So much better than Hamish's "Oscar-Elliot" and "Watts, kick, goal".

Seven are really pushing him but I'm simply not a fan. Hell I'd even take BT over him.

The lead up to " Oscar-Elliot" was "the  debutant in Moore, to Adams."

One of the best passages of the season and we have to listen to that. I'm with you Pates, not a fan either!

I doubt there's one but would love to see a reverse angle of Jack's sealer...just to watch it sail through :)

I was lucky enough to be sitting right behind it.  As Watts ran in he slowed right down, balanced himself before he kicked and it was like an arrow.  There was not the slightest bend on it, straight over the goal umpires head.  I knew he'd done it the moment it left the boot, it was pure.

Coaches often talk about courage and the courage to run when you're spent.  Watts was remarkable in this respect yesterday.  One wonders if the training camp they went to before Christmas was the genesis of that ability - to just run when you can't.

Great moment for Jack, great moment for every Melbourne supporter and I suspect a great moment for all football supporters other than the Pies.

They showed the angle behind Jack on 360 tonight. As VP said, an arrow.

Since we are on the commentary (and I did just say I prefer BT over Hamish) what the hell was BT banging on about at the final siren with Fasolo having a shot on goal talking about the runner? There was 5 seconds to go, I don't think there's much a runner can do at that point!

Sorry if this one has already been posted, but Jack's matchwinner with the 3AW commentary:

Brilliant, also Watts headed off for a change over after the goal but was told sorry mate head down back... saved us.

No foxtel here

Any other way to glimpse this ?

Absolute guttersnipe, feral, vacant-brain verbal diarrhoea from some very poor excuses for human beings.

Apologies if it's been mentioned before...

My hero of the day, and it's taken me til today to find him. Think back to the game, we're 4 up with about 4 minutes left... Hunt misses the shot on goal, manages to get the ball soon after and runs around Treloar, delivers inside fifty. Miskick to Grundy and the pies clear.

On the footage I have, Sidebottom ends up with it, running on the boundary of the wing. Salem is tracking him but can't catch up. Sidey handballs to Treloar on the sponsors logo and he's off with a paddock in front of him. I thought we were a certainty to see Treloar give them the lead then and there. At the time I remember thinking this is it. If we win by stopping them here, it's as important as a goal.

Camera pulls out to a long shot. Those of you with a copy take a look. The whole midfield is empty. Treloar can run all the way to fifty and unload. Only Salem is trailing him, and while he tries his hardest, he hasn't got the pace. In the long shot we see Hunt as the only red and blue jumper, and he's behind the centre circle and is jogging having given up. And rightly so. He's fifty metres off the contest.

At this point, a smaller player for us identifies that there's noone left who can help Salem and pressure the kicker, and the guy sprints from off camera all the way up to Treloar to get a hand on him as he launches into his delivery. The slightest effect on the kick meant that it didn't have penetration, and was more lofted than Treloar would have liked. We get numbers to the drop, and we clear. The next half a dozen plays are all fifty fifty contests.

He wouldn't have gotten a stat as it wasn't a tackle. Noone around me even noticed the distance he ran to get to the contest. I felt like I was the only one who saw, from where I was sitting. And since it wasn't a score or important free kick it probably got lost in the multitude of hard efforts all day from both sides. But for me, that player was as much a hero as Jack. 50 metre sprint to catch one of the zippier players in the AFL, when he was on completely the wrong side of the ground, and it definitely wasn't his job.

The name? T. Bugg.

Ripping pick up.

Howe starts that chain of possession at full back and Bugg is 5 metres away and looks cooked. For him to see Treloar in a paddock, realise if he didn't go no one would, and not only put in the effort but get there and affect the kick was huge.

It's stuff like that that keeps Bugg in the side over Kent, for example.

Its a sign of a maturing team when players can see the 'wrong' and seek to right it.

Sometimes it's more about the immediate moment than blindly following a 'plan' .

Watching the replay of the fateful goal, who was the bloke that Watts ran past as he went for his 50m hard lead?

Taylor Adams.

I really hope that kid joins a successful club one day, he deserves it...

Nah, we're not gonna need him.

Wasn't he the [censored] who made it clear in the press that he refused to be interviewed by us when he indicated he was leaving GWS?

Your argument is great, except Tyson is one of the longest kicks in the team! FMD.

