Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My memory might be hazy, but did we really let Frawley and Howe go, or did they decide to leave?  I know that we netted pick #3 for Frawley when he left, but I can recall us trying to re-sign him throughout the year.  Howe wanted out so there wasn't a whole lot we could do there.

As I recall it Roos switched Frawley fwd, to settle a new defence, as soon as he realised Frawley wasn't putting in the effort (see 2014, round 2 vs WCE) much like Clarkson did with Buddy(played him up the ground).  I don't recall discussion of an mfc offer.  I recall he went to WA to talk to Freo.

My memory was that Roos played him forward for the entire year...not to test others out, but to ensure our back line could learn to play without him... it was so effing obvious from round 3....

You're possibly right.  I think I've blocked a few years from my memory.

Today proved and showed today why its important to have genuine high talent defenders.

McGovern and Barrass won them the game today.

Their mids stood up too. That cannot be underplayed.

Is May an elite defender though? Happy to have him, but he's certainly (for me) not in the same class as McGovern.

He's very good.  How many McGoverns do you think there are ?

Also, how do you think McGovern would have fared playing for years in Gold Coasts defence ?

But, as usual, players at other clubs are crap, and players at Melbourne are great.  Is that how it works ?

Why May???

We have two very good key backs and Lever is back in 2019

we need outside pace

we need a Kelly Shiel or Gaff

now one is gettable

Well, if you're right then the MFC won't chase May.

But of course, you're not right, are you ?  Are you ever ?

That's not what I said at all. But you intimated May was elite and I disagree. That's all.

Elite, very good - they're just words.

He's far better than what we have.  He'd immediately be our best key defender.  Nothing to sneeze at.

Jetta  McDonald  Lever

Salem  May  Hibberd

Looks pretty good to me.

They are just words, but they do have relevance to the conversation, otherwise we'd use different words.

He's a good player and would make us better. And I'd agree he'd be ahead of Lever as best one-on-one defender, but I'd argue Lever is the better player for his role. But, it's about them complimenting each other and improving our list. May is certainly a better player than OMac or Frost, so we've got a significant upgrade there.

Sounds like he's coming, which is great news.

FWIW, I'd play May deeper and get OMac at CHF, but agree with the rest.

May is a decent upgrade on OMAC and Frost and we need it. Lever coming back will start to look half decent, just hoping we can shuffle Lewis out of there also.

I think you'll find Lewis and Jones will be competing for the same spot next season.

Interesting that Salem, May and Hibberd are all left footers. We've really gone hard for those left footers in recent year. They're coming out of our ears these days.

I'm a left footer, and my father always said it was an advantage in my junior days... (which was true, in the way you naturally turn) alas i am late 30's and like a drink :(

Firstly, I would not trade for May. I would prefer to keep Frost and O Mac. We will have Lever back next season and we should be looking at another key backman that won’t cost the world...

If the Dees receive Picks 5 & 6 from Freo for Hogan. Gold Coast will receive say Pick 6  for May. This is definitely way overs in my book. If this was to happen I believe we have to get Pick 18 from GC also...

May & Pick 18 = Pick 6

Collingwood who are also interested in May have Pick 17.

I'd be OK with that scenario, P5 & 6 for Hogan.

Then P6 & our 2ndRnd pick to GCS's,  for May, P18 &  Kolidasnij.

When I said key defender I wasn't including Lever, who I see as the intercept king.  Lever is our no.1 defender and May would be no.2.  As good as Lever is I don't see a flag if we have to rely on McDonald, Frost or Petty.  But I do with May.  It changes everything.

Oscar isn't quick and has always played the FB role.  May is quick, so I named him at CHB.

But I'm not fussed, as they all rotate their opponents.

I was a left footer too. My old man always said my height would be handy. Haha. It was in the under 12s. ;)

Just a quick reminder that Oscar and Frost will not be premiership defenders in the same side.

I agree, but I don't think it helps when your midfield goes missing (ie last week).

Thanks for the info Jane. I must admit I don’t understand the need.

Trading May in will require us to spend a fair bit of the capital we get from any Hogan trade, in terms of salary cap and picks, on yet another key defender (Lever, Frost, O Mac, Petty, Keilty)

Yes May would improve our back six to a degree but at significant cost.

Oscar is very young for the main man back. not strong enough yet.

Lever is not a Key Tall Back, but moreso the 3rd tall intercept.  and has had 2 Knee Reco's.

Frost is a risky limited backman.

Petty and Keilty are both Kids, so far as big Defenders go.

So IMO, May is ideally placed for us, Re his maturity, experience & age bracket.  It covers the other defenders on our list fairdeewell.

Can he juggle a nice French brie with his wineglass of Grange 68? Does he have his Range Rover Sports V8 parked in the Members? If not, too bad. He fits the bill perfectly.

We have to put these sentiments aside; Ray Biffen wasn't pretty, either. But hell, he could rough 'em up well for a few years there.

Frosty is aware of his style and weaknesses, and has improved 3 of these in just a couple of months. With a good pre-season, I'd reckon that the FD can sort him out, just fine. Frosty is a playmaker, and a very big asset down back that will turn the final two corners with focussed coaching. It would appear that he will achieve this heightened mastery in quick time, too.

Oscar no, Frost yes.

I dont and never have rated Oscar, i dont see what he adds to the side besides being tall. May brings experience and a hardened body down back. Today he would have taken Kennedy and i would backed him in to get the job done.

Frost at least has elite speed and dash that we desperately need put of our backline. May and Lever qould cover him for his disposal and skill.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
