We keep picking players who are struggling and over looking players who are in good form and have proven ability.

It really couldn't be any simpler; the coaches are asking players to undertake certain roles and play to a particular structure.  

O'Mac, when he's in the team is doing what the coaches are asking him to do - so he stays.  Others, are not- so they go.

I meant give him a break !!  Fair enough .

If he had good hands you'd wait for him to fill out. If his decision-making was exceptional you'd wait for him to get stronger hands. If he was an elite endurance runner ( like his brother) you'd wait for him to improve his acceleration. If he was a good judge of the ball in flight you'd wait for his body shape to change from that of a rag-doll to that of someone who's seen the inside of a gym.

If he turns out to be a respected 150 game AFL Defender - someone at the club really is a genius

The FD knows more than we do - we just have to have faith!

No comparisons whatsoever. Nev wasn't gifted games like O. Mac. He made it the hard way, including a delisting. No-one is saying delist O. Mac, but just let him develop at Casey until he's physically capable.

If anyone is still asking why OMc, Hunt and Wagner are getting games ahead of Dunn and Grimes here is the answer:

I don't think there is going to be any club explanation on why Dunn and Grimes aren't being selected.  The above extract tells anyone who wants to really read and understand it, the explanation. 

Posters may disagree with Rawlings comments or may be baffled by selections but there is no turning back to the 'old school' defenders who have not been able to adapt, for whatever reason, to the coaches requirements.

Oh I get it LH the idea is not  to win games but to give kids games no matter how the perform.

Like you, I have a strong sense of dejavu to the Bailey years when it was: play the kids and play freewheeling, attacking football and bug.er defence.  So a fair amount of trepidation in my support of current coaches but I see the shape of our future defence. 

Nonetheless, if Salem, H and Matt Jones were fit I doubt we would have so many kids on the ground.  Hold my breath and trust!

Because he is the future and I don't think Dunn is quite getting the whole zone defence thing.

Obviously to us supporters we don't know what is happening behind closed doors, but it seems to me that he isn't fitting in with this new defensive structure which is why he isn't getting regular games.

Based on that view, Mr Rawlings (who I assume has the support of one Mr Roos with a big say on selecting the back line) may well cost us a place In the finals this year. I hope we don't to a Richmond! :-S

Would you be concerned if that cost us a possible place in the finals this year but made our prospects of becoming a regular finalist in years to come immeasurably better?
