Has he copped a hard tag yet? If he hasn't I daresay he will be very soon. Has proven to be absolutely crucial to our clearance setup.

If he does Viney, Jones & Tyson will run riot in the middle with Salem, Lewis & Vince to support.

It's great to have a multi-dimensional midfield.

It will be interesting to see how Oliver goes with a tag though. I think he has unique abilities and would just get the ball so it wouldn't matter,

hard to tag someone who is predominately a handballer, and, one of the fastest handballers in the comp. good luck to any tagger

Lot to like about this kid and how he plays the game. Overload of skill and vision, looks to enjoy himself out there and if you watch him when he lines up at centre bounces he is always into his player and giving him a little to think about and go on with. Always a nudge,a bump or a bit of a push but when the ball goes down he is all eyes for the ball.

Another preseason and I can see him being one of the best,if not the best, in the business.

The only thing I fear is that by doing the extraordinary week after week the extraordinary will be accepted and the ordinary.

I have watched replays just concentrating on him to watch how he moves when off the ball and he always just has eyes for the ball and looks to get to where it is going to be. His goal was a good example. He contested the ball and then when the play moves to the boundary he trails the play at a jog. As soon as he saw the opening and that it was his turn he was so decisive.

I've voted for Clarrie's goal about 7 times now. He better get the nomination.

I feel the boys should be on the look out for future rough treatment on him. When a young bloke gets found to be such an important cog of a team it tends to put a target on his back. Be prepared to fly the flag for the young gun!

Got a 'welcome-to-footy' heavy dumping by Hawthorn last year and popped straight back up. Some players you know it's probably not worth roughing up as they can't be distracted or provoked and will respond in the stats column. Kid seems to have a pretty unflappable temperament. The opposition would be better hiding in strategically-placed bins.

Wouldn't be surprised if he has already been designated to be tagged, good luck with that........

He will be borderline untaggable, he is too brilliant inside. And too big.

And a hard tag on him will just free up Viney, Jones, Lewis, Petracca, Tyson, Vince, Salem etc etc....

Have another look at the first bounce on the weekend. Who was the first player to get stuck into Sloane?

He loves that stuff.  Always pushing the opposition at stoppages and giving them so lip, before he gets first hand on the ball to dart out a handball to set up yet another attacking play.

I hope he marries a nice city girl and produces another 6 kids called Chris, Clarence, Carter, Chip, Cooper and Clayton Jr. so we can continue the dynasty for decades to come.

Having watched the highlights again, I'm a little concerned by Clarrie TBH. In the last qrtr he changed handball options (in almost the opposite direction to where he was going) halfway through execution to find Kent in space who went over the top to Hannan for a goal.

Is he human?

That was brilliant.

They had a topic on 360 discussing how "unlikely" it was at the start of the season that Yeo would be leading the Coaches award.

Yeo is playing in his sixth season with 92 games.

Oliver is 7 votes behind Yeo in third place. He's playing in his second season with 21 games.

I couldn't help but think Gerard and Robbo were overlooking the more unlikely event. Yeo might be unlikely. Oliver is defying all logic.

I saw Hodge give him a verbal tirade the other week, while trying to push him down to China. Clarry was enthusiastically responding with a 'is that all your old tuckshop lady arms have got'

Come on, the boy played GVFL seniors as a sixteen year old.  Those guys used to throw the bolts of truck tyres at each other for kicks when I was a kid. The toughness of afl is nothing to this kid. Hodgey is a hawthorn boy and those APS antics are nothing to this kid. Good luck to them trying a tag. He lives that stuff.

Apologies for the self-quotation, but I thought this was pretty amusing in the lead-up to the 2015 draft:

'I went to Bali with Vanders and Dom somewhere around round 21 and just emerged out of the back-end of the West Papuan jungle. I'm nowhere near up to speed, and usually pay little heed to draft prospect propaganda, but the kid appears to spend it before he has it in the best possible way. Seems to read the play a step ahead of normal human beings.'

Ironically, I had no idea who Clayton Oliver was back then and was commenting on Darcy Parish.

This always happens. Triple M gave their 3 votes to Trac on Saturday. IMO he played a good game but  would have been behind Viney, Oliver and Hibberd. Some observers are seduced by 'star' players and even though Trac is not there yet every observer has him marked down for future star.

Oliver by rights should be viewed in the same light and with increasing media focus is likely to be thought of that way.

Petracca is like Bontempelli in that he can have a greater impact on the game with fewer disposals. He may get the ball less but he is more damaging.

There was another passage of play where Oliver was at the bottom of the pack and Hodge was on top of him.  Hodge was giving him a ribbing and Oliver was just lying there with a massive grin on his face.  Clearly loves that stuff.

Jones and Viney will like the sound of that

North don't have anyone worth tagging so I guess Bernie can just hunt the ball!

Higgins balls use going forward and occasionally kicking goals is super important to their game plan. He is usually left to run riot on the outside, so it's important that we shut him down.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
