Pity because I always thought Kent was a handy player. Hopefully he can get back to good form.

I don't think Balic has much hope of becoming a decent player.
Average skills, slow as a wet week and no damaging traits.

Brayshaw Self sums it up nicely.

He has no damaging qualities. They may play different roles, but Balic's outside influence makes Tyson's inside influence look like it's the best in the league. He has had little to no influence in any game he has played. He reminds me of Hayden Crozier in that he is neither a good nor bad player, but rather a nothing player as he has zero influence on a game.

@ChaserJ or @Pennant St Dee are good observers of junior footy and 'Pennant' may know something about the WA side of things.

My memory is he looked a pretty smart footballer and was another one from a basketball background...he seemed to have a bit of upside.

...but there must be a reason he slipped back.

Was good in close, but kicking lacked penetration from recollection. Also didn't show a lot of pace in his age 18 year and was hit by injury post champs (which led to him missing a fair amount of footy in his first year at the Dockers I believe).

Very good overhead and a very good decision maker in tight, but feel that he would be more of a depth addition than anything else.

Is the last player we need.

Doesn't possess anything we don't already have.

Is exactly the player we would have gone for during the early post-Neeld era.

Watch Richmond pay overs for him.

"Doesn't possess anything we need" or "we have too much of that type" are the biggest cop-outs I read on here.

Steve you stated the same thing regarding the previous proposal for Tom Mitchell (and he's killing it if you haven't noticed).

Are we or are we not trying to build a team worthy of winning a premiership?

If YES, then we have two major windows approaching. The first includes Vince, Lewis, Pedersen, and Jones, while the second does not due to their respective ages and forthcoming retirements. It will be led by our young-bloods coming through. Thus, we will need to find replacements for the above players, while also continuing to generate depth.

This will be done via a combination of developing our current crop, as well as drafting and recruitment. To maximise success we need to make the best use of all our draft pick assets (especially the late ones where Balic fits the bill).

I'm not proposing Balic as the next ball magnet like Tom Mitchell or Clayton Oliver, but from what I saw he was impressive.

He's certainly no worse than our own Stretch, ANB, Bugg, Harmes, and even Brayshaw, and he's certainly better than those at the bottom of our list.

Consistent with the fact he averaged 31 possessions as a 19 year old in the WAFL last year makes him a very promising long-term prospect.

Not saying you are right or wrong 'ignition' but I wouldn't be using WAFL stats to back the argument 'ignition'...Viv Michie killed it at this level but couldn't step up.

It was a tongue in cheek comment made by his dad. I remember the article headline thinking how crazy this story is but in reading it in full his dad was having a laugh.

Typical wannabe headline grabbing propaganda

If Kent continues to not get selected he may opt to head home and whether it is Balic or someone else, it opens up possibilities.

Kent for Balic now?

Who knows?

There will be trades done and Kent could be part of one. For example if we were after Lever,  we might trade a player like Kent to get something and then add that to our first pick as an offer.

I am sure we will target someone and we now are a " destination club" as the phrase goes.

rjay - your use of quotation marks for usernames read like scare-quotes and blanket everything in a strange suspicious tone, like you don't trust that ignition's name is really ignition and you want to convey that you're not fooled by the deception.

Do you believe Ignition is his/her name? Looks like a sensible attempt to identify who is being responded to.

Yes, because I'm sure if I don't put 'Tram 74' in quote marks people with will think I'm responding to Saty.

Balic appears to have squandered his chance at an AFL career. Once upon a time we had list spots and time to take a gamble on a player like Balic. Nowadays we are looking at consolidating the list. Unless balic can push for selection at freo and showcase his skills, i can't see us taking a punt on him.

Just a habit from when I started on the site 'Skuit'...

Not all in the world in sinister or evil and I know many look for hidden meaning.

Real name, unreal name or somewhere in between.

In this case just accept it for what it is. My little foible,

Squandered what? He's 20 years old, in his second year of footy, dealing with a personal issue that seemingly is best dealt with back in his family home - not unusual for a 20 year old - and has had injuries. After 2 games in the WAFL he broke in to Freo's side.

List spots - Spencer, Kennedy, Trengove, Garland, Lumumba, Kent, Hulett, possibly Vince don't worry we've got plenty.

No idea if we want him or if he'd mentally or physically get the all clear, but he was going to be a higher pick before a nasty wrist injury, he's got midfield ball winning combined with forward line craft, I'd be very surprised if his career was done and I'd be surprised if we weren't interested if he was free to a good home (which I also doubt would be true).

will be back in victoria next season apparently, and we are allegedly keen-ish

i personally fail to see the appeal - not quick, disposal looks iffy, and if an interstate move is too hard to contemplate him working hard on and off the track, his desire to make it as a top-level afl player must be questioned

IIRC Balic trained with us in preseason as an underage player, so we'd have a goodbye earn on him.

I think we could better, even with a late pick.

Worth a look IMO. We would get him cheap, would he be any better/worse than a 3rd/4th round smokey in the draft?

Id rather let Jason Taylor use the pick and find one of his smokeys.

Balic will give us nothing.

I see another Pat Mckenna unfortunately, no thanks.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
