, Kennedy.

Only forced changes:

  • Emg: Jack Trengove, Sam Weideman, Dion Johnstone
  • In: Wagner, White
  • Out: Garlett (hamstring), Salem (hamstring)

Bit surprised with the Emg: No Kent, JKH or Kennedy - some of the best players at Casey and highly touted on there.

1st Prize goes to @Satyriconhome who first said White will play!

So Wagner and White to rotate half back and Hunt to play forward seems the likely change then.

Seeing Dion Johnstone as emergency ahead of Kent... bit odd. Kent will surely be requesting a trade at the end of the year.

Going for a lot of run out of the backline, the Swans have looked vulnerable getting caught out on the quick rebound.

Wow, never thought I'd see Mitch WHite make it back into the seniors as hes so far down the pecking order.

I do like what he has showed in his brief time at AFL level in the past though.

You can't help but have mixed feelings about the changes - on one hand it's strange a Kent, Kennedy or a JKH aren't selected, but on the other hand Goodwin has got it right more than he hasn't and you can't help but back him on these selections.

I like White but shocked none of Kent, JKH or Kennedy were selected.

I liked White for what he showed in the GWS game a little while ago, but as you say, it's a bit strange they didn't replace Jeffy with another small forward.

Major slap in the face to Kent and JKH considering Johnstone is listed.

Wagner and White off half back?

Hibberd to the midfield?

Hunt up forward to replace Jeffy?

Goody has something up his sleeve!

Not a great looking side on paper I must say. Fingers crossed that we are competitive and no thanks to the AFL for the scheduling.

Can't see it goody is a straight shooter if he says they are not playing then they won't be

You were right. I was hoping against hope I guess.

I like the White inclusion. Almost a like-for-like for Salem although he's still quite inexperienced when compared to the latter. I still would've liked at least one more change. This is our third six day break in a row and I would've like some more fresh legs out there. JKH in particular seemed worthy of another crack at AFL level after his blistering VFL form and recent contract extension. Also, are Kennedy and Kent completely out of favour at the moment? Seeing Dion Johnstone as an emergency doesn't seem to bode well for their future at the club.

I still have a big belief that we can get the four points here (would make an excellent way to bring up the 21 for yours truly). We just beat West Coast last week with Garlett and Salem on the bench for the majority of the second half.

True, but there is clearly more to it.  Possessions are one thing, but it's all the other stuff that matters and if they aren't even listed as emergencies, then I doubt they are meeting the requirements to get a senior game.

I think Goodwin has done enough with his selections, some of which were questioned, that we should wait and see how it plays out.  White and Wagner give us good foot skills, plenty of run and lots of options.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
