Reminds me much of the Dean Kent story.

You don't nominate each player because you are definitely going to take them but in case you decide to take them. (it's not as guaranteed as father some). e.g Richmond and essendon nominated 6 players each, they can't actually take all of them. Melbourne must have now decided they're interested in other priorities, e.g ruckman.

or they might just think he's no chance not to get snapped up by other clubs in the national and rookie drafts, therefore we won't get a free pass

If this was the case, you think you'd just leave it and see. Rather than un-nominate him

The kid is worth trying,I actually don't care much about u tube clip regarding how a player perform. As long as the kid has heart and is determined.

WOW.  That would be disappointing.  We can have 3 B rookies.  We have Smith and Maynard.  So unless we have someone else in mind for the 3rd spot I see little risk in taking Allsop, especially as we have already nominated him.  I can't imagine mfc going back on that without a very good reason.  How confident are you in the source that mfc may waiver?

Honestly, not very accurate. The kid is from down around my area on the mornington peninsula so last week I heard he was told he was not gonna be picked by melbourne but on the weekend I was out with someone from around his neck of the woods (Red Hill I think it is) and they said he was a very good chance to be taken by Melbourne as high as 85%. In fairness though the bloke was a fair few beeers down so im not too sure how accurate any of whats been said is. It seems like a bit of a wait and see game until the category B nominations are placed just after the draft but I have heard that he has talked to a fair few other clubs so he may possibly not even be avaliable for us by then.

Ps this is all information i've heard off the grapevine so it may have been contorted partially or made up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see

I am sure of one thing though the boy is an excellent young lad and if he isnt picked up by melbourne or other clubs it will be directly due to club needs or being seen not to be upto afl level because there is no disciplinary issues with the kid. When he was just 15 or 16 he helped out my sons football team giving up his time and coaching the younger boys so I can tell you he is an excellent young lad with a good head on him. His also helped out with my youngest daughters basketball team.

As we have just picked a ready made small forward who looks like he will be able to fill the void down in our forward line, would i be right in thinking there is no longer any need to take daniel alsop as a multicultural categry b rookie if he is not picked up in the rookie draft monday?

Ironically, we took Dion Johnstone who could have become the Western Bulldogs' Category B player.

It seems to me that having taken Johnstone, there's less likelihood that Allsop will be taken,

Agree Johnstone takes the small pressure forward development opportunity.

Surely there are other issues behind it other than a simple change of mind. I trust the current Footy team to make the correct decision, although I would be annoyed if the young fella has been told we will take him ala Rory Sloane, then simply decided on someone else without good reason.

B class rookies are not part of the rookie draft, we can draft B class rookies whenever we want, a la Maynard

If he is still there after draft, we can take him

I wonder if the change from 2 more Cat A rookies to 3 more relegated the plans to take another cat B. Or if securing DJ meant Allsop was unlikely.

Would be nice to get the kid out to Casey maybe. Could be a nice way to further the Indigenous/Multicultural academy by linking in the players who don't make it with Casey and seeing if they can get a 2nd chance that way.

With Frankston not playing VFL the Dragons are looking for homes for 15 of their boys, including Allsop. I wonder if he will end up playing with Casey regardless?

As we picked up a small forward in the draft and Cat B rookies can be picked up at any time, perhaps the club have kept one spot available to capitalise on any future opportunities as they arise

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
