Another impressive performance by Clarry. A big thing i have noticed is a change of style in his game. His outside work has improved vastly and noticed him running and receiving alot yesterday which was good to see.

Also i notice he didn't have a stat in the last qtr? I watched the game game but i don't remember seeing him? Was he rested?

    not sure if he was rested in the last, but suspect he was as when he's on the field he's where the ball is at.

    Goes alright does Clarrie - Essendon can keep Parish, I like this guy.

    He's just a very clever footballer.  A case in point was his little knock on in the first term that allowed Salem to kick a goal - it was only a small thing, but purely instinctive and showed that his footy IQ is very high.  Alongside Petracca he has the biggest ceiling of the youngsters on the list, and if he keeps working hard to improve then the sky is the limit.

    Not a flashy player but so clean and hard at the ball. If he can add some breakaway flare to his game he will become top 5 AFL material

    I just love watching him, he is so strong and clean in the contest, I haven't seen a Dees player like that in a long long time. I know Viney is hard but he's not as clean and as good with the ball as Clarry.

    Looking forward to watching him develop more again this year.... its going to be Huge

    Looks really trimmed up too. Could see him ending up like Josh Kennedy from Sydney after a couple of Pre Seasons.

    I see Tyson as more in the Kennedy mould, a real bullocking mid who can get the ball out or lock it down when need be and also get on the end of a goal from time to time.

    Oliver to me finds the cracks that Kennedy doesn't or can't, he has that so called 'x' factor. Where Kennedy would lock it down Oliver finds a way to get it moving to our advantage. If he keeps up the hard work he will be something very special.

    Very clever is an understatement, WB.  The kid is a maestro, he is like Greg Williams in traffic, the vision, the poise and the hands,  Time slows down for him even in the tightest of situations.  The only thing that will stop him from becoming a top 5 player in the comp is himself, but even after a poor start to preseason where he supposedly came back out of shape after his breath test controversy, he looks a class above out there.

    And to think he doesnt even turn 20 until July.

    Always gets his arms up high over the tackle so he can get the handball away. I love the way he does that. It draws a player in and he still gets the ball away.  I don't think it is taught - it is instinctive. Jones ( who I love ) doesn't get his arms up so when he is tackled in traffic  more often than not it ends up in a ball up.

    you obviously don't watch Kennedy closely who is the master of keeping the ball alive in tights positions and releasing it to his teams advantage. His first hal in the grand final was as good as you will ever see. Clarry will be doing well to reach that level.

    Clarry doesn't remind me of anyone, which is a good thing, as he will create his own legacy.

    I think he will reach that level. But I see the similarities also. I see similarities in their ability to hold their feet, and to get the ball out of congestion effectively. I agree with you. But also, I think Oliver has more athleticism than Kennedy. Oliver is more explosive, and he is cleaner inside of the contest - which is quite a feat because Kennedy is one of the best contested players in the league. Oliver is that clean. Hopefully he keeps trending upwards, and one day reaches the heights of Kennedy. Because as you know, there is more to just being a great contested player. There also has to be an outside game. Oliver appears to be developing an outside game now. He is ahead of Kennedy - and many others - at the same point (early) in their careers.

    One thing I have noticed is that he seems to handball the ball from anywhere, as in it isn't always from his hand. If you watch in teh clearances he will sort of gather but int he same motion hit the ball forward. There was one I watched the other day (can't remember which game, may have been a replay of the Hawks game last year) where he tucked the ball under his arm to run, was about to be tackled so handballed the ball from tucked under his arm. Of course it went straight to the player intended and off we went. This isn't a skill I have noticed before. His usually has a pretty soft touch on the ball to and just puts it to clear advantage of a team mate. Must be nice being on the end of them.

    His body and fitness looks vastly improved from the start of preseason. Although I did see him on field in the last and he didn't get a stat, so we might have to temper expectations a little on consistency because the fitness base just isn't there. 

    I also still think he needs to work on a left hand handball because his vision and movement is so good it's a shame to see him give inside out handballs. If he can use both sides of his body like Sam Mitchell then watch out.

    Hi game has definitely changed from what we have seen so far this year.  Last season he would try to immediately move the ball on with a handball when in traffic.  The last two weeks he's made space for himself more often and looked to kick with precision, when the option is on.  This variation will make him even more dangerous in the clinches.

    I'm not sure how a young man that gets done drink driving and has fitness base issues gets two JLT games ahead of Jack Watts. [censored] me, Jack must be off the pace significantly.

    Improvement and intensity. Oliver has shown both this preseason even if he didn't start in prefect condition.

    My favourite player already, alongside Tyson. But there a few guys that could join that list. Brayshaw, Hogan, Petracca. Clarry has the highest ceiling out of our mids though and I'd argue out of our players.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
