2016 Player Review - # 8 Heritier Lumumba

Featured Replies

Why is he considering to sue us when he's still apparently experiencing concussion symptoms? Surely in hindsight, he can see that the club was doing the right thing in not playing him.

Exactly how many specialists does one need to see? Strikes me as someone fishing for a specific answer to suit an agenda, and not stopping until they get the answer they want.

And if this condition is affecting him so greatly, it contradicts his claim he was able-bodied enough to play in 2016. Frankly, his accusations against the medical team are outrageously insulting.

bye bye Harry Mumbo Jumbo !!

fair dinkum what a strange bloke he is.. Thought he actually had some flair and verve on the paddock, just turns out he's another  @#%$   !!

Very disappointing. Dont let the door hit you on the way out  mate  ...   might get a headache after all !!

H has always been about H:  his beliefs, his values, the high brow B&F speech declaring himself 'The Prince' at the pies etc etc.  A bit full of himself, is H!

Hate to say it but it is a complete replica of Mitch Clarke:  Injured, takes time out, depression (from Roos' comment that H was in a 'better head space'), take a break from the club, 'can't' come back so wants a payout.

They must have the same hymn book!!

The 2016 ones to watch video on the club site, most picked Petracca, certainly no one picked themselves... except Lumumba. That went well...

There's being different, and then there's being a tool.

Probably Roos' only poor decision getting this bloke imo.

Long Live Old, I told him a few months ago that I would never doubt his word.

H, p155 off, we did the right thing and you are shying in our face.

If it's just about the possibility of not been able to trigger a 4th year it seems a bit odd, even if he played a handful more games last year, he was never going to play the majority next year with Hunt improving, Salem fit and Melksham and Hibberd coming in. The odds of him triggering that clause were always low

Wonder if he's getting advice from some ex Windy Hills legal beagles !!

oh  and btw...retire the number  8 for a year...let it purge !!   Ol Tassie must be squirming !!

In the middle of all the concussion stuff didn't Heritier miss a game or two because he was grieving the death of Mohammed Ali?

If that's the case and missing those games contributes to his inability to get a fourth season then perhaps he should join the Estate of the Late Mohammed Ali as a co-Defendant? He could even throw Donald Trump in as well because we know the President-elect is anxious to settle all litigation he's involved in before the inauguration.

Dear H,

Put your head down, train your arse off, win yourself a 2 year extension worth more than what you would have got for the past 2 years.

The end.

Well, we effectively traded Clark for him...

It could have been a bit of a vanity decision...Roos thinking he could turn him around.

Whatever, it was a pity we waisted the Clark deal.

If he was good enough he would be playing in our best 22 this year and he would be inline for an extension even if the clause wasn't triggered. We wouldn't let a best 22 player walk due to a contract stipulation.  Reality is he isn't best 22 and knows he can't earn a 4th year now that the trigger is off the table.

He signed the deal thinking he wouldn't decline so quickly and we wouldn't improve as a team do quickly. Gamble didn't pay off for him.

irony

Age article makes no sense.

How can he sue us for preventing him from triggering a 4th year on his  contract while at the same time sueing us for not taking care with management of concussion?

Clearly he has played his last game. Let's pay him out before the draft to free up another spot for a late pick ( or to elevate Mitch White - and create a rookie spot)

Hate to say it - but looks like Buckley got it right when he pushed him out the door. High maintenance player plus ...

He's certainly confused The Age!

Edited by hoopla

The gist is the article is that he's claiming the club kept him on the sidelines longer than necessary for his concussions, which prevented him from playing enough games to trigger the fourth year on his contract.  Next year would be his third year, but he is now in a position where he can't play enough games to reach the trigger.

Further muddying his rather strange claim is the indication that he is going to retire, meaning that he wouldn't be in a position to claim his fourth year anyway.  I guess he could claim that he wouldn't be retiring if that extra year was still available?

So, we have a number of players, including a former Demon, who are involved in legal action against the AFL because they weren't protected from head injuries.  We now have a player who wants to sue his club because he thinks that their efforts to prevent him suffering long-term brain injury were excessive and have harmed him financially.

I really hope he winds up with nothing.

WJ

Heretier was concussed in round 6 April 30, Mohammed Ali died in June, there was a presser as I remember it that said he was coming to terms with Ali's passing then a club Presser said he was away from the club taking a break and they hoped he would be back toward the end of the season to resume training. I read that as code for he has taken off, not sure what he is doing but we hope he gives us a phone call later on.

I remember joking that he had headed off to the Rio Olympics so really I don't think he has been at the club too often since July last year.

The whole issue is clouded, no one ever saw him get concussed but now the club has been too conservative in its approach and not allowed him to play? Hmmm I reckon he had taken off in late June just a month or two after his first concussion. But we have also held him back from playing!

The only thing certain is that is over but can we resolve prior to the 30 November deadline.

If anyone runs to support this recalcitrant on this forum I will seriously 'throw up!

The whole situation has been fishy for a long time. From memory Chanel 7 had him retiring/walking out which was denied by the club at the time. The following game he got a mystery concussion and never played again.

The Prince should go to the States and talk with some retired NFL Players who have all taken one too many head knocks.

He should be thankfull the MFC were diligent.

Sadly I think I got this one right. Said there was something fishy going on with the media asking about H's return date during the trade period and then even more so on Monday when he didn't turn up.

He doesn't seem at all interested in fighting for his spot and/or helping the next wave through at Casey.

So it's time Mahoney straps on his big boy pants and sorts this mess out in a professional but powerful manner. I've got no doubt Goodwin and PJ will support him.

I think that is what you are seeing.

What a sad outcome. There was a 'something fish'y odor about this from the start. How ironic we swapped him for Clark. I recall that it flashed through my tiny mind when Dawes was in the Casey trenches in his Demon tracksuit encouraging and coaching the Casey players as they interchanged in the Box Hill game late in the year. I wondered why Lumumba wasn't there as well.

Ever since the Tim Watson interview when this [censored] said he was struggling to overcome his grief at the passing of Mohammed Ali I have wanted him delisted and deported. Collingwood certainly knew what a whack job they were off loading!!!

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
