Harsh on Smith, ideally when someone debuts they should get 2 games in a row especially after a quiet first one which can be attributed to nerves.

Weideman is obviously talented but with the VFL starting this weekend for Casey I think he could use a run there with Pedo providing a bigger body option with absence of Hogan.

Frost is a beast of an athlete so I think that played a part in the decision. 

Dont get the 'I feel for Smith' crowd. He played his first game, was just ok and was dropped. He'll learn from it and be back. All part of the journey

Very hard on Smith, one game then the chop. While the Wied doesnt clunk em, doesnt kick em, doesnt tap em.

I wanted Frost and Spencer in last week as I thought we were slightly  inexperienced and a tad short prior.Perhaps we should have won anyway.Given the missed shots.

Goody obviously doesn't know how to coach and select as well as me but that's ok, nobody is a knowledgeable about football or virtually anything else as I am.

Weideman survived another week as Hogan is out of the side.  He's horribly out of form but you get the feeling that the FD rate him highly and want to get games into him as quickly as possible.  The Freo backline isn't all that flash so they may be hoping he can play himself back into a little form.  If we can get 3-4 goals out of him this weekend we go a long way to winning the game.

It'd also be a PB for Weeds. Can't see him kicking that many. I'll take two.

For once Nash I agree, think it is not about Oscar's ability, think his confidence has taken a hit coming up against big bodies in Casboult and Hawkins and FD don't want any long term scarring and sent him back

Still believe though that you have to play on AFL forwards to get the experience

Bugg's in has me puzzled but in Goody we trust

It's a shame Weid isn't lining up for Freo this week. We could have kept O Mac in the team lined them up on eack other and they would have just cancelled each other out.

They'll both be players but neither are AFL standard yet.

I maintain that I read somewhere during the preseason that Omac and Frost were competing directly for a spot (I'm pretty sure it was from an official source but someone could well have made it up on here). But if that is the case, it may be as simple as Omac having been given a block of games, and now that Frost is fit it's his turn to see who suits up best.

These days, players are rarely beaten through body on body contact. If a defender is smart enough and mobile enough, he can work the angles to make a spoil. And there are generally teammates within the defensive zone to assist. O Mac still needs to learn the game, and that's best done at VFL level.

I suspect it's a fine tuning thing, I like oscar as a player but I am sure the coaches have some areas they want him to tidy up and Casey may be he best place to do that

Bit worried with this line up. With Smith out and if one of Watts or Spencer go down we're gonna be massively exposed up forward.

Re: being harsh on Smith: being left out of the side doesn't have to be taken personally. Maybe they've backed in Weid as their main tall and wanted to go smaller, and have added in a player who, while by no means a perfect player, is known for his ability to pressure and become a danger on the scoreboard. It may be that once they moved Watts out, they saw that the forward line was far too inexperienced.  Bugg obviously isn't a key forward, but he's an 83 game player compared to Smith's 1, it's a huge difference.  There are a heap of justifiable reasons that don't involve it being any criticism on Smith.

If the message is delivered right, Smith will go back to the VFL itching to prove himself ready for the next attempt.  I really doubt, given where he's come from and the path he took to get on the list, that he's going to crack the sads from being left out.

It's not just that OMac lost against the bigger bodies. Last week, he was shifted off Hawkins and onto Menzel who slaughtered him.

I quite like Bugg, he was a solid contributor for us last season and I can see him holding his spot in the team.

Frost for Oscar - I get that

Now I like The Bug but it leaves us lacking grunt and marking power up forward. Watts will be sharing ruck duties and unless Weid plays a blinder we will struggle.

Unless a late change occurs, Occy (thought I'd keep up the obscure reference to Oscar) comes back in with Frost up fwd and goes up as second ruck option (where he has shown little aptitude).

Lets hope they get lots of room at our home ground. Nothing as exciting as watching Garlett getting one "over the top" and burning off his opponent.

Although his effort towards the end of the last season dropped off a little he has been a great addition. He plays tall for his size and uses what body mass and strength he has very well. Hope he kicks at least five.

Big Max just declared Spencil to be similar in style to Mumford as a ruck and said he'd do fine.  Hope he's right.

Smith would have to feel a bit aggrieved - had a better game than Weideman, dropped after one debut where he kicked a goal, presented and was forced to play second ruck. I would've kept him in and dropped Weed for Pedersen instead, not sure we need Bugg unless Vince is unlikely to play which may force someone else to half back.

Going in with Weed & Watts as our key forward is interesting
