Sen trade talk just said clubs are making a point of not trading their first pic for next yrs draft but melb have.

Time will tell if this is the right decision but I have concerns we have paid overs

Good call, all part of the brand, well done MFC. This also potentially sends a message to future recruits (Sloane anyone?). Just hoping Viney Snr takes Sloane out for a beer with Bernie over the summer to touch base ;)

If the word in other threads is true, and we are stretched salary cap wise, then you can forget about going after a Sloane, who would be worth huge coin, unless we had high profile departures.

We get deals done every single year because we are good to deal with! There is a lot to be said for being a fair and transparent club to deal with, it makes life a lot easier for us and encourages players to nominate us, as they know we can get a deal done.

We didn't pay over and we didn't pay under, we paid market value for a gun 21 year old.
Would you want less if Hogan was to leave? Trac? Oliver? No, we would want more.
Lever is in the same class.

Spot on Jaded.

Lots of posters are disappointed we didn't bend Adelaide over after Lever nominated us. That is short sited.

Whilst we trade fairly it encourages clubs to deal with us and players to nominate us.

Our competitive edge needs to come from culture, drafting, fitness and coaching.

2 first round picks for a defender??? Hate to see what a good forward is going for these days

Well... Tom Boyd was $1m a year Buddy was a big 10y deal. Thats for a start. Wait till Tom Lynch says hes leaving GC then you'll see how desperate clubs are to secure a key fwd...

What's that bad taste in my mouth?

Oh yeah it's Brett 'the Birdman' Burton reaming it down our throats.

Lever isn't a one on one defender. The hope will be the game shifts to 1 key forward and his intercepting and rebound becomes increasingly valuable. Time will tell.

We definitely bent over but I would've been more disappointed if we didn't get Lever at all so I'm happy with it. Adelaide are now my most hated team though. The way they acted in this off-season plus their pathetic effort against the eagles which kicked us out of the finals.

Can’t understand the complaining about what we coulda and shoulda done re the Jake Lever trade.  Unless you were in the room during the negotiations any comment is baseless. The bottom line is that we got him. That’s all that matters.

i reckon some of you blokes are the type to disappear into the pub sh!tters when your shout comes around.

I was hoping it was bs, as we have lots of young talent who will be looking for a pay rise in the next few years.

We are certainly in "go for broke" mode now. Load up on top tier talent, and have a crack at a flag. Spend every salary cap dollar we have to land people such as Sloane.

Now or never.

Is Frost in it? And your thoughts on not going after Rockliff.

cheers

Yes, Frost is in.

Rockliff is a good extractor, but doesn't have huge hurt factor or pace.  He's not what we need.

Not sure about you DOX but I could care less about next years draft (looks like Footy Dept are in same boat), I care about us making a deep run into finals next year. This helps us do that.

Sources say Lever's preparation and track work are 2nd to none and he will set a great example and standard there.

In my best Trump voice

Happy with the trade for a known quantity.

To those upset with what we handed over, would suggest waiting till the end of the trade period before giving your final assessment.

You only need to go back as far as 2015 to see why.

Remember that trade period when we handed over 25 very early in the trade period for Melksham? Remember how ropable everyone was at the time?

Subsequent schrewd moves after that turned our first round pick into two first round picks which we used to get Oliver &  Weideman

In Mahoney I trust!

MFC speaks a good game but just can't negotiate. Lever did all the leg work, and put us in a strong position at the trade table. We just gave away a future first round pick we didn't need to. MFC once again pulling the trigger early. Amateurs.

Interesting comment given you were present for none of the conversations between the clubs with regard to this trade

I don't buy that logic.

We gave up
6, future first and 29

3, 10, 43

The 29 we got for Howe. Making the Melksham deal early in the trade period did nothing for us. We could've done it on the first day or the last day just before the deadline. Essendon were never going to ask for more. They really couldn't. Yet somehow we decided it had to be done to move on to extra business, like we are incapable of doing more than 1 thing at a time.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
