Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Haha you clearly dont follow that closely DA

While philly dont have the wins on the board in 16/17. Philly has a very exciting young list with 2 potential ROTYs

Saric is a beast,  Embid is a freak and they will land another Top 5 pick this season in a guard heavy draft.

They remind me of the dees with the talent we have pushing through our team this season.

He was available for 0/3 games due to a quad injury as mentioned in a recent Dave mission article. Most people seem to have missed that one although injury news from the club has been poor recently.

He is playing with Casey this week so hopefully he is fit for round one as St kilda have some dangerous small forwards.

P.S. for all I know he may also be out of favour with the coaches as well.

Link to Misson comments please.  He's not mentioned in the latest Misson interview re this weekend's Casey practice match.

He did play in last week's Casey intraclub when MFC played in Perth so he was availablr then.

Couldn't they end up with two top 5 picks if Lakers don't get top 3 lottery protected, so they can lands say pick 1-3 (their own) and 4-5 (the lowest the Lakers pick can fall?).

Lonzo Ball's dad would be so [censored] if he got picked by an eastern team; he wants his boy in purple and gold.

Could it be that older players with more than 100 games are being deliberately rested ?

Would explain Watts and Jetta who do not need game experience.Did Vincent get rested?

I think our backline under pressure is better with Nev in it.
A few years ago I wouldn't have said that.
I believe he is best 22. He is more consistent than Garlett and most would have him in their best 22.

Those two play in completely different positions and have different roles, so your comparison lacks logic. Or did you mean to say Garland rather than Garlett?

It's not as simple as best 22, more so whose fit and in form, who balances with opposition selection and plays according to Goodwin's game plan, etc. ATM Jetta doesn't appear to tick all these boxes

I happened to get to a training session just before the Dec/Jan break and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of attention and empahsis  reinforced by the coaching staff upon the playing group with regard to prolonged mental hardness and focus, particularly under sustained duress. The conditions were very trying and the sheer intensity impressed upon the playing group by the coaching staff was deliberate and without compromise. One player who particularly was singled out after the session for praise was Clayton Oliver.  I wont go into the reasons as to why other than to suggest they were extremely positive and resonated well with Goodwin, Mooney & McCartney. (care to comment Saty??) Furthermore, during the session he completely toweled Nev and ln a number of competitive sessions. Jetta was completely exposed and for the remainder of the session was damaged (& acting damaged) and needing reassurance from all & sundry.  Nev was exposed and I had not expected to ever see this.

Perhaps the back 6 is not quite as settled for reason?

That's correct. It's only top 3 protected. Lakers have lost 9 of their last 10 and a clearly tanking to maximise their chance of a top 3 pick. The lottery balls will ultimately decide their fate. If Philli get another lottery pick this year they will be scary for a decade.

Lonzo Ball is the NCAA equivalent of Damir Dokic! Guy is a nutcase. His 3 kids can't all end up in LA, so he best shut his mouth. Also, Fultz is the better guard in this year's draft IMO.

Given this is a Jetta thread, I still love him.

Apologies, it's actually Josh Mahoney quoted in this article.

 http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-03-08/vandenberg-to-miss-round-one.mobileapp

"Meanwhile, Neville Jetta is now available for selection after overcoming a quad issue, while Kent (back) will be ready to play either next week or the week after in a VFL practice match.

Jetta was not picked for Thursday night's game against West Coast, but will take the field in a Casey Demons intraclub game at Casey Fields on Friday night.

There will up to 12 senior-listed Demons players running around in that game as the club looks to prepare underdone players for the season ahead.

"'Jetts' has been in full training now for a couple of weeks and it's got to the stage where he's available to play," Mahoney said.

"At this stage, we've got a lot of players who are up and going and have had full pre-seasons but he'll play in an intraclub this week and look to play the following week as well."

Ok so here is a slightly outside the box idea that probably wont happen.

Assuming the FD has decided that Jetta is not a part of their defencive plan A this year (which is not confirmed untill he actually isnt picked in round 1 but the signs arnt good for him). If they decide that one of Kent or Garlett is too underdone to come in, could Jetts play as a defencive forward? Even if it is just a once off. We know that the saints have repeatedly slaughted us on the rebound, his combative pressure in the front half could make a big difference.

They put Tyson straight in for the WC game but not Jetta.  I think there's a message there.

What's he worth to the team - not much when he's not in it.

Was available for 3/3 JLT games and played 0/3 when we were apparently having dress rehearsals. Anyone who has picked him for round 1 fancies themselves as a better coach than Goodwin.

Oh oh..

Jetta's spot in our back six is unquestionable in my eyes.

You need one small lock down and for what he lacks in offensive gut running, he makes up in his agility in close to get around opponents and more often than not makes the correct decisions under pressure. He also makes really effective spoils for such a small defender.

I love his hard edge too.

I certainly feel much more confident in our defensive six when he is part of it. That includes Hibberd.

They help out the McAllovertheplace brothers to no end.

WHy was anyone questioning him?  He would be one of the first half dozen picked each week, he is criminally underrated by the wider AFL  He is by far our best l lockdown defender, and one of the best in the league.

Most ridiculous you reckon?

I compared them to consistency so unsure where I went wrong regardless of what position?
Garlett tends to play a great game every 5 or so weeks.. Which is an area he needed to work on.
.

You cannot compare them purely based on position. Small forward is an opportunistic position, where you are often made to work in close, crowded quarters and usually outnumbered due to opposition dropping an extra back.  Conversely a small back may have the benefit of the extra defender there to help and also the ball coming in hurriedly to the forwards which helps the backs ( small forwards also have the problems of service into the forward line)

I love Jetta's calmness - rarely makes a bad decision and I would have him in my team but comparing him to Gartlett is nonsensical.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
