Jack Riewoldt leaving? What is the relevance to Hogan if I may ask? A trade?

I suspect WODF that you misses the ironic inflection in the poster's voice.

Hopefully he'll be having a week off after the pies game before finals. I suspect they might have wanted him to have a couple of games then a break rather than one on one off

Possibly not the best word to use in this context - perhaps time off, or rest would be better ?

However, we need to trust the club Doc's and fitness staff.

No we don't need to trust them anymore. Viney, Gawn, Salem and Watts all came back too early.

Yes. It's not related to the planter fascia that was operated on according to Mahoney..

Would love to know whether the current injury was caused by Viney compensating for his original injury. Too much of a co-incidence for mine

Yep. Viney did come back to early whether reinjured or not. Played 1 good game since back. Love him for trying though

Hogan is arguably the most valuable player on our list. I'm beginning to believe we play worse with him.

i'm not a massive believer in stats but I want to see big numbers from Hogan if he comes back in tackles and pressure stats.

I feel your pain bro. Get better soon. I broke my collarbone (+ ribs + vertebrae) in a cycling accident some years ago.

And my son broke his collarbone 2 weeks ago. (Football injury.)

Tip. Maybe give away the motorbike??

A myth

Round 1 -   30 pt Win v Saints - Hogan 21 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals

Round 2 -   22 pt Win v Blues -  Hogan 22 disposals, 10 marks

Suspended

Round 5 - 11 point loss to Tigers - Hogan 11 disposals, 3 goals - Tigers only beat us as we were two men down

Jesses father passes away

Round 7 -  3 point loss to Hawks -  Hogan  16 disposals, 4 marks, 3 goals

Diagnosed with his illness

Round 16  -  18 point win vs Blues - Hogan  10 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal

Round 17  -  46 point loss to Crows - Hogan  11 disposals, 7 marks

Round 18  -  23 point win vs Power - Hogan  23 disposals, 5 marks, 3 goals

Round 19 -  4 point loss vs North - Hogan  11 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal - injured during game

Hes played 8 games, our record is 4-4. THe RIchmond loss was unlucky, and we would have beat North if he didnt get injured.

He was dominant in 3 games. He started strong vs Kangas before breaking collarbone.

He was understandably rusty for a couple of games coming back from his illness.

Hes had the most interrupted season you will ever see from any player for so many different reasons.

We are much better when hes in the team and you're right, he is incredibly valuable.

Good post. I can't remember a season where one player gets floored and has to get up again so many times over. Talk about the year from hell. He hasn't had any real chance to get going, but has still been alright, and has shown glimpses of his best.

Fitting that this week, he plays game 50 on his third comeback for the year. He gets so much focus that it feels like it should be 150, but it's a reminder that he's still only just getting started. It won't be long before he finally does actually get a decent run at it and will remind people how good he is.

A really good post.

I think the myth that we could be better off Hogan is that all our most momentous wins of late have in Jesse-free sides; Vs Geelong in Geelong, Vs Hawks at the G and then this year Vs Crows in Adelaide and Eagles over in the West.

Good post.

I think there is more to it than his stats alone. But just on these, the timing of his worst games (Richmond, Hawthorn, Carlton 2, Adelaide) becomes quite marked.

He was also building into really solid form before the collarbone. His game against Port was really important and he set up our first half lead with the football he excels at. I hope he's able to recapture that today.

This guy. Lost his Dad this year, fought Testicular cancer, back 2 weeks after breaking his collarbone.... amazing!

Jesse Hogan!  Everyone who has doubted him or wanted to trade him, hang your head.

All year he’s been Resilient and Courageous.

Today he was Inspirational.  A terrific 50th game from him.  Virtually won the game from his own boot.

6 goals.  Welcome back, Jesse.

Absolutely amazing comeback three weeks after a broken clavicle. Just amazing.

You were saying?

One of the best "return from injury" games i have ever seen

busted collarbone 3 weeks ago...

thankyou Jesse...

I felt like he moved as well as I've seen him in 2 years today. He just looked fit, and he ran at the ball carrier a lot.

His kicking was incredible too. He didn't look like missing.

Just to give it some perspective Daniher has played 70 odd games straight for Essendon. If Jesse does that for us we will win a flag and he'll win a Coleman.

He had confidence in leading up at the ball carrier, he had confidence when it hit the ground, and he had confidence in his set shot routine (20 steps every time).

A reminder to the competition what he is capable of.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
