Adzman 2,154 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Lewis has been ok so far. My concern is that I can't see him playing out that 3 year contract in the 1s. He is an automatic selection this season, but with a fit and developing list he is going to be pushed for games next season. As for the season after....he will be like Garland. On the list but playing in the twos as depth to cover injuries. 1 Quote
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 If he can work on minimising a few costly turnovers and brain explosions, such as the stupid 50 or dumb push to Petrie, he'd be an outstanding pick up. Still very valuable, especially for the experience he brings, just prone to some poor decisions at times. Will be interesting to see if he's worth it in the final year of his contract. 1 Quote
John Crow Batty 8,892 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 I think the kind of marshalling and leadership he brings is something that's been sorely lacking for over over a decade. For that reason alone he has been invaluable. 2 Quote
beelzebub 23,392 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Lewis does a lot of the little things that aren't on stat sheets. We seem better with him. Enough for mine. 5 Quote
rpfc 29,026 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Fumbly contributions but was in everything. I thought a number of our boys were fumbly and nervous around the footy - Hunt, Salem, Tyson, and a couple others. Brave win considering all that we didn't have going for us - but Lewis contributed. danielE288 781 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Kane Cornes just tore into him on the Sunday footy show. Bit rich from a pea heart like him. Quote
dpositive 1,838 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Don't know why Cornes chooses one isolated act. I guess that's what he's paid to do. Im happy with Lewis. But more importantly I reckon Goodwin may have more knowledge than both of us. Quote

Sad really. In saying that, Jordan does need to wipe out those small ill-disciplined acts from his game, as they could cost us wins if he keeps it up. Quote
Sir Why You Little 37,457 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Jordan earnt his pay last night. He was never far from the ball. Workman like yes, but we are a far more aggressive and desperate side with him out there. 4 Quote
1964nowMORE 493 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I know someone who did quite a lot of leadership work at Melbourne this pre season. He does a lot of this work in sporting team, not just AFL. His advice was back in February if picking a Captain Lewis was miles in front of others and one of the best astute leadership candidates he had ever seen. happy to have him as a Demon. 6 Quote
dino rover 714 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 He had some key touches at the end but this wasn't a good game for Lewis. He wasnt the only one down yesterday but we win nevertheless. He is mostly an outside mid who sits off the play while the Olivers, Tysons and Vineys get it out.He then distributes. He is also that spare man sometimes at half back. His link kicking / handball is pretty good but his ability to impact enough contests is limited - by speed and endurance relative to younger players. I get his "leadership" and structuring (? - getting the zone in place I suppose) but wonder what we give up for that element that can be provided by other leaders and players. Quote

Going against the grain here then I guess, but I think some of his work in tight to get the ball out of the contest has been excellent. 2 Quote
martin 727 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 This is obviously becoming a tedious weekly ritual re the discussion around Lewis. Let's remember he is virtually a free agent and receiving a salary not that much more than, what is now,the AFL average. He has performed as most have expected-high possessions, inside and a calming influence. None of us can measure the leadership qualities he brings.I suspect excellent.Over & out on this repetitive topic from me. 1 Quote
billyblanks29 184 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Don't forget our winning ratio with Lewis in the side vs out. It's something like 80% vs 20%. That my friends, should be all that matters. 5 Quote
Pates 9,697 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I felt that 50m penalty, while silly, was extremely soft and when people talk about Oliver taking a dive they should take a good hard look at how others fall easily from contact after marks. He didn't have a good overall night but he was important in the final quarter. 4 Quote
Canplay 635 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Blokes walk taller with Lewis by their side. 5 Quote

DubDee 26,674 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Played 10 games for us, we've won 8. No coincidence. The blokes a winner and we are a significantly better team when he plays 5 Quote
old55 23,860 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Lewis was involved in many important handball chains (no way ring a rosy). On the other hand he fumbled, fell over, didn't put his head over it at least once and gave away a stupid 50. It's a fascinating mix of gòod and bad. He marked the last play inside defensive 50. Critics like TGR and BB will say "coincidence". Happy coincidence. Edited June 25, 2017 by Fifty-5 Quote
Earl Hood 6,167 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Just watched the replay and JL had a lot of slick handballs in traffic I didn't notice last night live. Cane Cornes had a point but it's not a big deal. Quote
buck_nekkid 6,101 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 MFC knew what they were getting. Was almost the steal of the draft. Three years but doubt he is expected to play in the firsts for more than 1 1/2. Worth that to secure him. Week to week, like most players, his performance will vary. However, I am happy we got him, and watching him direct and structure on the field, hop in and distribute, and still put his body into contests, think we are getting value. compare what he brings compared to H..... 4 Quote
Willmoy1947 4,261 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Cannot do a connection, other than what has been visible, but i think ANB and particularly Dom Tyson are tougher at the contest because of JL's presence. Overall the improvement at the bounce, in my opinion has just got better/harder every week for four consecutive weeks even with Chunk missing this week. Quote
