This is a great deal. Balic can move when he's fit and more importantly he's a decent kick. For a junk pick it's really good value. Don't be surprised if he moves ahead of Stretch in the pecking order.

If he's half as good as Freo fans on BF claim he is then we've got ourselves a bargain.

My best mate who's a diehard Docker rates the kid really highly and is spewing to see him leave. Reckon we might have a player on our hands. Also like the one year contract, he'll need to buy in and contribute straight away, no more armchair rides at the Dees!

Jack Fitzpatrick. it was seriously average.

You read my mind. His "highlights package" actually showed him missing a goal from 2 metres out.

I Laughed watching his u/18 carnival cos he was so hopeless I was certain if there’s one player I don’t want it was him. Sure enough...

Maybe youd care to explain how we'd get a higher pick out of port which they didn't have?

Maybe not higher than 31. But could of upgraded 47 or even 36. Look foolish if our desired player goes one pick earlier. Mahoney has stated that it was easier. His responsibility is to get the best deal for the club and us members.

Mahoneys negotiation skills are horrible. He’s mastered the lose- win outcome of negotiation.

If Mahoney was a hostage negotiator they’d all be dead and the guy would be sunning it up on a tropical island.

Now he is home & surrounded by his support group, real chance he may really start to grow. Love it. Hope! It sells!!!!

so, all afl trade managers need to do a course in hostage negotiation - lmao

Saw the same comment when we got Michie.

Hope your mate is a good judge and I welcome Harley to the club but I'll wait and see how he goes on game day before I get too excited.

Love he said his aim is to play afl seniors in round 1 2018. Didn’t give an answer about building up or consistency or anything, he’s said he’s gonna train hard and aim for round 1. Love the confidence.

This kid has talent and could wind up a good player for us. Definitely feel he is more talented than a lot of depth we’ve had the last few years.

In fairness, at least he executes i.e. he gets the deals done.

No use being Captain Scrooge only to see some rival club land the player we wanted.

We're probably seen as being a reasonable club to deal with too, which has its benefits.

Coached in 2018 by his U18 coach whom he excelled with - Plapp in the Demons midfield. I like it. Is he better at the same age than Kane Lambert? That's the comparison I'm looking at.

Really?  How do you judge that his negotiating skills are horrible when you have NO IDEA what his desired outcome, or minimal negotiating position, actually is?  It is not life and death, FMD!  He is not a hostage negotiator.  I would prefer that the Dees are known as decent to deal with - the first step in building trust to establishing a frame for negotiation.

you slag him off and have not one f’ing clue.

I dont know how you can pass such a harsh judgement without having intimate knowledge of the negotiations.

So you eithet have no idea or are just bitter.

In your analysis have you considered any of the following other factors?

Ports position

Jacks position Jacks management position? Because jacks manger also manages orher key mfc players

Continued good relationship with Jack and his management?

The ability ti get the Deal done? How many trades are in limbo due to poor negotiations at other clubs?

I know you haven't and this conversation is a waste of time. Your position and arguement on Mahoney shows you have no idea.

End

Agree. Look at the news on the gibbs trade.

Id rather Mahonet who gets the job done then squabble over late picks.

Seems a waste

Ive been harsh to a few on this thread but people need to move on from crap they don't agree with and don't understand.

And anyone who thinks it's only Mahoneys decision alone also falls in to that boat above as being dumb

He played 5 more games for Freo than Michie!

Love where he keeps the ball alive by bumping his opponent over the line the gathering the ball and firing off a quick handless to a teammate. Also love how he smothered the ball over the line to lock it in their forward line and prevent the rebound. He's got footy smarts and goes when it's his turn.

Hits too many targets for my liking

Lol, in that clip he certainly did.

Not a bad goal either against us, just trying to determine if it was his nifty footwork or the magnificent attempt to tackle him that created that goal.

Can someone direct me to the "GET EXCITED HARLEY BALIC" video on afl.com?

I saw it.

It's a video of his mum with Josh Mahoney in a headlock at the trade table.

I think he will be ok. He has had a horror start to his career, but from what I have heard from my mates in Perth he can seriously play. Happy to have him on board!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