Huh? Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt re. the pre-season knee injury, but it's clear as day Tyson has lacked penetration in his kick all year. Trenners is a decent comparison.

This is mostly bs. But anyone here who thinks it's all bs is as blind as the video-maker. Almost every decision in the 4th went our way. We were better in the last but without a doubt had the run of the green. Absolutely felt it watching it at the time as well, because, well, it's unusual and stood out. Don't think it would have been the difference, but it invalidates genuine complaints about the umps when you don't accept when it falls in your actual favour. And, as we should appreciate, it's not always the balance of unfairness during an entire game, but when and how the bad calls are made. We got lucky. Be humble and hope it's a sign of things to come. Free kick, Melbourne.

Certainly was him.  We have a lot to thank him for though...his comments in the lead up, his turnovers in the first half, and him being part of the JW theatre chasing him in vain.  And then the image of him hunched over on the ground immediately after.  What's that about "karma" ??

Get off it Jumbo. A poster can be critical of aspects of Watts's game and acknowledge his good traits and also when he exceeds those particular criticisms without it being on-or-off a supposed bandwagon. This is the sort of nonsense why people don't feel comfortable even mentioning Jack's name with even the slightest hint of criticism on here. I was happy for Jack yesterday. Thought he didn't go hard enough at times vs. GC. Where's the divisiveness in that? It's Jack's apologists who are engaging in the trench-mentality.

You called Jack "half-arsed" and accused him of "not pulling his weight". You are wrong.

Well we best take it and move on because this week we're playing the " always get the rub of the green" Doggies

The umps missed plenty all day, both ways, including pushes in the back, running too far, kicks too short, entering the "protected zone", on and on.

If the game had been reffed by the book, who knows how it would have turned out, but we probably would still have won.

But it's a lottery. This week we got the lollies. Next week we might be the ones screaming about the umps. Think of all the controversial finishes this year so far.

Every week someone will feel hard done by because the umps do not ref to the actual rules of the game.

Oh what a fine win that was! I was on up on the top level of the MCC on half way and it absolutely erupted when Watts kicked the sealer. Watching the replay, it was on much more of an angle than I originally thought. That's confidence for you!

Regarding the incident with the collingwood cheer squad after the siren, I was keeping an eye on it. Watts was in between the goal line and the fence and when the siren went, he simply turned to the crowd and smiled and put his arms up in celebration. Just one of those "nothing more to say" type celebrations. Buggy joined him soon after who I'm sure had a few things to say. The filth had their pride hurt so they went full feral-mode and were hurling abuse at him. Threw a few bottles and things too which brought the attention of security (who took about 5 minutes to get down the aisle to the front. Didn't look like they pulled anyone up for it.

I agree we definitely got the better run in the last quarter but no where near as good as the Collingwood supporters are making it out to be. If you had just read what they thought about the game and hadn't seen it you would think it was the worst ever umpired game in the history of the AFL. Some of the "free kicks" in that video I don't even know what player or tackle they are referring to.

Vagg, the wife's Nonna passed a few years ago and we were lucky enough to get her radiogram. Had it refurbed... bloody love.

Cards, that's great!  Really wish I still had our old HMV!  Many pleasant hours of listening to the footy, as well as the likes of "Hop Harrigan", and "The adventures of the Sea Hound", etc! Not to mention cranking up the turntable for the early Beatles Albums "Please Please Me" and "Beatles For Sale".  Ah!  The "Good Old Days"!!  LOL

Geez you have to be as old as me. You forgot "Dad and Dave" though.  Haha

The other thing that has escaped the ferals is that, rightfully or wrongfully, the umpires are instructed to pay nothing but irrefutable free kicks in the dying minutes of a tight contest.  Consistency with what has been paid in the game to date is jettisoned at that juncture.  This is a long standing convention in AFL footy.

I really hate to harp on about this Bugg thing... But I've just taken another close look.

I'm pretty crap at uploading etc... not sure how to do short videos and captures. Here's a picture I took of my finger anyway.

That's Bugg I'm pointing at. He's behind Olly, Harmes ANB and Hunt as would-be chasers. When he crosses the paint of fifty he's still just jogging and the ball has been kicked to Sidebottom. I'd love it if someone could tell me the exact distance between the arcs, because in exactly 10 seconds (3:41-3:31 on the clock) he covers a bigger distance than that.

No-one anywhere else will single him out because he didn't make the tackle. Only just affected the kick... but bloody hell I hope Goody does.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.
