Rode a Tiger home from Melbourne yesterday having had time to have a beer in celebration of Nathalia beating Finley in the grannie. Some things are always a joy. Walked into my rainforest this morning to have a quiet cheroot and there snoozing beneath my giant red cedar was the man yes Jason Taylor or at least a hazy apparition so I sat beside him and passed him my burning ember and he nodded with his usual good grace. Tell me JT where is it up to and where is it gonna end. Old man wolf he said its starting to hot up with Hibberd already here and two more almost snagged and then we have three youngies to get in the draft. I went to say wow but my voice was sitting on the smoke climbing through the tall branches above me. That's six we have to axe I might have mumbled or perhaps they were his words in my headspace and he was counting them on his fingers and his thumb was Dunny off to Brissy he said and his pinky was Grimesy' gone to the Cats and Garland's been courted by the Suns and then we've said goodbye to Terls Newton and Pedo and we are working with the Suns to improve this years picks by trading next years first round pick. I was choking on my smoke but mumbled who are the other 5 apart from Hibbo don't we need a forward cum ruck and a key back and an outside mid and JT just smiled and said wolfman you've been too long in the wasteland no wolf what we need is the 5 best footballers we can get it doesn't matter how big and what position they just need to be skilled goers and team players Goody will take care of the rest. And he began floating away and I croaked after his shadow and what about Hogan and I'm sure the echo was we don't care we don't care....

Connors is a manager he has his own interests at heart and then the players, what he said was drovers dog stuff, nothing new

Not particularly talking about what he said the other night but more his actions over time.

...and yes there is no interest like self interest particularly where managers are concerned. The good ones tend to look at the longer term, building relationships etc. the rogues are in it for the quick kill, the thrill of the deal.

From memory, Connors dislikes both Adrian Anderson and the Bombers, so he's alright with me...

Yup, manages Paddy Ryder i believe and it's fair to say the Bombers made that as difficult as possible for all involved by demanding Wines or Wingard in a trade haha

While I suspiciously haven't logged into this site since August 24 my Brother has never logged in, although he has been an almost daily reader since 2003.

He is a bit of a luddite, but I'm sure he'd manage to navigate the sign up process.

Truthfully, he has thought about joining over the past 13 years, but assures me he'd be banned in no time.

It's fair to say he doesn't have a high opinion of some posters.

Thanks for sharing ProDee. Connors has managed Watts over the journey and has seen both Jack's, and the club's evolution through some pretty difficult times.

If he didn't believe we were much improved, not only would Jack have departed, but Connors would have probably pushed Hibberd toward staying put at Bomberland. Managers have self interest, but chief amongst that is knowing clubs inside and out. It allows them to provide the best possible info for their clients. If Connors thinks we're on the up, it's worth noting, because that view would likely be shared within the industry  (Stride management included).

Continuing in the absurd direction: If you never stop using your future 1st and 2nd round pick, won't you always be ahead? I mean, if the universe was going to cease to exist in 2018, it might make sense to use next years first round pick on a trade this year and go for the premiership next year. ;) Go out with a big bang

That's why there's rules to stop teams doing that. ie - They have to use 2 in any 4 year cycle I believe.

Well that's the long term fix, but we'd still be ahead on trading next years first round, if the universe implodes in 2018.

We can win the premiership next year. Can we all repeat that as a mantra? It wouldn't hurt to believe.

Eventually, one day someone will finish ahead. It might not be 2018, but once Trump is president clubs might be reluctant to accept future picks in a trade.

Not really related to this years off season but Geez the Giants should have taken the offer from Freo for McCarthey last year, they would have netted pick 14 and pick 3 out of it for a guy who might get them a 3rd rounder just a year later.

Think they'll be getting more than a 3rd rounder for him, plus you can't really blame them for playing hardball with a recently re-contracted player.

Still....

Agree to an extent. However they made a powerful statement. To any other young gun who wants out, to the rest of the team and the other clubs. They di not blink. Easier to do with the truck load of talent they have, but still. Ill bey he regrets hia decision now

Thats what we wanted to hear.  Nothing worse than a boring trade period for the Demons.  This is Goodwins team now, and he will hopefully leave no stone unturned in bringing talent into the club.

As long as he doesn't get into the habit of leaving no turn unstoned!

Schoenmakers had a pretty bright future once upon a time. Now he is a genuine spud.

He's a quality midfielder (as shown after they stopped playing him in the wrong position this season), has plenty of experience at the pointy end of the season and his age fits into a bracket where we are sorely lacking. I'd love to have him at Melbourne.

Django, I fear he was a quality midfielder but has now lost a step in pace. Not for mine.

Denom is a nutter. De Goey is contracted until the end of 2018 and Collingwood need to keep all the young talent they have.

De Goey is highly rated internally too, I hear. So not sure where that's coming from.

IMO contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on anymore.

Collingwood have officially started top up mode, Richmond style.

Buckley will run that club into the ground before he goes, killing any hope of them achieving premiership success on the way out.

Just give him two more years at the club and they'll be in Richmond-like strife. Particularly if the likes of Mayne are being offered 4 years and Wells 3 years.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
