I'm enjoying developments myself.

Dons on the rack to play ball and trade Hibberd for 2017 2nd Round, Hawks sweating over  2nd B&F player wanting to defect to us, and now Prestia deal with Tigers stalling...

Seems perfectly poised as we turn for the run home.

Could also be any one of the majority of 3rd round picks who never have any kind of AFL career to speak of... The draft is speculative, and even more so as the picks get later.

As for getting one year out of "a player", that player has 4 premierships, 5 best and fairests including this year, has captained the club and could very well get as many as 3 more years out of his body. Not saying he's worth a lot, but you weigh up pick 88 against the player you would have got with it (if you even used that pick) and it's clearly a massive win for the Eagles who are in their "premiership window".

Yes, there is a chance a pick will amount to nothing, I just raised those players because there's a risk the pick will amount to a good player. If the worst scenario eventuated, they'd be giving a 10 year player, and taking on three years of salary cap burden (assumption from me but I think a safe one) for a single year flag shot boost, which is also no guarantee anyway. These are all considerable risks to take on.

Hawthorn also go in to the negotiations in an inherently desperate position. They wouldn't be trading their reigning B&F, Brownlow medal winning star with only a year to go on his contract unless it was of the utmost urgency. That doesn't give them a great deal of leverage.

Bad looks asking the loyal servants of your club to look elsewhere or take pay cuts so they can overpay Tom Mitchell and Offer O'meara who hasn't played in 2 years big dollars.

wheels are definitely falling off.

Interesting I heard a guy on the radio yesterday saying it is starting to look like the MFC  after the 64 Premiership.

From my now fading memory there are some similarities.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next year or two.

His disposal is poor and he isn't overly quick, on top of the concerns over his attitude. The only players we have considered that weren't quick were known leaders, Rockliff is not that.

The footy dept are correct in not chasing him. Not surprising at all.

We can agree to disagree on Rockliff. I think a lot of his problems were that he was a poor Captain. He could be just a player with us. Anyway it appears it won't happen.

You are not quite correct, when you say we have only considered quick players or leaders.

Ok Mr Inside Info (lol)... Aside from Hibberd (who I didn't include as it was already known) and Lewis, who have we actively chased?

Not at all, I'd be stoked if I were a West Coast fan. Business decisions are always about risk though so that's where I'd be coming from if I were the West Coast list manager; whether or not I was front loading the risk too much.

I love that we are giving that Essendrug scum Adrian Dodo a taste of his own medicine.

Better make sure we shred the paperwork if that's the case...

Viney has won a Bluey already and missed out on another one by 1 point. At 22. That's 2 pretty consistent seasons if you ask me.

Tyson takes half a season to find form.

Guys, get real. BOTH are critical for our eventual flag. Why argue at the margins. We would all be mortified if either left, and both would be targeted by all clubs if they became available.

Celebrate what we have....

I am not Mr Inside info.  I know people on here hate it, if you allude to something and don't disclose it.

You obviously know more than me though, as you said " The only players we have considered that weren't quick were known leaders, Rockliff is not that. "

So who are the players you are talking about, that we have considered, that were quick or if not, known leaders, excluding Hibberd and Lewis? LOL

PS. Do I need to put the LOL in brackets?

Asked you first... (Yes, I did notice you didn't actually answer the question)

Second rounder for Lewis.

Third rounder for Hibberd.

2017 First rounder for Prestia

I will never stop laughing if Prestia does a backflip and nominates another club. Such a thing could only happen to Richmond.

We should keep talking to him. You just never know. We obviously have a soft spot in his heart and money in the cap.

Well I know the factual ones of Hibberd and Lewis, and used my amazing powers of deduction to ascertain that we would chase a speedy player given it's our biggest need.

Nice to finally know your constant ego-inflating over having inside info is all trash though.

"You are not quite correct, when you say we have only considered quick players or leaders."

"Who then?"

"I don't know"

Top shelf.

The fact that someone like Lewis would approach us is a huge step forward.we all wish to be a preferred destination for elite players out of contract. Lewis demonstrates that. We should all celebrate.

Don't care if this isn't real. This is generating so much laughter and joy in my day at the moment.

Contracted legend of the club and current best and fairest gone for pick 88.

Just doesn't seem right and the way Hawks/Eagles have colluded is a little fishy.

Contract backended in coaching years to avoid player salary cap?

I made this point a few weeks back. If true it is an enormous loophole...... why limit it to coaching.... the job could be anything

Surely you cannot commit to a job after football and it is outside the salary cap.

For example we want to get Garland out of our salary cap so we offer him his existing salary plus a one year sweetener to retire from the MFC list and be an "on field mentor" at Casey. It cannot be that easy.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
