Nominations for the new Richmond Board

Featured Replies

It's a tough time for our Richmond friends. Lets help them out with a few nominations for their new board.

My nominations are

- The toothless pensioner who holds up the 'TIGER TOUGH ' sign in the cheer squad.

- The drunken bum from the front bar of the 'Spread Eagle Hotel' ( any one of them)

- The Richmond chapter president of the ' Under the bridge wine appreciation society '

- Dustin Martins chopsticks

- The guy who signed off on Dimmas contract extension

- Harambe

How about the guy who spewed all over himself during the Sydney game?

The Tigers are almost imploding and to think they are going to be even worse on field next season is such a glorious thing.

Let's play AFL Board Challenge Bingo.

Take a drink every time one of challengers utters one of these phrases:

  • empower the members
  • worlds best practice
  • too long complacent
  • immediately search for best available coach (two drinks if it's an "exhaustive" search)
  • setting standards throughout the club from top to bottom
  • rightful place at the top of the ladder
  • legacy of Tommy Hafey
  • core business of football

"Not settling for mediocrity" is so 20th century, I guess.

Actually, I think some of our own past Board members would be suitable for RFC. We also have a past CEO that is available.

Seriously, I have always wondered what Board's do and what they contribute. Do they make any real difference? I suspect not.

Could Paul Roos and his coaching staff and Peter Jackson and his admin team have run the club this year without a Board. In times past, did the Board (other than when sacking coaches) make any real difference? They provide a sounding board and allow the CEO in particular to get approval for any initiatives. Yes, they oversee the running of the club and provide a back stop in the case of a corrupt or incompetent CEO but that's about it.

It seems you can have a dysfunctional board or one of puppets or "yes" men or women. Naturally you need a wise and energetic President, good Coach and coaching staff, and great players but you do wonder what Boards bring to the mix. I think that some rank and file supporters on the Board would contribute as much as anyone.

It just makes me smile, Sucked in Richmond I hope they are down the bottom for as long as we were.

Bwahahahahahahaha!

This meme will not die. I love it.

Toby Mitchell is experienced at running a powerful club and he has proved capable of taking a hit for the team.

Would be the perfect choice as President .

" Hiscock says that the challengers would like Damien Hardwick to stay on as coach, but changes must be made going forward. "

So even when they get their [censored] together to oust the board, they're still delusional enough to want to keep Spudwick?

I can only imagine it's for cost reasons. Whoever approved that contract extension needs to get the arse.

Disagree, very bad Karma to make comments like this. Be careful what you wish for. Coming from decades of despair, I feel sorry for the true Tiger supporters. I don't know why people should get such pleasure out of the miseries of others. They are a true blue footy club with a rich history and culture and real supporters unlike many of the franchised or new clubs that have been created out of the ether. Go Tiges.

Hardwick must be on a fortune. God only knows why....

I can only assume the entire board saw we were getting our act together and felt they needed to fill the hole of 'league basket case'.

They are even better at it than we are so i am happy to pass the baton!!

Damien Hardwick should be renamed Damned Hardttoflick.

Loved the byline: "We're 35 years into a 5 year plan".

I commend Richmond on the last few years of peace and harmony, where they managed to win a grand total of zero finals.

Technically, I think the fourth dot point should say, "Damien Hardwick has our unanimous support but we would not be serving our members if we didn't immediately commence a search for the best available coach should Damien wish to move on"

It's interesting how my tastes in football have changed. I used to think the best part of the footy season was the trade and draft periods. But now we've improved, I think the best period is anything involving Richmond's pain.

You're good at this, DVC. Maybe you should challenge the RFC board!

Quite telling - a table from the Rich Board challengers on botched recruiting:

The team.

On the bench are: Heppell, T. Mitchell, Ziebell, J. Lewis.  Emergencies: Gunston, Monfries, Shiels.

Dr Hiscock:  "Why did the club even contemplate a road to nowhere recruiting strategy?"

I guess that is easy to say with hindsight but it is hard to understand how they missed all those players.

Woeful recruiting!!!

Maybe Neil Balme can bring Derek Hine with him from the Pies.
