Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

This is the same Brian Waldron who said Lever was going to the Pies.

PS. Sorry Demon 77, didn't see that you had posted this already.

All good Redleg.

From the article regarding Adelaide wanting two first round picks for Lever it mentions that our club was contacted and we refused to comment on the matter hence being tight lipped.

I find it a bit odd we would then make our plans public to a degree in the manner we go about gaining his services.

After a quick read through it seems an old favourite (with a new name) has jumped up with the latest plausible information claiming it to be a scoop and from inside information.

Hmmmmmmmm

Now let me see, we've had the inside running on Lever for a while now & a reliable poster has confirmed that. So lets make that a scoop, use a later media story for reference on the time line.

Gaff's name has been thrown around a bit so lets take a punt on that and if it doesn't come through we can always use the Eagles wouldn't release him from his contract That should do the trick.

Mention a 3rd player, don't know the name despite the inside word. This is a no lose, we are certain to trade someone in so whoever it is can be the unknown 3rd man.

...and if all fails, it's just gossip.

Maybe a new demonlander's inside source is just a demonlander he overheard in a pub who claimed to have an inside source from inside the club but was only reading demonland

Yeah maybe.

Trouble is, at this stage of the season with finals still on (in which Lever & Gaff are still playing), nobody at either club can predict (let alone guarantee) the final outcome. Even if this poster had got their info direct from Todd Viney himself, all they can tell us is the current state of play at Week 2 of the finals.

It's just too easy to be robotically skeptical about every post like this. To me, the scenario this poster put forward is the most plausible statement of both sides' opening negotiating positions that I've yet read anywhere. If it is true, as well as showing a lot of mutual respect, it shows good faith in that we don't intend to underpay for Lever. But we will work hard to preserve the 2018 R1 pick, perhaps to use on Gaff (for whom we also don't want to underpay). This is consistent with what other posters with a more established record have said, but his post goes further by pointing to how we might actually pull it off without selling the farm.

So to me plausible, though of course "plausible" isn't the same as "true". It's possible to take stuff like this at face value and with a grain of salt at the same time - at face value because it fits what we do know, it's plausible and it adds a little bit extra to what we know; and with a grain of salt because it's so early and because it's obvious that there's no way of telling how it will end up. In other words, while I think it's a plausible account of where things might be at this stage, we all know it means little or nothing to the final result (and maybe we will have to sell more of the farm than we'd like to)

Can we just express our doubts without needing to take the poster down?

At least wait to find out if it is WB, it's not that serious... fan forum, enjoy it for what it is.

I never said it wasn't true, Cards.  All I'm saying is that if you put rumours out there as fact, and they don't come through, then you lose your credibility.

I'm quite happy to listen to info from those who have been proven to be in the know.  Others?  Who knows where they get their information from, and until they have been proven right a few times, then I'll remain skeptical.

He would have zero trade value. We seriously overestimate the value of our own players.

Dean Kent is a case in point.  Many here are saying he isn't up to it, yet for some reason West Coast will want him as part of some farcical Gaff trade.  It won't happen.  If Kent were to be traded it would be for a third round pick, at best.

The Australian are saying Gibbbs has told Blues he wants to go to Crows and they have started negotiations and this time will have the Lever compo to get it done. Let's hope last years experience will have softened both of them up for us. Sober all get reasonable deals done. Last year Deledio was a year older than Gibbs is now and GWS gave up this years 1st & 2nd rounders for him. That seems very high  if you compare it to the Dangerfield deal which was a 1st & 2nd rounder plus a chump player. I hope that's the yardstick. If Deledio is for Gibbs who will be 29 in March you could see why Crows would want 2 first  rounders for Lever. I really hope we don't have to give the up.  It would be way overs as far as I'm concerned. The Dangerfield deal seems more realistic. It now we are probably dependent a bit on how reasonable Carlton will be on Gibbs. They are apparently one of thebClubs keen on Steinger and he'd be a good get for them so that might help it all along. Could end up being a 4 way deal.

From the article:

"ADELAIDE ... want two first-round draft picks ...if he seeks a trade back to Victoria".

"Some observers, however — and it is safe to say Melbourne will agree — argue that Lever isn’t worth two first-round choices".

"Another option ...would be to give up two first round picks and receive a decent pick back, or to give up a first rounder and then swap picks".

That is pretty much as @Judd's Granny describes.

The article also says that Coll has dropped out of the race. :)

If a trade doesn't involve a third club there is a fair chance it will be done early in the trade period which starts on October 9 (if he decides to come to us).

I'm starting to get my hopes up!

If he has nominated to come to us then the cows negotiations are some what limited as he is ooc.

If the deal can't be done then he goes into the preseason draft and we get him there like Ball did.

I really hope we stick to our guns on this cause we also need to find outside runners and maybe need to negotiate trades there.

Cows can gf.

I know for a fact that we don't think like that, as the List Managers know very well that what goes round comes round.

The mantra is generally be fair in dealing, though of course at the same time trying to get the best deal, but the key word is "fair".

The clubs that constantly try to screw other clubs are well known.

I think this deal may get done early in trade week, thereby allowing the Crows to deal for Gibbs and others.

I'm with you on this, we have played the cards close to our chest in regards to these matters.

When Waldron states "Hear" most assume it's come from within the club.

Giibs to crows and lever to deed does make a lot of sense though.

It all comes down to the blues now...

Hopefully Silvani overrates some more players he drafted to GWS and ties them into the deal thinking they are winning.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
