I must say RTG that my first reaction to Biffen's vicious assault on your character was to launch a righteous retaliation on your behalf. I felt especially enraged that the most amoral person I have ever met (ie Biffen) had the temerity to label another as a sicko.

Agree that the dogs aren't the most talented, but they currently have the best mindset of any team and are unrelenting in their pressure acts. Their attack on the ball/ball carrier was impressive and they hunted in packs. Last year they mastered the opportunist goal.

The week off before the finals was a precedent. Very little was made of the fact that both teams that had the week off lost the preliminary final. There is no question that it helped the dogs who had lots of injuries.

The arrogance of other teams and Stevie J helped the dogs.

It was the first year of teams winning a qualifying final having two weeks off so it's to early to make anything of it. 

Geelong for mine were never going to beat Sydney regardless of what week it was and GWS got cocky and blew it.

Yep, we have a good chance of making the finals, this year!

Why?

- We can go into every game and believe we can win!  Not dread, not hope but believe! 

- Various positions will be up for grabs.  So generally players will need to earn their selection and play consistently well.  We now have options!

- Hunger!  I think there is a genuine will to win and succeed among the players.

These intangibles will help us to pinch a few games, against the odds...might just be enough to get us over the line.  But to be honest, if we get to finals I would like us to win one - I think our young players tiring at season's end will be the main obstacle.

As a veteran trackwatcher (well, I went to one session before Christmas), I'm ready to believe this is the year when it all begins. At the session I attended, I spoke to one of the MFC support staff who told me he had been at the club for 32 years and this was by far the most positive vibe he could remember. We all know what can happen when the vibe is right.

I think this is possibly the most overused term going around in footy atm.

Most of our youngsters who are entrenched in our best 22 will be in their third to fourth years.

The dogs won the granny from 7th and had to travel to Perth to beat West Coast, played the reigning premiers in Hawthorn at the G, beat the running machine that is GWS in Sydney and then beat arguably the most hardened and finals-tough side in the Swans to lift the cup.

The dogs have an abundance of youth in comparison to sides like Sydney, Hawthorn and even West Coast. Add in the travel and the brutality of finals football and the fact that they won the Grand Final goes completely against the "young players tiring" mantra. Sure young players tire. But with all other variables in motion, it is completely ridiculous to suggest young players tiring is the reason any team loses a game.

Anything is possible, the game is completely between the ears and is down to perfect execution of the fundamentals on gameday. Some players do it better than others under extreme fatigue. And that's the way it goes.

can we please wait until the season starts or mid season! please. 

I really find it hard to see us winning 13 games to ensure a finals birth.

Realistically, we'd have to:

Go 9-3 at the MCG (no more silly losses to Carlton, Port etc...)

Go 2-2 at Etihad (good luck beating 2 of Essendon, St Kilda and Geelong at our hell hole)

Go 2-4 interstate (bloody tough assignments against West Coast, Adelaide x2, GWS and North in Tassie where they are near dominate)

I take this as a sign the big fella approves of my vice and uses it as a means of entering my consciousness. It's a very pleasant method of communication. It's the least they could do really. I'm sure there's enough left over in the donation kitty. 

I have a slight dilemma though. My first born is due September 7, the first week of finals. If this isn't a sign we're going to make them, I don't know what is. 

Skyping of births seems the in-thing to do these days.

I have not had Bowmore's black rock. Where did acquire this drop?

I'm confident.

The younger players will improve , and guys like Lewis, Melksham and Hibberd will add to our strength .

I believe we will also have a harder edge.

Duty-free at Brisbane Airport on my way back from China. It's a nice smoky/peaty drop. Worth a try if you can find it.
