With so much of the early emphasis at last night's MFC season launch on respect for our country and indigenous heritage, I was a little surprised at the lack of mention of Saturday's game between the Casey Demons and the Central Australian Redtails.

The Redtails have embraced the Right Tracks Program which seems to me to be a truly worthwhile initiative to help young people in communities in the region to progress through life with a focus on helping them find work and also advance through playing sport. I suppose we might never know whether that concept might have helped Liam Jurrah before his life and footy career went awry. Possibly not but perhaps young people in the area will have better opportunities in the future as a result.

There's been very little publicity given to the game which is unfortunate. Firstly, because of the worthwhile aspects described above and secondly, because this game will be the club's first under the Casey Demons banner, a fact which seems to be escaping almost unnoticed.

No publicity about the game anywhere.

Is it still on?

This is an area where I suspect Eddie and the Pies would excel.

If the game involved the Pies Eddie would be everywhere pushing it.

We do not have that sort of President.

the MFC is till in Conservative mode in a number of areas.

It would seem that way.

I haven't seen anything on the MFC or the Casey Demons sites about the game and nothing more recent than the NTFL report from last month.

If there's a team from Central Australia in town to play an historic game tomorrow, it's certainly keeping a low profile.

It maybe too late now but it would have been a good project for Matty Whelan in his new role:  “Add this to our newly drafted Melbourne Football Club RAP, Next Generation Academy focus on Indigenous/Multicultural talent in the south-east of Victoria and Alice Springs, and our established relationship with the Northern Territory, and the role of Indigenous Project Officer was created".   (From mfc press release).

The game is a perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor in those areas underlined.

Opportunity missed.

I suspect that given this is a Casey warm up game, and KC implied there might not be many/if any Dee's in the team that were not promoting it because it's not worth promoting.

It's nice the game is on and we're taking the Redtails through the club, having them meet coaches etc. but there's a good chance if we promoted it like some are saying, then had the guys play who haven't had a run in JLT yet that it could be a very messy 100+ point win. Which goes against what the game is meant to be, to grow the connection between MFC and NT football in general. You don't win many friend handing out floggings.

This is not a good endorsement for the MFC/Casey alignment in its new form. Nothing on either website.

Why would anyone who lives outside the immediate radius of the ground want to go to a game that might or might not be taking place today?

Seems to me that the MFC will have to lift its game where the Casey affiliate is concerned. Virtually no pre game publicity or build up of the tour of a team from its NT region, presumably made up mainly of indigenous people who we were honouring earlier in the week and of the first match under the Casey Demons banner. The team wears the old Casey Scorpions gear (no explanation for that) and you can't get a score beyond half time and no media reports, nothing on the website of the Casey Demons, MFC or anywhere.

The whole thing seems to have gotten lost in the Bermuda Triangle.

Its a joke. I have had the same opinion for a long time that our Website and Marketing is by far the worst in the league.

The redtails played a practice game against Casey yesterday as part of building Demons relationship with the Northern Territory. As part of this the team will get a tour of our facilities and coaching seminar programs with all of our coaches. Now i heard about this through a friend, but many wouldn't have known about this which is [censored] poor effort especially when we are trying to really build a good report in the NT region.

Good work dworship. It looks very much like KC's info was right and that the Casey team was limited to its VFL listed players only. Also, based on the scores, the Redtails ran out of steam after half time.

I've heard some good things about Jai Rout from the Gippsland Power. Looks like Casey's recruiters are maintaining their good work of recent years.

The new jumpers haven't arrived yet. They needed to make 2 whole sets + extras with Caseys sponsors printed on them so of course it's gonna take a while

According to the AFL website we're holding an intraclub Casey Demons match down at Casey Fields on Friday for all of our underdone players.

Friday March 10 at 7.00pm Intraclub at Casey Fields

It says there will be 12 Dees playing, with Neville Jetta probably the main one.

Anyone gonna head down and watch?

Mentioned in this article about AVB's injury ~

Stress fracture rules tough Demon out for 4-6 weeks

"Meanwhile, Neville Jetta is now available for selection after overcoming a quad issue, while Kent (back) will be ready to play either next week or the week after in a VFL practice match.

"Jetta was not picked for Thursday night's game against West Coast, but will take the field in a Casey Demons intraclub game at Casey Fields on Friday night.

"There will up to 12 senior-listed Demons players running around in that game as the club looks to prepare underdone players for the season ahead."

Just had a little shoulder scan at Aami park and popped in for a coffee next door and I see Dion, Hibb, Jeffy, Nev and Shannon Byrnes.

Coming from the bush it's a wonderful surprise. Too shy to speak to the players but had a quick chat with Shannon who said Frosty will be playing tomorrow in the intra club and should be fine come Rd 1

That's good. He certainly has competition for spots this year but i have a lot of time for frosty and reckon he has significant upside. His athleticism, ability to play tall but most of all his pace and ability to run though lines are all super valuable traits in modern footy and our game plan in particular. I would be very surprised if he is not regular in our 22.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
