We have Riewoldt and Lynch in two weeks, just our luck to lose May.

It’s a huge loss if he misses weeks.  Petty and Tomlinson get to have the crack at Lynch.  Daw might be double back up option.

I would rather sacrifice Tmac to cover May till he returns with Daw coming in to play CHF/chop out ruck

I'm not trying to be smart here but did you watch it from a few angles?

He hand balls the ball at waist height, why was there a need to elevate his left arm anywhere near his head with sufficient force to fracture his eye socket? If he was trying to break his fall for a potential tackle his arm would have gone downwards to limit the impact.

Tom has a history of this [censored]. He is a dirty player and IMO he took an opportunity to give one to May here. It just all doesn't add up why his arm goes up, and seems to accelerate towards May.

As much as it troubles me to defend Geelong, Hawkins had possession of the ball and was during a handball action when the contact was made. It would be a very slippery slope to be suspended under such a scenario.

Goodwin ruled this out in post match press conference. I reckon it is something to do with a) Tom's kicking b) Tom's kicking and C) Tom's kicking.

Didn't look good at all on the replay. Fortunately the AFL.com.au opinion editors cleared it.

I'm with you GCD. The trajectory of the arm in the second motion is very dodgey imo

Concussion is not the issue. It’s likely a broken cheek and/or sunken eye socket. He’ll be out for a while I think unfortunately.

Yep if as bad as seems try 6-8 weeks

I am reminded of Steven King’s wild boot swing at a loose ball back in 2005?, you know the boot that rearranged Jeff White’s face and he needed substantial facial reconstruction. That was deemed accidental, could happen to anyone! Well we all know it was reckless, high contact and severe impact and should have incurred several weeks suspension. Now we have Hawkins who does dish out a lot of damage because he is so big and strong. I would like the AFL to at least have a good look at this one. Throwing your arms around indiscriminately doesn’t mean you aren’t responsible for the outcome of your actions!

That's where a coach comes in and instructs to play to his strengths and away from his weaknesses Chook.  It's called playing a role and staying within your strengths / capabilities / team game style and disciplines / structure.

It's only when you step outside that and try to do too much you start trying to do things that are beyond your abilities and it ends up costing the team.  He can cover that spot in the short term till May gets back, provided he plays to those instructions.

The alternative option... bring an alternate in to cover, say Petty, allowing Tmac to continue in his present role?

A) Tom's kicking. B) Tom's limited lateral mobility. C) Tom's marking runs very hot and cold. D-Z) Tom's kicking.

He's a forward and will stay in the side until Brown and/or Weid have earned their spots. After that we might try him on a wing where his tank creates mismatches, but not the backline.

The lack of suspension to King will annoy me forever because there's just no reason to throw a boot above waist high, was beyond reckless.

I think there's enough benefit of the doubt in this one because Hawkins is legitimately handballing and May is dragging him down in the tackle.

The MRO seems to only issue penalties or statements that incidents were assessed. I wonder if they can go somewhere between on this one and offer some kind of official caution.

Let’s hope against hope it’s not that bad but I think from the presser Goodie had some idea it wasn’t good news. At least once it settles down he should be able to keep up fitness levels etc with no contact to the head but have no idea what this type of injury means in terms of rehab

Apparently broken orbital bone ..2-4months

Where was this said, out of interest?

Robertson was speaking to Lever on the ground after the game and said it was just a cut, he's off at hospital getting stitches and will be fine.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
