Watts the matter

Wouldn't say no, have seen him play some good games and genuinely excites BL fans, kicked 33 goals in 2014.

You could argue development stagnated due to circumstance of being at a troubled club. Change of scenery, swap for Grimes could work for both.

He stagnated because he wasn't willing to put in the work defensively, why do you think he couldn't crack a game with Brisbane this year

Tbh I don't think anyone at Brisbane was willing to work defensively this year. If Watts can be shown the way, good chance Green can..

Green will nominate for the PSD. Speedy outside mid/small forward type.

Wouldn't be best 22 for us IMO, but at 24 would suit our age bracket and could be handy depth. Plus, coming off injury and out of Brisbane, who knows? Might turn it around.

Thoughts?

I've always liked Green as a player and certainly would not be averse to having him at the club (although not sure how we'd slot him in). He, Rich and Zorko are lions players I've always enjoyed watching go round and wished we'd had on our list.

Why wouldn't he nominate for the main draft? If he's a delisted free agent, he could just walk to whichever club may be interested in him for the PSD.

I could be wrong but I think he's just out of contract rather than a delisted free agent.

He does absolutely nothing for me.  Couldn't cement a spot in the worst side in the comp.  We need to set our aim higher.

That was partly through injury and them having a few small outside types though. I think he has potential to be handy depth. Let's remember we can't have 40 players that are "best 22". We'd get him for free as well.

Averaged 13 touches, 3 tackles and a goal this year in the worst side in the comp. For me, he's worth a shot more (given our needs) than Newton and Michie, and is a step up from Terlich and Grimes in the same way.

I'm not saying I'm dead set on him, but needs v cost I would think it's worth a thought.

Ideally our depth should be players who we expect to come on and be in our best 22. We shouldn't just take nqr's for depth, for depths sake.

Nothing against Josh Green I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement call.

Fair enough, I might be just too keen for more speed given what our trade period looks like.

He's not a step up at all.  Struggles to find the footy and doesn't kick a heap of goals.  I'd rather take a punt on a kid than put this bloke on our list.  Sorry mate, just the way I see it.

Did he sign a contract at the Lions?  This article says he was keen to sign on, but there is no indication as to whether it was completed:

The seasons where he played most or all games he was averaging around 27 goals which is not too shabby... he only played 11 games this year because of injury, so that plus the fact that the contract was never signed/withdrawn (if that is the case), would explain his form slump statistically.

As far as our needs go I consider him a step up. Michie is a vanilla plodder and Newton is slow and can't crack a game. I'd rather take a punt on a quick 24 year old given how the rest of our list looks. Given the roles Michie and Newton play and our depth in those roles, I can't see either of them playing at all in 2017.

He's definitely out of contract. Carlton have shown some interest apparently, but he hasn't attracted enough interest for Brisbane to get something back for him.

I believe we do need another small zippy forward. He's the right age, can kick a goal and provide some pressure, but I'm not convinced we should look at him all the same. I'd rather hold off until a slightly better option is available.

He'd be behind Garlett, Kent, Kennedy and Harmes and probably on par with JHK. I think we're pretty right for players like him.

I guess we're I'm coming from is that he played all of his junior footy as an outside mid, and wondering if we could try him as that?

Again as an outside mid he's behind a lot of guys, plus some of the small fwds I listed would move into that spot before he would as well. Don't get me wrong, he's not a terrible player and 12 months ago we could have considered him but right now we're stacked for guys who play a similar role he would and nearly all of them are in front of him.

But who? What quick outside mids do we have? I'm not suggesting this guy as regular 22, but I just can't see we have a lot of midfield speed.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
