I remember a game vs Hawthorn in about 2009/10, just as they were hitting their straps. We went in ahead at half-time, but when I saw the Hawks walk slowly out of the race and right through the Melbourne players at the start of the second half, I knew we were about to get bullied!

Two scenarios for me:

1. If we play like we did against the Crows, we win comfortably ..... full stop!.
2. If we have a 'Melbourne off-day', I'm very confident that we will be competitive for at least 3 quarters.  The big question here is 'will this be enough?'

I lean towards scenario 1, but I'm uneasy that scenario 2 may raise it's ugly head.

Haha i saw that, take a look at this one too, apparently losing by 3 points is "crumbling" and the dewy weather should give them the edge.

 

People have short memories in footy. The Dees are favourites because of a systematic dismantling of Adelaide whilst we crumbled to a bottom four side. Yet a fortnight ago we systematically dismantled Adelaide and they crumbled to a bottom four side.

Yes, their midfield is playing attractively but our forward and backline are too big for them. We have a ruck dominance all over the ground meaning we should always be first to the ball at stoppages. Send Gibson to Oliver to sit in his back pocket.

The weather is vital. If it stays as forecast it'll be a bit dewy but we should be able to win the game in the air.

And that garbage from Goodwin about how some players aren't affected by the losing streak... 90% of that organisation don't even know the feeling of winning against North. We'll be in their heads on that.

A dewy ball is NOT won in the air. It's won on the ground.

In fairness, I think the poster meant 'it could be a bit dewy, (however) we should still be able to win it in the air'. In even greater fairness, if I was a North supporter I would be arguing all the exact same points. I've been concerned about our lack of height going into recent games. We know we're up against it with our ruck issues and worry about top-line ruckmen getting a hold of us. There is an expectation that Oliver will tagged soon enough and it remains to be seen if he can shake a hard one. And our form-line over the past fortnight is equivalent to theirs. 

Dees by 48 points.

Bottom line for me. We need to bring it. We played 3 quarters and a half last week, and it that half of a quarter we got scored against heavily. It was an absolute credit to the boys that they were able to arrest the momentum at a hostile venue and stay in touching distance at half time. 

But North did manage to get a massive jump on the crows in their game, hit them hard from the first bounce, they can try their tactics against Oliver all they want he won't take a backward step. I know it's an obvious statement but if our mids win and prevent them from giving good delivery to their forwards, we will win.

Not gonna lie, the heart palpitations are telling me my MFCSS might be creeping back just a little.

Weird

Norths only advantage will be height.  Hawks spud Obrien was used on the wing as a link man taking ( I think) 10 marks.  We simply have to make each aerial ball to a tall target contested.  Then it is advantage us.  On the same token, we have to be  careful of their rucks cruising forward and marking uncontested to kick goals.

height should be the only way they can beat us.  If they win on effort, I will spew.

O Brien was used to annoying effect.

We can be just as competitive as anyone...but have to stop competing with ourselves !!

Last weekend was the best I've seen Melbourne play for a very long time and I think it set a new standard of what we should expect from this team. 

I hear what you're saying - we are on the way up, but there will always be 'highs and lows'. But if we are to keep heading in the right direction, you need those 'breakout games'. Some wins are worth a lot more than the 4 points.

This scenario is a carbon copy of the Hawks game.

Going in against a long-term finalist who is having a "down" year, and that has bullied the club for 10 years.

On our home turf.

Outright favourites.

We're coming off a big win, opposition coming off a big loss.

Must win. No excuses.

Why wasn't last years Hawks game "the game"? Or the previous year against the Cats. I mean, the Hawks were ladder leaders and it was the end of the season, not early like the Crows. 

And if we lose tomorrow is it still "the game"?  

I went into the Hawthorn game with a bad feeling & it come to fruition & I went into the Adelaide game with confidence & was proven right both times... Unfortunately I have the same feeling about tomorrow's game as I do the Hawthorn one. It's been a big week for the club with the Hogan news & there is always the let down after such an emotional charged win like Adelaide.. 

For me tomorrows game is as big as last weeks, last week we had nothing to lose.. played with freedom, which is why I thought we'd win, we will know if this club has flicked the switch with how we play tomorrow, in all reality we should take last weeks form into North & steam roll them but I've been burnt too many times to believe that will happen..

My head says North by 8 points (Hope I'm wrong) 

My heart says Dees by 41 points
