I know it's covered in the delisting thread but I think it does Jack Grimes a disservice to be bundled up as just another delisted player.

I actually think it's poor form....Jack deserves his own thread, his own heading.

Jack might not have been a champion but he has been a champion bloke who gave his all for the Melbourne Football Club.

As a kid living the dream, a Melbourne supporter drafted by the club that he followed. Unfortunately for Jack he landed at a club in transition to total disarray.

From early in his career I can remember the club putting him up for post match radio interviews, a young well spoken kid having to front the media after another dismal on ground performance.

Injury plagued his career as did a club with no real development in place to help a young kid hone his raw talent.

Making him Captain capped it all off. Jack was a leader from a young age but unfortunately he wasn't allowed to develop his football, he had to front for a club in free fall.

Would he have been a better player if he was at another club, well run with good leadership and senior players to learn from? that's the thing we will never know.

What we do know is Jack never complained and just fronted up time and again, disappointment after disappointment.

I don't know that I could have done what Jack did this year, he kept fronting up week after week giving his absolute best for Casey in the hope of getting promoted to the senior team. His papers seemed to be marked but shear weight of numbers got him a game mid season, one good game followed by a bad one and he was back at Casey.

So thanks Jack, I hope you get another shot at it but if you don't I have no doubt you will be a success in whatever path you chose.

 

If you think about players who bleed red and blue and get everything out of themselves through hard work and commitment, Jack is a perfect example, Captain at 21 because of the example he set. 

I truely hope he gets another crack at AFL level and i think he will, 

i'll always remember in 2012 just after we were beaten by Essendon by 150 points or whatever it was, i went along to an open training and every Melbourne player looked flat as a tack besides Grimes and he was so vocal and so passionate and just firing everyone up

He did what a a lot of players never do He gave it everything even when saddled with a poor admin and coach.

If it was one player i wished that had tasted the success against the Collingwood and Hawthorn this year it would be Grimes. Unfair he missed out but unfortunately thats football and as ProDee said he just simply couldn't adjust to the speed of the game.

I trully hope he does find another AFL club. A Brisbane or Gold Coast could usd his leadership and voice on field. 

A coaching and development role awaits him in the future.

The way Jack Grimes has been treated over the past two years by the club he loves is an absolute disgrace.

I am bitterly disappointed that he won't be at the club next year and at how his exit has been handled.

Rjay's post says it far better than I can, but he has been a credit to himself and his club throughout what has largely been a dire period for all involved.

For all the good things that Paul Roos has done for the MFC, there is no question in my mind that he absolutely shattered the confidence of those who weren't amongst his chosen few. Jack is clearly one of those, and his ability to front up and play well at Casey each week under those circumstances is admirable.

I desperately hope he gets another chance with a coach who can give him some love and prove the knockers wrong.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about how Jack's teammates would pay out on him for all the extra rehab work he did to get fit or recover from injury.

Not only did it show how professional and committed he was, but it also showed are unprofessional the rest of the club once was.

Great post. Sums up how I feel about him and Trengove. MFC under Neeld were career killers.  

I do believe that's Grimes was given every chance under the new administration, but either he was to damaged by the past or the changing pace of the game was the last straw for him. 

While many might disagree Trengove deserves the same chance and one more season will not affect list management for 2017. 

Thanks Jack, I hope you will still follow the Dee's and you have a very successful life in whatever the future holds for you.

Whilst he'd be disappointed right now, he should also be very proud that he's played 100 AFL games for the club he grew up supporting and ultimately Captained.

I really do hope he gets another opportunity elsewhere.

Gave his all and was intensely loyal. Can't do better than that.

Grimes will be remembered very fondly by this club.

I hope the club puts together a really nice package about Grimes on the website at an appropriate time - he absolutely deserves it.

 

Surely he will get picked up by Gold Coast or Brisbane. Would be very serviceable off the half back flank for those sides, as well as the professionalism and leadership he could bring to the young group.

In a twisted way, and going back to business, it's nice that our list/club is headed in the direction where our a player like Jack just isn't up to the standard we are at. 
 

I will always remember Grimes for the desperate punch from behind he did in the dying seconds to get us up over Adelaide in Adelaide. Would be the best win he played in and wouldn't have happened without him.

The simpletons will say that the early captaincy did this.  The rest will say he was a solid in many aspects.  Unlike the 80's though, in the modern game, you need at least one great element to your game.  I doubt Jack has one.  Maybe courage, maybe awareness?

 

Hope he gets a gig at another club, obviously the tigs.....and prove many wrong.

That's an interesting point. However, I think what is more likely is that players now can't have one grossly weak element. 

It's just sad that such a promising start to his career has come to this end.

Really hoping he gets another chance. He's still capable and his professionalism off the field can't be questioned. My admiration for him went up a notch this season.

Definitely thread worthy.

Nobody tried harder than Jack to lift the club out of our massive hole, often to his own detriment such as taking on the captaincy.

Ultimately he fell short, but I would love to see him get another chance with another club. Hopefully even a game at the G against the Dees, where he could get a nice round of applause ala James McDonald.

How should of it been handled?

Please elaborate on his treatment over the last two years being a disgrace. 

Yes the club handled him poorly early in his career, but the last two years?

In relation to the above post I think that's unfair on the club.  Grimes played 18 games in 2014 (Roos first year) and another 12 lasy year, so it's not as though he wasn't given a chance to cement a spot in that time.  He played more games (given more chances) then any of Matt Jones, Terlich, Bail & Michie over that period, and rightly so .  So I don't see what's a disgrace?

Will always have a soft spot for Grimey however.  As others have said better then I have, he gave it his all and really did bleed for the club.  Would love to see him end up at another club next year and get some success.  In fact already heard whispers that Geelong maybe interested.

Best of luck Jack, and I hope when your career is over, we see you in the stands at the G watching the mighty Dees!
