I've said before - stay away.

That he managed to get back on the field and play some games was a minor miracle.
His body is cooked, don't waste your time.

Reported not long ago on twitter by AFL trade Whispers that we're interested.

Was a very good talent, who has had no luck with injuries.  Could be worth a punt if medicos satisfied.

The Dees have expressed interest in throwing injury-plagued Cat Nathan Vardy a lifeline. Still a chance Vardy could be delisted #AFLTrades

Do the deal now dees, pick 98.

He's got huge talent and a fully fit Vardy would compliment the side very well.

I'm concerned about his body though and wonder if Tom Campbell would be a better option?

We wouldn't be giving up much for him at all....

a big yes from me. Body is as cooked as Jaegar O'Meara - it's about getting it right and a bit of luck.

Got through 17 games this year, but only 1 at AFL level.

Missed 4 games this year with an ankle. Missed a season and a half with an ACL up until late 2015 but played well in a couple of games late that year.

Not sure either of those injuries will be long term though. The long term one was his hip.

If the hip is fine then there's still the chance that he keeps getting injured based on just being one of those guys/based on one injury leading in to another, but as long as his hip is fine then I'd have no problem giving him a shot.

Perfect fit. I hope the AFL Trade Whisperer is on the money. Vardy has upside, he is worth the punt. I think he is exactly what we need. Kid can play. Wouldn't come at too high of a price, might have to pay slight overs, but nothing drastic.

That's a lot of injuries to carry that realistically never fully heal. He's never going to be the player he could've been, which suck for the guy. But at age 25 and after Geelong have stuck by Daniel Menzel and Josh Cowan and seen returns to then be happy to cut their losses, I'd be wary.

Wow.

Walk Away....

Spencer has played 36 in 9 seasons and kicked 6 goals. Vardy is averaging a goal a game. Exactly the type we need and won't cost anything other than a spot on our list.

Whilst I share the worries about his fitness, I worked at Geelong between 2012-14 and watched him dominate both training and VFL games. He also had a couple of standout AFL games. If his body can stand up he has massive upside and plays a position where we have a hole in our list.

What would he realistically cost?

Could get him as a DFA or if Geelong know we are interested might trade for a pick in the 60's. Trading would be preferable as he can start training with us earlier to help improve the success of getting his body right. I say get him!

I've never seen him play and know nothing about him. Many posters are saying he has talent, any more info? Is he the FWD/Ruck option we'd like?

He is. Injuries over the years are a worry though.

Plenty of talent, but as I've said in other threads, his body is a huge red flag for me.

If we got him as a DFA then I could stomach it, but anything more is no go for me.

Roll the dice.

We've been rolling it with Max King.

Taking an untried 18 y.o. ruck through the draft would be an even bigger roll of the dice.

For what it would cost us, surely worth the punt.

Showed so much talent early days. So much.

I'm on the fence, I think his body is no good, but I'm no doctor and he could be no worse than the other ruckmen we have that aren't named Max Gawn.

I salivate at the idea of getting him cheap and him reaching his potential.

But reality is that footy is a harsh business. His body hasn't held up for the past 7 seasons, what reasons do we have to think 2017 is going to be any different?

Clearly there was a fair amount of luck to the short injury list that we had for pretty much all year but, let's for a moment consider the medical and sports science blokes we have on board have the skill and knowledge to get him right.

Definitely worth the punt.

Believe me, the doctors down at Geelong are of the opinion that his body is done. They are surprised he managed to get back out on the park & it's only a matter of time before he breaks down again unfortunately.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
